  1. This reminded me of The Atlas Six…It’s not often that I despise all of the characters in a book, but I really did not like any of them, or the story either. 🤷‍♀️ I struggle with DNFing books, but I’m trying to be better about it, especially since my TBR shelf keeps growing. 😂
  2. I put a hold on this a few weeks ago, and it just became available from Libby yesterday. I’ve enjoyed several of Abby Jimenez’s books, so I’m looking forward to this one!
  3. Thanks for the heads up…we were thinking about starting Business Proposal next actually. If it’s just kissing, that should be ok, but I’ll have to think about it.
  4. Just thought of another question… So far I’ve noticed that the romance stuff has all been very PG…is this pretty common throughout all shows, or are there some that have more sexually explicit content? As I mentioned before, DD12 has been watching with me, so I just wanted to know what to watch out for.
  5. What is the difference between the standard and plus?
  6. Those of you who use Viki…can you tell me about it? Briefly looking at it, it seems like there is some free stuff available, but otherwise looks like I’ll need a subscription. Do you have the standard pass, or the plus? Anything else I should know?
  7. This made me laugh…both my MIL and FIL have Ridgelines and I kind of agree with your DS. 🫣 I used to drive an F150…I have an Expedition now. I’m not really tied to Ford in particular, HOWEVER, those Ridgeline are not “trucks”….the tops “look” like trucks but they are like on a car chassis, or something. It’s weird. I live in Texas and I’m surrounded by big cars, so they just look kind of puny. 🤣 Regarding the Prius…sorry Scarlett, but I just don’t think the Prius is a very good looking car. I’m into the aesthetics of cars, and it’s 😬. The look of a car matters to me, along with lots of other things too. There are so many options out there, so it’s just not something I’d pick. Not sure what that dude meant though.
  8. I'm currently reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. I'm liking it so far, but I'm only about 50 pages in. I may have to put it aside for a little bit because my book club is coming up and I need to start that book, which is The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal.
  9. Happy May! April wasn’t the most productive reading month for me, but school is almost over (yay!!!) so hopefully I’ll have a few more hours in the day to pickup a book. (I’m totally not going to blame k-dramas for my lack of reading. 🫣🤭😂) Anywho, I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying lots of wonderful stories! Happy reading!
  10. I do this too. Also sometimes the naked books have cool little details embossed on the book so it can be a fun little surprise when you remove the dust jacket. ☺️ I read hardbacks, paperbacks, and my kindle. I guess my preference are the larger, floppy paperback books. (I don't like mass market paperbacks...too small.) I don't really mind hardbacks either as long as they aren't too stiff. I like collecting my favorite books and seeing them on my shelf, so that's the drawback of the kindle, otherwise I enjoy reading on that too.
  11. I finished Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes. This book was very different from the other book I've read from this author (The Giver of Stars). I enjoyed both books. This story follows two women who one day accidentally get their gym bags mixed up. Nisha lives a very glamorous, rich life, but on the day she loses her bag her husband also decides to lock her out of their penthouse hotel home because he wants a divorce. Sam is struggling at home because her husband is in a deep depression, her daughter is growing up, and her boss is horrible to her. When she realizes she has the wrong bag, she needs to borrow the super expensive Christian Louboutin shoes that are inside the stranger's bag because she has business meetings to attend. The shoes make her feel good and help her realize she needs to get out of her funk. Craziness ensues from there, and this was a super fun story. (4 stars)
  12. DH saw this article the other day. It doesn’t mention k-dramas specifically, just k-content, but I’m assuming k-dramas are included…. https://www.barrons.com/news/netflix-to-invest-2-5-bn-in-south-korean-content-34882e62
  13. I definitely agree that moms can do this too!! I was just commenting on myself...sorry if that wasn't clear. I'm sure you'll do great...it's good that you're not prone to freaking out! ☺️ I wish you all the best!
  14. This is good advice. 😊 My oldest DD is about to turn 15 in May, so we're getting ready for this too. I fully admit that I'm the wrong person for the job for this very reason. DH will be the designated driving instructor which will be better for everyone. 😂 Good luck @BandH...I hope it all goes well for y'all!!
  15. My DDs are in 7th and 9th grade now. As we’ve started high school and their workload has increased, it’s getting harder and harder to find the time for read alouds, but it’s honestly my favorite part of our day so I will continue with it for as long as we can. I think that’s so cool that you still do that with your daughter! ☺️
  16. Does anyone have suggestions for a good poetry study? I'm focusing on American Literature next year, so preferably American poets. I've found two so far... 7Sisters American Poetry - https://www.7sistershomeschool.com/teach-teens-like-poetry-american-poetry-reading-writing/ Lantern English's American Lit II focuses on both American Poetry and short stories - https://www.lanternenglish.com/_files/ugd/145692_14fc7501fe6549319df0c67a76224b12.pdf Any other suggestions? Or has anyone used either of the above? Thanks!
  17. Well first, I just wanted to let you all know that DD12 is also now a true K-drama addict!! We watch together pretty much every night. 🤣 We’re still trying to convince DD14, but she’s always too busy for us. 😂 DH lived in Korea when he was a kid (military) so he’ll chat with us about stuff sometimes, but I don’t think we’ll convert him. Anywho, we recently finished Hometown Cha Cha Cha. It was really good. DD prefers dubbing (aaahhhh 😫), so we watched most of it that way. She allowed me to change it to subtitles on the last episode and I felt like I was watching a whole new show! There were a few cheeseball episodes in the middle, but for the most part we both liked it a lot. Now we’re in the middle of The King’s Affection. Boy is it different from the last show! It started a little slow, but we’re liking it so far. We’re only on episode 7, so things haven’t picked up the pace just yet.
  18. We have tarantulas at our house (I'm in the Texas Hill Country). When we moved from the big city out to a more rural type area it was a bit of an adjustment to get used to them. However, after I learned that they eat the scorpions, I now love them! Scorpions are evil...they have crawled in my bed! My dog does not have the same love for the tarantulas as me, and I've had to rescue a few of them, which was scary, but necessary. 😂
  19. Yes, that is the exact quote. FYI…This type of exercise is not exclusive to this particular book. Students are asked to do this other times in the workbook with other books. The workbook has lots of different activities, like maps, timeline figures, other drawings, etc, not just direct questions and this is one of them.
  20. I saw this one in the bookstore the other day…y’all are making me want to get it. I really don’t need any more books on my TBR shelf! 🤣
  21. Hmmmm...I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. We are a large country (population wise) made up of 50 unique states, that sometimes act as their own little countries. Each state/region has different people and culture. While I understand that other countries have come up with legislation that you think would help, I think it would be difficult to enact those things here because of how different we are. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.
  22. What is a "very similar" country to the US? I kind of feel as though we are unique in our issues which oftentimes makes it hard to look for guidance.
