Alice
My almost 6 yr old is really interested in learning to play chess. I have no idea how to play. Dh knows how to play and is willing to teach him, but he isn't the most natural at teaching at 6 yr old. Not bashing dh at all, he's a very good teacher...but just not used to teaching young kids. I was wondering if anyone knew of any materials out there that either dh or I could use to teach ds. Something fun...I'm not trying to push ds to learn this but he's mentioned many many times that he wants to learn so I figure I should try it. dirty ethel rackham
Usborne's Starting Chess is very good for a beginner. Great info and some fun illustrations as well. (The link is to my website - I am a rep.) I also remember another book that my kids used that had some great illustrations of knights and pawns, kings, queens etc. and explained the reasons why each piece moved like it did. There are also some beginner chess sets out there that have the allowed moves printed on the base.

MyLittleWonders
No Stress Chess :iagree: Can't recommend it more highly. We love that game around here. Me too! We stumbled upon it this summer and the boys have LOVED learning. Even our youngest, though we don't hold him to the rules yet. ;) No Stress Chess even made me interested in learning how to play.
