Teresa in MO
could someone describe these books to me. Would they be good for a 10yo boy who loves the Hardy Boys? Would I likely be able to buy them in a bookstore or should I order from Amazon today and hope they get here by Christmas? How many books are in the series? These are the ones by Trenton Stewert. Dee_Garretson
My 10-year-old daughter and I are listening to the audio book of the first one. She likes it, but it's a little more creepy than the Hardy Boys and it started out a bit slowly for her. I had to explain a little about the idea of subliminal messages, because that's how the bad guy is trying to take over. There are three in the series but I've heard the other two aren't as good. I'd love to hear opinions on those.
Starr
Sign up for the free mom's club at Amazon. They'll give you free Prime Shipping. I find that bookstores sometimes have what I want but not always. This close to Christmas you'll have to weigh your odds.
StephanieF
My ds11 LOVED them! He is getting the 3rd one for Christmas. Once he starts reading them he can't put them down which is unusal for him as he doesn't like fiction. Stephanie
rwjx2khsmj
There are three books in the series. As far as a comparison to the Hardy Boys, there's not much to compare. The stories are more of a fantasty story but a gripping one. The mystery is much more complex and convoluted than any Hardy boys mystery. The children are each gifted in their own way, the adults need the children to save the day, the children are put into dangerous situations, the bad guys are frighteningly evil. My dc and I have loved each and every one of the stories.
Sarah CB
This is the series that turned my reluctant reader into a voracious reader. Ds (10) loved the series and read all of the books more than once.
i.love.lucy
My 10yo dd also devoured the first book and is asking for the next 2 for Christmas. She is not really a huge mystery lover, but really really liked it! I didn't pre-read it because it's on so many must read lists from here that I figured it was trustworthy. Swirl
These are my son's favorite books. He's read the first and second one at least 10 times each. The third was his least favorite. The first one should be easy to find. Even our Walmart had it.
Mrs Mungo
They are more like James Bond novels for kids than they are like the Hardy boys. There is a definite fantastical element to them.
Teresa in MO
okay, I'm going to order from Amazon today. Signed up for Amazon Moms. Would you get the hardbound or the paperbacks? You can get the set of three paperbacks for the price of one hardback, but I'm still leaning towards the hardback.
Mrs Mungo
We have them in paperback.
In the Rain
I loved them, but 9yo dd thought the first one looked too tense. Someday I think she'll love them. I'd buy them in paperback so you can get all 3. I only buy hardback in picture books and classics. For a thick book like that, dd and dh both prefer paperback due to the lighter weight. Swirl
Our paperbacks now look terrible. They get slept with alot, son goes to sleep at night reading. :D I would still get paper back though, so you could get all three. Mothersweets
This series has been well-loved at our house! Everyone 10 and up has read them, even my 20yo ds who isn't a big reader. We have the paperbacks.
