  1. What exactly does that mean they keep the same percentages with the scores. Do they have certain percentage making 30 certain percentage making 25, etc? Is that what that means? Thanks
  2. If you decide to go to cc the first 2 years does that not allow you to get a scholarship your junior year to a 4 year college. Many have told me they only give the scholarships to incoming freshmen at the 4 year colleges. Very likely my oldest could go to cc for free but then if the last 2 years are with no help it will kind of defeat the savings.
  3. My oldest (tenth grade) took ACT for first time. At home she made in the mid 20s on practice test which I'd love for her first time. She came out of the real test saying the reading was really hard and didn't get to the last 10 questions of science just had to circle in stuff. I'm trying not to be so discouraged and especially let her see it because that would really worry her as she wants to do well. Can anyone encourage me or give me a swift kick in the pants?
  4. Yes, yes, yes, that is exactly right. Ballet doesn't last. Ballet teacher yes, when you want to supplement your husband's income but ballet can't be a career for financial reasons. That is why I struggle with should she even do the trainee thing for 2 years, not get chosen then go to college. Would that be wasted 2 years? Or second scenario, say, she does get chosen to be in company, that will play out I would think as she gets in her later twenties, then we're back to school. Again, would that be wasted years. See what I mean. I want what's best for her....her dreams but also realistic outcomes. Of course, what she would love to happen is do ballet for a while, marry, have children and homeschool her children but we don't know what the Lord has planned for all that.:)
  5. Yes, this would be more employer training.....not count for college courses at all. If it's true that she would still be considered for scholarships due to being a freshmen it would solve my dilemna. She's tenth grade now and will continue on with high school. They let you audition for a place in their training program your senior year. Since it's 8-3, she can't take college too, unless a night course. Thank yall for your help. Now I'm hoping she makes okay on her ACT. So many worries, so little time! Ha!!!!
  6. My daughter has done ballet all her life. She loves it. The school she goes to has a christian professional ballet company. That is what she really wants to do. It is a 2 year trainee program that you have to get accepted to(she probably would....the principal is encouraging her to do it, too). At the end of 2-3 years they either invite you to join the professional company or tell you to move one. My daughter is very bright. She is taking the ACt for the first time Saturday. She really wants to go the ballet route. I am not against it totally. I just don't want her to throw away scholarship chances. It's my understanding if you wait 2 years to go to college after high school the scholarships aren't available for you. Not sure if that's true with community college. I want to let her pursue her dreams but not do something crazy. Any advice? Am I being too much traditional route or too lenient in my direction.
  7. Trying to get geared up and not miss anything. Thought it would be fun and good to see what others are doing. I have 11th grade girl next year.
  8. Tell me what yall think of Notgrass Economics and Gov't. I'm also open to other suggestions. I'm at a loss.
  9. Hey, I have a tenth grader....junior next year. I've been using Abeka and Writing Strands. We're on WS6 fixing to start WS7. This year I skipped the Composition sections in Abeka and we just used the grammar section of Abeka. I substituted with Vocabulary of classical roots. Do you think this is okay?
  10. My 10th grade dd is preparing for the ACT by taking practice tests from the Act prep guide. Just wondering how accurate you found the practice test scores to real test scores. She's doing very well but I don't want to get my hopes too high. Thanks ladies.
  11. I need the litmus paper for chemistry lab. Where could I get it locally? I tried School aids and all they had was ph paper. Would that work? Thanks
  12. I have 5th grade twin girls. They narrate fairly well and answer in complete sentences. One of them still has trouble remembering the dictation when I read it to her 3 times. She is not a good memorizer and can't repeat it back to me. I generally go over it several times til she remembers. Any suggestions....is this important before I move on in writing. She does well writing the sentences once she can memorize them. thank you!
  13. Schools around here weigh heavily on ACT scores. Which books do yall recommend for preparing and where do you get them? Thanks
  14. I know a linear equation to first degree is written in the form Ax+B=C. And the x has to be to the first powers. Can this be a linear equation and if not please explain. 12/x=4 because you could solve this algebrically like this 12= 4x x=3 so x=3 could be in the form Ax+B=C with A=1 B=0 and C=3 Don't think this is right but need help seeing why. thanks
  15. Thank you! Trying to figure out how to fit all this in and have time for her ACT prep too! But I think yall are right. I just needed some confirmation!
  16. I want to help my 10th grade daughter on writing. If I have her do the writing assignments from World History Notgrass and do a chapter a week from the book Lively Art of Writing. Is that too much? I just can't seem to decide on this. cindy
  17. Okay, I am obsessing. I have all these and just can't decide what my daughter really needs. She is going into 10th grade. She writes fine gramatically but just okay on style, persuasive, etc. We have not done a research paper. She has written 2 page summaries. Can any of you ladies help? I am at my wit's end! Cindy
  18. We are using Notgrass World History and Abeka grammar. I was thinking about doing just the grammar section from Abeka....no composition. Doing all the writing assignments from Notgrass history. We are on writing strands 6....so starting and finishing that up by end of Novemember, then taking some weeks to read thru Elements of Style and discuss then beginning writing strands 7 to the end of year. Then eleventh grade year I could begin with Expository of Writing Strands. How does that sound? WRiting is my weakest link! I never know if I'm doing too much or not enough. Thanks!

  21. Jann, The 032122762x gives me a book that says precalculus. The isbn 032122770 gives me a solution book that says solution manual to college algebra and trig. Is this the right book? Might be there not showing entire title. Thank you so much! I am a math person(I tutor in Mississippi) and have used Saxon and Abeka and Jacobs. I ordered the Lial's algebra 2 and loved it so much I wanted to get the precalculus, too. Thanks for setting me on to this curr.
  22. I am looking for ISBN numbers for lial's precalculus book and the solutions manual. I would like an older edition that teaches it manually and graphing calculator. Thank you so much.
