  1. I'm doing this for my 9th grade daughter. How did yall assign which exercises from the Sets to do. I've used Saxon and Abeka and I'm so used to saying do all the odd but don't think that will work for Jacobs. I"m trying to get a handle on what and also how many problems to give. Thank you. Cindy
  2. Thank you. We've actually done Easy Grammar Plus. I think I worry so that she's not getting all she needs in writing. So would you suggest continuing the writing strands til you go thru writing exposition? Thanks, Cindy
  3. I have ABeka grammar and composition III and writing strand level 5. I'm in a quandry. Do I do the grammar in Abeka and skip all the composition and do writing strand level 5 or do I need to do some of the Abeka composition lessons that aren't really covered in writing strands like outlining, essays, etc. etc. I don't know why but I can't seem to get a handle on this. Thank you ladies so verymuch ahead of time. Writing has always been our weaker subject. Cindy
  4. I was looking for a good spanish curriculum other than Rosetta STone.
  5. I was looking for some suggestions for good spanish curriculum other than Rosetta Stone. Thanks!
  6. I have never felt comfortable with our writing. My oldest daughter is in the 9th grade. We dabbled in Wordsmith. We have done writing strands level 3 and 4. We've used dictation and used Learning Language Arts thru Literature. I just can't get a handle on this. Any suggestions?? Thank you!
  7. My soon to be 9th grader loves foreign languages. She has done extremely well in Latin. Can anyone recommend a good Spanish besides Rosetta. Rosetta is so expensive! Cindy
  8. I've been rereading my well trained mind and it seems where in the younger years Susan doesn't recommend Abeka's writing that she does when they get in 9th grade. Am I reading that right? And what do ya'll think? I've never found a writing program I'm totally happy with probably because I feel incompetent to teach it!
  9. I"ve been using WWE and abeka grammar. My girls will be in 4th grade. I was thinking about staying with WWE and also going with FLL4. What do yall think? Is the copywork, narration too much of the same or is it a great fit. I'd love your ideas. Cindy
  10. Thanks hoosiermom! I have not seen the rest of the book. I think that last chapter must have just been a whole chapter on writing 2 column proofs for practice. This has cleared up my question. Also, as a math person myself, I'm finally relaxing about my daughter using geometry and the ACT. I've been so fearful of choosing the "perfect" text. I think I have resolved there is no "perfect" math program and opinions differ so much. Thanks for your input.
  11. Thank you, MCP. I figured that had to be the case. I think I had always thought of "proofs" as when you have to actually write out what the conclusion was and then what the theorem, etc. was. So this makes sense. Now, when one tells me that a geometry text doesn't require proofs I have to wonder, just how much geometry is there really. Thanks for your help.
  12. I have a dumb question. I majored in engineering. I love math and I love geometry. I have taught a geometry class and tutored geometry. This is my question. Yesterday I was discussing different geometry books with a lady who tutors for alot of the private high schools in my area. We were discussing a certain curr. and I said they don't do proofs til the last chapter and she said no, it's from the very beginning and they do proofs all thru the book. I had a copy of the last chapter of the book from a student and I showed her the chapter that was titled "Formalizing Proofs"(the chapter was about 2 column proofs). Anyway she said oh no, the schools never get to that chapter, but proofs are throughout the bookfrom the very beginning(we were talking about Glencoe geometry). WEll, I dropped the subject and I don't want to appear as a dumb homeschool mom, so could someone explain what she's talking about. I thought the 2 column proof was "proofs". Is she just talking about when you have to prove SSS, etc. without writing it out. Thank you for your help. Cindy
  13. Has anyone used this and what do they think?
  14. I"m a homeschool mom.....ex math teacher. I taught a geometry class using this book one time and I really liked it. My own daughter will be in geometry next year and I had thought about using this text with her but I have been unable to find where I could get a copy of the student text and the teacher's text. As I remember the teacher's text had the answers right by the problem so you would need the student text also, right. Where are you getting the books? Thanks!
  15. I want to save money and I love to teach math(former engineer here). Has anyone used Teaching Textbooks with just book and answer key and not bought CDs.
  16. I'm looking for geometry choices. I just saw where Saxon has geometry. Is it good? I used Saxon thru 6th grade and have used Abeka for pre-algebra and algebra 1. I'm open to something else too...I just need ideas, opinions. Thanks! Cindy Lee:confused:
  17. In the Writing w/Ease Book 2 one of the narrations was from Pilgrim's Progress. I don't think it was the original but I liked that version and wanted to know what it was. Does anyone know? Should I write Susan? Thank you
  18. I definitely vote for logic stage writing. In my opinion, there are tons of good history programs out there for this age but the writing is really lacking and I have loved your writing program for grammar stage. Thanks, Cindy Lee
  19. Does anyone know when Susan will be getting this book out. It's the next in the series of the complete writer. It is for 5-8 grade. Thanks Cindy Lee
