TravelingChris
I feel sad for the murdered student's family and friends but also for that whole university community. Will the tragedies with that campus never end?
lionfamily1999
When did this happen? My cousin is moving in TODAY?!? :(
Chris in VA
Please post a link. I think campus security is much better than before the shootings, but you are still going to have crime with that many people crammed together. We have lots of friends with kids there--
Mrs Mungo
Please post a link. I think campus security is much better than before the shootings, but you are still going to have crime with that many people crammed together. We have lots of friends with kids there-- They weren't killed on campus, they were off campus. http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/08/28/Police-seek-suspects-in-2-Va-Tech-deaths/UPI-26251251470231/ The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg, Va., and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest, Va., were found Thursday in a day-use area of the Jefferson National Forest, The Roanoke Times reported Friday. "We are going to step up our patrols in that area even though we think it was a random act of brutal violence," Sheriff Tommy Whitt said. Chris in VA
I don't mean to be callous, but I do feel better that they were off campus. Still, a huge tragedy.

Tree House Academy
The voilence in this world is so much worse than it was even just 10 years ago. When I was in college in a decent sized city 10 years ago, there was always the random car break-in, stolen stuff, etc. But the number of murders has just sky-rocketed in the last few years. Senseless and insane crimes. :( It really scares me for my children (growing up..).

I looked up crime statistics for the city where I went to college and they are almost exactly the same now as what they were then (1990-1994). This is despite the city itself having grown, population-wise.

hsmamainva
Is the school located in a high crime area? Virginia Tech is in the middle of nowhere....literally! There's a "town" that's centered around the campus, with hotels and a few eateries and the like, but it's just a hamlet in the middle of the mountains. I think there are around 25,000 students there. iluvmy4blessings
I'm originally from Virginia and tons of my classmates went there. It is completely rural. In fact I recall many of them saying the only view were some cows. This was in early 90's but I doubt it's gone big city since then. VA Tech can't catch a break these days. Sorry to hear this.
