  1. You think like I do. We have still been using word perfect believe it or not. Just purchased word and oh I love your schedules. I've already been copying them. Thanks so much!!! Have you ever done a lively art of writing schedule. Thanks!!!!!
  2. We're doing American literature. We're using writing strands 7 also. Maybe Writing strands Exposition, too. Which one of the literature analysis programs would you recommend....excellence in literature or lightning literature? What's the difference, etc.? Thanks
  3. This is what we have done. We've always just done one a year. We did it 2 days a week. We did one lesson a week, one week for review exercises, one week for final review and test. Week 1 Lesson 1 Week 2 Lesson 2 Week 3 Lesson 1 and 2 Review Week 4 Final Review and Test This worked out for 32 weeks. We didn't do any other activities with it. We just went over the workbook. I did it with her the first couple of years by end of 9th grade she was on her own. I think it did help with ACT and such. Hope this helps, Cindy
  4. Our plans are..... Abeka Grammar 11th grade Writing Strands 7/maybe Writing Strands Exposition, too Lively Art of Writing Vocabulary from Classical Roots American Literature picks(at least 12...she's good reader) There will be some writing of course in history, etc. Let me know your opinion. Thank yall so much.
  5. I really lack confidence in this decision....so Ellie, you think if I did Writing Strands 7 and Writing Strands Expository along with Lively art of Writing for the next 2 years that would suffice and I could skip the Abeka composition exercises. You are right they are in the teacher's handbook which I don't have so I was trying to see what to do. My daughter took ACT and did well in reading and english section but I've never been confident that her/our writing was up to par....just my real weakness.:001_smile: Thank you
  6. Thank you. I knew she did in the grammar years I just couldn't tell once you got in high school. It seemed unclear as I read her well trained mind book but it's probably my brain is malfunctioning:001_smile:
  7. We use Abeka Grammar, Writing strands 7 and Lively Art of Writing. Can I or should I skip the composition exercises in Abeka. Please any help. My daughter will be a junior. thanks!
  8. Thanks! Right now our state requires 3 sciences which she already has but recommends 4 sciences. I'm trying to make sure this high school astronomy course would count. this is the description they give. Do you think I could use astronomy? They don't mention astronomy per se but just the language of same rigor. See below for the "recommended science" Science: 4 Carnegie Units - Includes Biology I, Chemistry I, and any two Carnegie Units of comparable rigor and content. (e.g., Physics, Physical Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, AP Chemistry, Physics II, AP Physics B, AP Physics C – Electricity and Magnetism, and AP Physics C – Mechanics, Botany, Microbiology, or Human Anatomy and Physiology.)
  9. My daughter really likes the stars, etc. and would really like to do an astronomy course for one of her sciences. She'll be a junior. She's taken physical science, biology and chemistry. All apologia and done quite well but would like to do something in astronomy end. Any suggestions.
  10. My dd will be 11th grade next year. She has done very well in science in apologia. She requested shed love to do one about astronomy. It needs to count as a full credit. She doesn't need it to have a lab(we already have our lab requirements met with other scien.) Would the signs and seasons be enough to count as full credit for science. Thanks
  11. Okay, I am writing challenged I admit it. I'm the mathy gal. Anyone know where I can get my hand on the answers to the questions at the end of each chapter in the Lively art of writing.
  12. I feel your pain! I'm right there with you! So many interruptions!
  13. the IEW has always been too expensive for me to buy. Can they buy "IEW High School/SAT Essay and the IEW college level writing prep " this separately and do it even though we haven't used IEW program. Thanks
  14. Just thought it would be fun to see what others were doing for 6th grade. What subjects/curriculum are you using? Hard to believe my youngest are in 6th grade next year:glare:
  15. Those that use sonlight do you use something else beside their language arts and if so what do you substitute with. I've used along with it, Abeka grammar, Writing Strands, and Classical Roots Vocab. Do yall think this is enough. Thanks,
  16. thanks! Oh, I agree. I hate Steinbeck. I read mice and men and threw it away it was so depressing....left you empty inside. Great list! Thanks
  17. Thank you. That was helpful. I had forgotten about WTM recommendations. 18 is doable. She loves to read. I think Sonlight had 27!
  18. Thank you for this suggestion. Oh, I'm trying so hard not to be worried about those scores!!:001_smile:
  19. My daughter will be 11th grade next year. She will be doing American government and econ for history requirement. I'd like her literature to be American literature. Any great lists you can tell me about. I've looked at Sonlight catalogue for what they do but boy do they have alot to read. Just trying to determine what is enough. Help?
  20. Yes, I agree that it is well worth the time and hard work to prepare for the ACT to acheive the best scholarship you can. My husband was referring to the fact that you shouldn't let the ACT define you and label you a success or not.....that it doesn't define whether you'll be successful in college or in life......which I sometimes start thinking:001_smile:
  21. Thank you creekland. I had no idea, it worked like that. Is that why many have told me it's not graded as hard in the lower grades? I've never seen that on their website so I thought people were just incorrect. Are they comparing the students with other students in their same grade level only? Boy, am I learning. Thank you ladies, so much. I do feel better and realize ACT doesn't make or break your life just your scholarships and getting to college can be done without that...be it may take a bit longer if you work and go etc. As my dear husband said once they're out of college noone will even ask their ACT score!!! I'm just hoping for a little money break. Just love my cyber friends, here!!!!
