Night Elf
Isn't this a classic? My library does not have a print copy. It has an abridged children's version in a series called Classic Starts. The only other copies are an eBook and an audio cd. I'm stunned. At least I was able to get it free on my Kindle.
LaxMom
Yeah. I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and they didn't have a copy of Watership Down. (They'd be happy to order it for me, though. :D)
Jean in Newcastle
Yes. It is a classic by Jules Verne. Ds14 has read all of them. I am :svengo:
Sparkle
Sheesh. Yes, it is a classic, in fact I am reading it to dd right now. Our library can be like that too.
YLVD
Yes! DD and I are reading that one now. She's reading to me and we are discussing it. I got it at our local library.
LibraryLover
ILL? Our closest library is small and can't buy lots of new, but they can get us anything. Old and mildew-scented books are the worst. I can't read them in bed...they have cooties. :( I hope you can find it within your system. It would be sad if you can't. :( So many deep cuts to library systems. It's terrible. Edited July 23, 2011 by LibraryLover
Night Elf
No ILL? Our closest library is small and can't buy lots of new, but they can get us anything. It would be sad if you can't. :( So many deep cuts to library systems. It's terrible. Yeah, they offer ILL services but I hate to go to all that hassle. I haven't encountered friendly staff so if the library doesn't have something I need, I head to Amazon. My library is really pushing eBooks. I just discovered a feature they offer, a link to Tumble Readables, an online read-along book collection for kids. I think it looks cool, but I hope that doesn't become the norm. I just miss the days of spending a few hours at the library. Now, it seems like they are really encouraging people to do everyone online. I wish I had room in my house for books. I love my Kindle, but that doesn't mean I want all of my books to be electronic.
Boxing Hare
I just wanted to suggest Around the World in 100 days for your dc after they read the original. Both of mine really liked it. It's not a classic, so maybe your library will have it.
LibraryLover
I can do ILL searches and holds on the computer. I don't know if all libraries allow this, but I only have to pick up & check out. Does your card have a bar code? If so, there is probably a network website for your system.
