kalanamak
I work for the state. It is a state with an across the board cut of 6.2% (now) and 3.8% more next June. To make this happen at our hospital, the CEO decided to drop 20% of the people in my job (internists) in addition to closing a ward and losing some other people. But our classification got the biggest hit. I have enough seniority to keep my spot (for now). A man who is "last in, first out" is a RABID conservative. It is so bad, when he gets on a rant I immediately change the subject, having lived through a lot of sarcastic comments, tossing the word "socialist" around a lot, and many slurs on the President. I dislike politics at the workplace. It divides people who need to be together. I find it HIGHLY infra-dig. Plus....the guy works for the bad guy he insults all the time THE STATE. He says socialism is contrary to human nature, and is big on social darwinism. Fast forward to today's meeting. He is going to lose his job. He's got some young kids. He is red faced and sweaty. Another doc, who has seniority, puts forth the idea of extra furlough days (we already have one a month) to keep all the internists employed....basically, a shared paycut. The idea was discussed in detail, all by people who have been there for years, and not people I've ever heard a peep about politics from (some are pretty taciturn and grouchy, actually). Mr. Hothead Social Darwinist is very, very, very quiet. It was nearly worth it to see this. I've often heard "scratch a liberal and watch a conservative bleed" but it was the other way around today. Perhaps human nature is a little less uniform than he thought it was. (For the record, I registered my vote for "what ever the majority decides, I will go along with cheerfully.") P.S. The isn't a politcal thread....it is about seeing a loudmouth shown up. Remember....I think politics in places where policy is not made is infra-dig. Jean in Newcastle
I'm glad that you kept your job. Did the rabble rouser keep his? I hope that he learned some humility and perhaps some verbal self control.
FairProspects
Well, we are blessed to be in the process of switching to a federal job, because dh's position (also working for the state) in this same lovely region was just eliminated. Before leaving, he interviewed for a promotion at his current employer and the state is now paying less than half the salary the position commanded 2 years ago. Things are getting really rough for our state :(.
Jane in NC
Thank you for sharing this story. I have grown very tired of those who feel compelled to force their bombastic tirades upon the rest of us who are living our lives in relative peace and calm. One wonders whether this fellow will exercise some decent manners if indeed his job is saved because of the selflessness of his colleagues. Sounds like you work with (mostly) very nice people. Best regards, Jane

Best regards, Jane Completely agree. I've seen that on both ends of the spectrum and I'm so sick of it. I hope all of you can keep your jobs. Having littles to take care of has to be stressful. I, like you, tire of the tirades on both ends of the spectrum. I have an opinion but I keep it to myself (unless asked) and even then I can express it in a manner that allows me to maintain my friendships and my dignity. I'm glad you are still employed!
