Dianne-TX
DS is 11 months today. Has anyone started the transition to regular milk before a year? What are the problems, if any, with doing that.
justasque
Are you transitioning from formula to cow's milk? Or are you still partially breastfeeding? Does baby eat solid food? Are you considering this for financial reasons, or for other reasons?
Dianne-TX
He's been on formula full time since about 3 months. He is eating baby food and table food. He had spaghetti with us last night. :)
Janie Grace
I've gone from breastmilk to cow's milk at 11 months. No problems at all.
WiseOwlKnits
DS started cow's milk between 11 and 12 months. He was also still nursing, but also eating lots of table food. He was fine.
KellyGirl
My pediatrician actually recommended that I start transitioning my youngest between 9 and 12 months. He was exclusively b/fing and wouldn't take anything out of a cup, so the Dr. said to try cow's milk in the cup to get him used to it. I don't think that there is anything magical about turning one - but in general cow's milk is a lot harder to digest than the other stuff baby is drinking. You should be fine starting the transition now.
Sherry in OH
My second son switched to milk at 11.5 months. He switched from formula in a bottle to warm milk in a straw cup. I phased out baby food between 11 months and 1 year.
blondeviolin
My oldest switched fully to milk at 11.5 mos because I was pregnant and drying up. My pedi had told me if we could make it to 10.5 mos even then we could avoid formula. It's fine!
4kiddies
All of my children were breastfeed but started table foods and milk at 6 months.
Heatherwith4
Yep, DD has been given cow's milk occasionally since about 11 months. (That way, I don't have to pump anymore when I need to leave her for a while.) ;)
MrsBasil
My DH was started on raw cows milk around 6 months, because he kept having bad reactions to formulas. This was back in 1980 though. He's fine now. He had a lot of ear infections as a kid, just tons. I have no idea if that's due to the milk, but his mother attributes them partly to that. I think it's mostly genetics, his dad has horrible ear problems to.
