Toddlers are actually my favorite. Babies are adorable, but they're kind of boring. And once they hit 5 or 6, they start to sort of know what's going on and become real little people. But toddlers are so amazed by everything, and they think I'm funny even though I'm really not, and they are still very gullible. That's a recipe for fun.

This is my first year, but it seems to me that my son is socializing better now than when he was in public preschool. He's an introvert, and daily interactions were difficult and taxing. When I was pregnant with my first, we were living with my in-laws. My FIL was watching First Blood (the original Rambo) and I cried during his speech about his friend who wanted to come home and drive his car. During the course of the day, everyone who came in ended up starting the movie over because it was in the DVD player. I cried at that scene 3 times in 24 hours. DH thinks it's hilarious. My DH tells me stories of his childhood sometimes. He says that when his mother had to run to the store for something, she would put him on the couch and turn on horror movies. She knew that he would be too scared to get up and get into trouble while she was gone. I'm not sure if that's child abuse or pure genius.

I have our fall break scheduled for this week. I'm not sure if we're actually going to take it though. I feel like we've got a pretty good rhythm going. I don't want to mess that up. But the weather is perfect for a break. Maybe we'll just do a light week - math and phonics only. I'm meeting with a new homeschooler this afternoon to look at our curriculum. She just pulled her son out last week and is feeling lost. Hopefully, I can ease her mind a bit.

I think a lot of grammar is taught through exposure. Some kids can pick it up and internalize it, so an actual grammar curriculum just reinforces and gives the proper terminology. Some kids need more direct instruction. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk

A few years ago, a very close friend of the family had dementia. He was the most stubborn man I have ever known. If you tried to correct him, he would just dig his heels in and start a fight. I think it embarrassed him. We learned to just go with it.

I did a version of this system. Basically, I just put it all in a binder separated by weeks. And I only planned six weeks at a time. The first six weeks it worked like a dream. The second six weeks, not so much. Two weeks worth of math lessons were stuff he already knew and didn't need to practice. So I had to keep pulling worksheets from future weeks. We are home. We had a fantastic trip, we all had a blast, and both boys were begging to stay just a little longer. We got in the car to go home... Me: So, what was your favorite part of today?
