What is a good beginner Spanish or French program for 6 and 8 yr olds who read well?

Recommended Posts

I know more beginner Latin programs than other languages. I would like ideas about Spanish and French.

I am still indecisive about languages, so please help me if you have used such programs. What have you used and loved to teach/learn along with your kids for Spanish or French?

Also what readers have you used with each language?

Thanks,

J

For French you could use these for writing and reading. ..... http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=frenchsmart+&x=0&y=0 ..... The first (FrenchSmart 4) mostly builds vocabulary. We used these casually with Tell Me More and lots of reading. I bought easy French readers through here ..... http://www.scholastic.ca/clubs/lecture/ I also looked for children's French books at used book stores, Value Village, etc. As well, my dd listened to DVDs & CDs in French; for the DVDs I didn't care if she understood everything, I just chose either an easy one or one she was familiar with in English and we went from there.

HTH!

There will be a Spanish class offered at our church by a former missionary to Mexico. It is one hour a week for 13 weeks and is $65/kid. So both ds will be in the class. I don't know what we will do after this session because I have no long term plan for Spanish yet. We are doing Song School Latin and Mandarin now. I think this class will offer exposure at least.
