Jenn in Mo
I'm finding some amigurumi stuff on Amazon that look fun, but I'd like to also get him a book on basics that can help him move up from the beginner level and to understand patterns without mom's help. Not to sound lazy or anything, but, yeah. I'm lazy. Suggestions?

Closeacademy
You may want to try Ravelry. Once you join (it's free), you can look through the patterns. I usually search for free & knitting but you can search for crochet. There are all sorts of neat things on there and you can even search for easy projects. :001_smile:
Susie in CA
Micheal's has beginner projects in the yarn section. Maybe he could find something there. Susie
stripe
Ravelry is neat, really neat. Be aware, though, in case this might bother you, that there are all sorts of projects on there, including anatomical crochet models and things to keep certain parts of the male anatomy warm and stuff like that! I don't mean to make the site as a whole sound dirty, but you should know it's not all just hats and doilies. Kids Crochet: Projects for Kids of All Ages by Kelli Ronci and Lena Corwin has lots of pictures of boys and a very clear explanation of basics. Cinder
Crochet Dude also has a beginner's kit but I can't remember where I saw it--JoAnn's, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby. ETA: Here is his website. You can see the beginner kits at the bottom of the page. Edited December 16, 2010 by Cinder
