Cammie
I was at the fruit shop today and purchased this really funky looking fruit called a Dragon fruit. It is pink, about the size of a grapefruit but it has...tendrils growing out of it (for lack of a better description!) Any clues on how to approach this fruit would be appreciated. Also, so you can all appreciate easy access to US fruits- the shop was selling cherries for Rs 1400 per kg (about $30 per 2.2 lbs!) We passed on the cherries! nono
Oh yes! I like it. Peel away the pink and eat the inside. Here's a picture of the insides ready to serve:
Crissy
Yum! My boys ate it for breakfast every morning when we were visiting China.
Cammie
Thanks for the picture - at least I know what to expect!! I guess we will open it up for breakfast tomorrow!
*********
Never had a dragon fruit; it looks yummy! My dss begged and begged me to buy him a kiwano horned melon, so I finally did. It was only four dollars, but it's a bit strange looking. :tongue_smilie: We took it to the in-laws on Thansgiving so everyone could try it. Once I cut it open, I had to *insist that dss try it, LOL. It's green and gelatinous inside, with lots of seeds. Not the most appetizing looking fruit. And it tasted, to me at least, like cucumber. Dss hasn't asked me to buy another. :D
Cammie
Ok - found a picture. Isn't it cool looking??
Guest Virginia Dawn
Never had a dragon fruit, but I've had ugli fruit. :-) Any cherries you see are probably not from the US. The only ones here now are from South America.
cylau
I think you can find a video about how to open a dragon fruit on U-tube. I opened one a long time ago.
earthmother
and it was the only thing I craved with my last pregnancy. They need to be pretty ripe but its a fine line between them being overripe. They aren't the sweetest fruit but so yummy!
MaMa2005
Oh, how I loved the Dragon Fruit on our trips to China. Yummy!!!!
Rosie_0801
We can only get the pink dragonfruits and they are both expensive and fairly tasteless. Now a few months back I was up in the tropics and had some yellow dragonfruit. I rekon everyone in heaven eats yellow dragonfruit! Sputterduck
They have flavor but aren't very sweet like most fruits are. I think they're really yummy!

I saw hotels in Malaysia that had signs for "NO Durians allowed!" Why is that?
