Perry
I'm trying to decide what to do with my 8th grade dd next year. If you use MCT for LA, what are you doing for literature/reading?

Caitilin
We are planning on doing Lightning Lit 7 in conjunction with Voyage for my olders, and nothing formal for my Town level younger, apart from just getting him to read and outline some good stuff. (he's a hard sell on lit... :glare:)

Perry
We used K12 literature with MCT in 8th grade. So did you just skip the vocab and GUM portions of K12, or did you do it all? Dd's sister did K12 Literary Criticism and Composition a couple years ago. I really like K12's Lit, but doing all of both seems like an awful lot. Matryoshka
The plan is for LL8 and a book group à la Deconstructing Penguins and Teaching the Classics (still haven't quite figured out how to make these two mesh).
Embassy
Our literature and reading choices are here. I plan to utilize discussion to help determine comprehension as well as to help develop literary analysis skills. Cindy in NY
My 8th grader will use Excellence in Literature: Intro to Lit along with MCT Maura in NY is setting up an online discussion for the kiddos using it this year. You can see her post about it here http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200798
StephanieZ
The MCT book Classics in the Classroom has a very easy to implement idea on classics. . . Essentially having the child read a classic every 2-3 weeks and then sit down for a 1-on-1 conversation with you (30 min?) to talk it over. All you'd need is a good book list to start from. . . It's a good read! Of course, that's not all I'm doing, lol. We do SL, so there is some good lit in there. Dd13 will also be doing the William & Mary Utopia unit.
