  1. Just wanted you to know you're not alone. My husband experiences similar episodes. I just bite my lip and pray Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
  2. Anyone? I see several people have read this post but no one is replying. Does that mean you're just as curious as I am?
  3. I'm not sure if I'm posting this to the right board or not. But.... I'm considering Sonlight Core 100 for my 8th graders and since Literature books are included, I'm thinking about getting the LA to go along with it. I know past editions of SL LA weren't well favored by the users of this forum, but SL changes things pretty frequently, so I'm hoping they've improved it. I'd love to know your opinion of SL LA in more recent years? Thanks so much!

  5. Thank you all so much for your expertise :001_smile:
  6. Thank you so much! I'd never heard of that one. This one may be better suited for our purpose. I have zero experience in literary analysis. Which one should I start with? Are these meant to be read aloud to my students before reading actual reading selections? How I imagine their intended use to be is for me to read this book aloud to my students and discuss the situations, then we use that information while reading real books together as read alouds as well. We usually do shared reading where we take turns reading out loud. Am I correct or missing the point completely?
  7. Anyone ever used Deconstructing Penguins for 6th graders and up? When looking at the book's description, it only mentions up to grade 5. But it looks like a book that even I would greatly benefit from. Is this a guide that we can use while studying any book or only the books suggested? Thanks
  8. I'm. In the same boat with my 6th graders. They don't read for pleasure but I really want them to love reading. I don't want to force-feed them which will likely have the opposite effect on them.
  9. Thank you all for replying. I ordered it and I'm excited. I think knowing that there won't be any new material after 10 weeks of season 1 will be motivation for my kids to buckle down and give it their all. They didn't like diagramming with previous curriculum (k12) but I believe in diagramming and with proper instruction, I hope they will too. I hope they start to see it as a puzzle or game.
  10. Starting school in a little over a week and I'm still undecided on grammar. My newest love is AG. We didnt use JAG though. Will that pose a problem? I have a pretty good understanding of grammar, although I'll need some brushing up. I've also considered Easy Grammar and Growing with Grammar. But the idea of really giving topics time to sink in for a few days before moving on and then simply staying fresh with ongoing reviews and not repeating each topic anew every year just makes sense to me. But I'm a little afraid its too much. Help me decide please.
  11. Thanks for responding. Did you ever check out the tutor?
  12. I received my used copy of Spelling Power and the Teacher's Resource CD-ROM was broken in half. I know I can buy one from the publisher for $8 including postage but only if I need it. How useful is it? I understand there are blackline masters on it which I believe we can live without. What I'm curious about is the searchable word list and the Digital Spelling Tutor. I can see where the searchable word list could be helpful. BTW I will be using this with 11yo and a 15yo struggling speller. Can someone describe the Digital Spelling Tutor to me. Thanks
  13. I believe Soaring with Spelling also includes vocabulary. Looks like you've got a good plan.
