kalphs
I've just finished six weeks of literary analysis/apologetics with my Lord of the Rings class. During school we are listening to "The Chronicles of Narnia" audio series. I am in the market for a new book to read, but want to stay away from the fantasy genre. Does anyone have any recommendations?
3lilreds in NC
Hm. I can't imagine wanting to stay away from the fantasy genre and a quick glance at my books shows that I am NO help in that regard. :D My dh, however, really likes: -Tom Clancy -Dale Brown -Harold Coyle -Clive Cussler -Stephen Coonts -Robert Ludlum My dad would recommend Louis L'Amour. In spite of LL being a complete chauvinist pig, he assures me that his books are historically accurate. If you decide to give him a try, I do NOT recommend "The Walking Drum." I did enjoy most of the books about the Sacketts. If you want a fun read, try Patrick McManus. His books about being an outdoorsman are hysterically funny. NanceXToo
Room, by Emma Donoghue. I started reading it after dinner, and could not stop. It's about a young mom who is kidnapped, and has a child, while imprisoned in a room for 7 years. It's one that I will remember for quite a while. I just reserved it from my library, sounds interesting!
stephanier.1765
I'm presently reading and enjoying the William Monk mysteries. Not a genre I usually read but I really enjoy these, probably because I enjoy the historical aspect of it.

LibraryLover
If you like funny-touching southern novels about women, I really enjoyed Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen, and Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen. There is just something about those types of books that help me relax. Very comforting stuff.
