Surfside Academy
A set of World Book Encyclopedias published in 1993? I can get a leather-bound set for $30! I know some of the information is outdated but they would still be useful, right?
GWOB
I would, but my idea of decorating is filling bookshelves with books;). YMMV ETA: My parents had an encyclopedia set from 1980, the year I was born. I read that thing religiously every day until I moved out. My kids are equally nerdy and would love even an outdated encyclopedia. Edited March 10, 2011 by wendilouwho

blakereese
For $30? You bet! :iagree: Yeh, I want it!! I also have fond memories of reading the World Book Encycopedias cover to cover. Most kids don't get the chance to do that these days. I say go for it!
Mallory
While mine is not leather, I got a 2002 set (a couple years ago) for $11 at our library book store.

skueppers
I probably wouldn't. I did buy a 2003 World Book from my library for a $50 donation, though. They would have taken $22, but I felt it was appropriate to give them more.
foxbridgeacademy
If you don't can I have them? You should absolutly get them.
SnMomof7
OH YEAAAAAAHHHH!!! Leather -woot! I picked up an '80s set of World Book (not leather) for $10 last year. After DD read an easy chapter book about Vikings, I found her on the floor with the 'V' volume trying to find out more. Totally worth it! Nothing beats a set of paper encyclopedias for browsing :). Everything in them is good general knowledge, only the demographics/political boundaries might be out of date a wee bit :).
nancyb
Haven't had a chance to read all the posts but many people prefer older encyclopedias because of their more conservative content. FYI-You can buy sets from half price books for $20. We bought a world book set and love them.
