kalanamak
My son didn't like manipulatives. He much prefers doing things in his head. We are doing well with SM.
LaxMom
Mammoth Math is working well for our guys. Bonus: it's cheap. They're 6, almost 7. We are using MEP with our daughter. She's 10. Edited July 23, 2011 by MyCrazyHouse
ChristusG
DD7 is doing well with Abeka Math. Colorful worksheet pages, no manipulatives. She just likes her math straight and to the point.
EKS
You don't need manipulatives to use Singapore.
Sparkle
Some ideas: My oldest ds did well with Mastering Mathematics, which teaches one skill at a time, has a very simple black and white layout and no distracting pictures. Second ds did well with Strayer-Upton's Practical Arithmetics, which are hardbound, reusable books that you need to copy the problems from. Old-fashioned, but simple and straightforward to use. DD is happily using MCP (Modern Curriculum Press) math. It's a little more cluttered than the other two, but still fairly simple layout, nothing fancy, and easy to use. I guess I should mention that Mastering Mathematics is a Christian program, if that makes a difference to you one way or the other.
