Dry Erase Crayons

I wanted some opinions before I bought them. My ds 6 is a lefty, so the markers are difficult to use. I was hoping that the crayons wouldn't smear as he was writing. Has anyone tried these? Do they erase easily? (as in he can do it himself)

They don't erase too easily in my opinion, but I have a 4 year-old who likes to press down hard and color large areas. Maybe with a lighter touch...

We tried them and my kids found them very waxy and difficult to erase. I liked the idea of them, but the reality didn't live up to my expectations.

I too was curious. I saw these in the school supply aisle and immediately thought they'd be perfect for my totboy when he starts his little scribble school.

I bought some at toysrus on their crayola sale--2 boxes for 2.79. Figure it was worth a try at that price! I actually think they are awesome--however, dd3's hands do get dirty and need to be washed after using them.

That's exactly what we use for my lefty!! NO erasing his work as we go! :) You have to actually put some "elbow grease" into erasing the crayons (though they are not hard, they just won't accidentally erase ~ which is what I'm after!!! ;) We love them!!!

They could get on hands or in nails if the child digs into them. You do have to press down to erase. Both my kids can erase without problem though it's not as easy as markers. I actually like they don't smear/erase easily so that hasn't been a problem here. I like them because they have no nasty chemicals/fumes at a relatively cheap price. We use the crayons instead of markers now and, in fact, I threw the markers away after a while.

We LOVE them. Normally I don't splurge on non-necessity things like this, but I threw caution to the wind and now... we're not using the markers at all anymore. The colors are bold, they don't smear easily (you can smear them, but it takes some effort) and while it's a little harder to wipe off, I find that a bonus. We don't lose parts of what we're working on because someone accidently touches the board ;)

I use regular crayons for our daily checklist. They come of easily w/ baby wipes.

I love the Crayola brand! I bought a less expensive brand and they were nearly impossible to erase. The Crayolas worked much better. I like that there is no odor or "dust".

Thanks for the reviews! I bought them and think that they are perfect for a lefty. It still smears a tiny bit, but it's much better than when he writes with markers. He can erase them with the eraser mitt by himself. I got the crayola brand. $4 for 8 crayons - yikes!! But I was too impatient to wait for a sale.

They erase pretty easily with a damp cloth.

We enjoyed them. Unfortunately I need to buy more because I left them in the backseat of the car on a trip to Arizona. Luckily, most of the mess was contained within a backpack.:tongue_smilie:

You're lucky - I just priced them today and they are $7 in Aus :001_huh: but I want to get some anyway for my lefty DD to use.

We use them here and at work. They are not dry erase though no matter what the label says. We use damp rags to wipe the board after use because they do not erase easily. They do not smudge easily either which is a bonus for those of us with lefties.

Sounds like a case for wet-erase markers!

 

We use these; no smears, no smudges, and no problems erasing with just a spit's worth of water. Works well enough for our resident lefties and preschoolers.
