  1. I hate mornings. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  2. My 2 year old is pretending to be a cat again. His name is Malcolm. "What's your name, sweet kitty?" "Meow-colm" This kid. He kills me. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  3. We have regular chores that must be done before they can work for money. These are things like picking up their toys, feeding the dogs, or putting away their laundry. They can do extra work after their chores are done if they want to earn money. I'm cheap though. I give them a quarter or a dime for each job. On some weekends, my oldest can help DH for a dollar or two. DH is generous. I do not make them save yet, but will once they are a bit older. I'm super proud of my 5 year old, though. He picks what he wants and saves his quarters until he gets there. Last thing he bought was an $80 Lego set. He saved for 7 months. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  4. Yeah, I'm not going to do that. Fifteen minutes of binge-eating ice cream sounds good though.
  5. I would ask her the question orally and have her list out bullet points (or list them for her until she got the hang of it.) Then have her write a paragraph using those points as a reference. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  6. I call my husband 'husband' too. And I call my sons 'son'. It's easier than trying to remember so many names.
  7. I don't know how old I am. I obviously know my birthday, but I have to think about it if someone asks my age. I also don't know how old my husband is. By the time I get used to answering one way, it's his birthday again.
  8. There is no such thing as 'only a book.' Every time a book ends, I feel as if an entire world has gone missing.
  9. He went to PS preschool last year where they did the small group thing. It was fine, but not great. When school let out for the summer, I started homeschooling and started the private speech. I have seen improvements in just a few months. I'm not entirely sure if it's because of the different therapy, because we've started working on phonics and phonemic awareness daily at home, or a combination of whatever other reasons. Whatever it is, it seems to be working. I don't think I will stop. And we (finally) met our deductible, so the money thing won't be as much of an issue. Anyway, I feel like I'm bringing down the spirit of this thread. Chicken nuggets, anyone?
  10. We're back from our meeting. The public school is offering speech therapy once a week for half an hour in a small group setting. Our private speech therapist sees him twice a week, one-on-one, for 45 minutes. I really like the private speech therapist. She's great and I really feel like he's making progress. But...money. :crying: I could do both, but is 3 times a week too much?... Probably for me and my homebody instincts. ugh....decisions are hard. Who put me in charge of this?
  11. Breakfast consisted of coffee and cupcakes. Not even muffins, but full-blown cupcakes. We have speech therapy and an IEP meeting today, so school is probably not happening. And I get to be out and about for hours with a potty training 2.5 year old. Wish me luck. I have no idea what we're having for dinner. We're basically out of groceries, and I am not going shopping until tomorrow. So I will have to get creative. That's all for now. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  12. Ugh...not looking forward to our IEP meeting today. Plus between speech therapy, this meeting, and more speech, and errands, and OT this week....I'm not sure when I'll actually educate my child. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  13. Thank you! I love it when it's like that. I have to straighten it but more often than not it's too humid and it starts to curl again. Which is still okay, but I don't like it nearly as much.
  14. Good morning. Both of my sons crawled in bed with DH and me last night. There was no longer any room, so I moved to the couch. Then DH followed me because he wanted to cuddle, and there was no room there either. All these cuddlebugs seriously mess up the amount of sleep I get. Coffee...

  16. It's not entirely accurate, historically speaking. But it is a lot of fun.
  17. I was there 2 weeks ago. My folks live in San Antonio and buy us the annual passes every year. I think the next time we go will be for the tree lighting.
  18. I was a freshman in high school. I was sitting in my lit class reading Dante's Inferno when it happened. Someone came and pulled our teacher out of the room to tell him what happened. He came back in and explained it to us, complete with drawings on the chalkboard to illustrate. We spent the rest of the day listening to the news on the radio in every class. 19. We alternate hosting Xmas and Thanksgiving each year. Our head count is typically between 30-40. When we started, it was only 25 or so. But everyone (including us) started getting married and having kids. Now it's just an open invite to anyone who doesn't have anywhere else to go. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  20. I had my boys watching Schoolhouse Rock last night. My husband says, "what's a noun?" As I'm waiting for my 5 year old to answer him, I look up and realize he was directing the question at me. My dh didn't know what a noun is. And that's why my boys aren't in public school. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  21. I started phonics with my 5 year old a few months ago. He isn't really getting it. He does a little better with a whole word approach, but I'm thinking I may wait a few months and try again. However, to my complete surprise, his 2 year old brother seems to really enjoy the phonics work. I won't be surprised if he learns to read just by listening in to big brother's lessons. I think reading is just like walking or potty training. You can push it and you may get results after lots of frustration. But ultimately, it is up to the child. You cannot do it for them; they have to be willing and ready to do it themselves. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  22. Finished all our school work and now my boys are not listening to the audiobook I have playing. I think I'll just hide in the bathroom while they kill each other. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  23. This is a free aquatic science curriculum. I've never used it; my kids are nowhere near old enough. I only know about it because of one of our local groups. It might be worth looking at. http://tpwd.texas.gov/education/resources/aquatic-science/texas-aquatic-science Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  24. I'm still waiting (im)patiently for my coffee to finish. I homeschool because I hate mornings. Thankfully we have no speech therapy or other appointments during the day, so we should be able to get all our work done without a hitch. Tonight is our first basketball practice. DS5 is super excited about playing this year. He's really starting to come out of his shell, so that's good. And his cousins are on his team and my brother is coaching so he should feel at ease with them. Off to fill my cup... Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
  25. I would be comfortable with my 5.5 year old going into the men's room by himself, but he's not ready yet. We also live in a small, relatively close-knit community. If we lived somewhere else, I think I might make him stay with me until 8 or 9. Sent from my HTCD200LVW using Tapatalk
