Suzanne115
Hi - Does anyone have any recommended resources for a study of China? We are adopting a baby from China and expect to travel by the end of the year. I want to read some books and do some activities with my 8 year old daughter before we go. Thank you, Suzanne

Dmmetler
Here's the Peabody Place Museum website. http://www.belzmuseum.org/web/96/EducationPrograms.aspx They used to have a museum guide available free to teachers as well (I know-I wrote/compiled it!), but I'm guessing the limited material on the website has replaced it, since I don't see it listed as available anymore. Suzanne115
Thank you all so much! I hope I'll have time tomorrow to sort through all the resources that you posted. I really appreciate it. Suzanne
Farrar
Jili Jiang's wonderful book The Magical Monkey King is a must. Chinese kids all know Monkey, who is a recurring character in folklore and literature.

Shifra
If you are adopting from China, I assume that you already know about Families with Children from China. They have lots of information on their website. Also the catalog from Asia for Kids has lots of books and resources for families who adopt from China, including children's books. dee67p
I appreciate all the info from Jimmie at her website. It's http://www.jimmiescollage.com/. We did a "unit study" in 2008 in conjunction with the olympics and used many of her suggestions.
Suzanne115
Wow! You have all given me some wonderful suggestions. I'm sure we will have a lot of fun and learn a lot. My 8 year old was adopted from Kazakhstan and we have a terrible time finding resources about her birth country. She loves the books I have found and she is excited to learn about China. Thank you all so much! Suzanne
