The first time my dh had a kidney stone my sister and I took him to the hospital. He is a tough guy but was basically writhing on the ground. The nurse asked "on a scale of 1-10 how bad is the pain?" DH says, "I don't know? 8?" I immediately said "woah, wait a minute, this is a guy who once ran 5 miles on a broken foot, write down 11!"
