  1. In the newest version, is everything from the student book in the parent book? On the website it says that it is. But it also says you need the student and parent books. Could I just buy the parent book? Or are the answers for analogies and classic words already highlighted? Thanks!

  3. Town to Voyage was an easy transition. Magic Lens level is much harder. The vocab is really difficult. My 8th grade son needed to slow it down, and then we switched to a different program. My gifted sixth grader loves learning 25 stems a week... and we do all the exercises. We still have the poetry book to do, not sure if we will do the writing book though. Magic Lens has some really good stuff in it. But the verb tenses, for instance, are quickly described and then there are pages of exercises which are just plain hard. I had to pull out a different grammar book to try to explain it better. I guess I found there just wasn't enough teaching.
  4. Yes. But Magic Lens is kind of annoying. Especially the verb tenses. Voyage is more fun.... but very similar to Town. The practice books are great though. We are currently deciding if we should do Magic Lens 2, or just the practice books.... sigh
  5. I used Visual Latin with a fifth and seventh grader. Now my younger is my gifted one.... both kids loved it. Out of the thirty lessons we got to somewhere around 25.... it was getting quite difficult at that point. We planned to continue it the next year, but, well, didn't. I keep hoping to pick it up again.
  6. Thank you, I had not looked into Mosdos! Will now!
  7. @kiwik... the site lets you use both coupons at once? 😀
  8. @Nixpix5- Thanks! That sounds great! 😀
  9. @Nixpix5... what is the the coupon bundle you got after purchase? if you don't mind.... I'm debating on a few bundles!
  10. I would only take a seven year old who is highly interested and mostly able to sit quietly in a seat for over 2 hours without whining, complaining, or actually even sleeping.... because that would be a waste lol. I've seen Wicked twice, and there were kids there, and so long as they behaved, it was a great experience. However, my kids were 10 and 12 when we took them. I believe they got more out of it. When my kids were around seven, we got annual passes to the local theatre's children productions. Each show lasted 30-45 minutes, and was perfect for them at that time.
  11. Has anyone used this? Is it worth getting? Better than EIW which was my plan for next year? Thanks!
  12. We used all three for my sons seventh grade year, on grade level. We had done some MCT before. It worked welll. And he appreciated the straightforwardness of the curriculum, compared to MCT (which my DD loves). Fwiw, for his eighth grade year we switched to Cover Story writing, Wordly Wise, along with some MCT vocab, and MCT practice grammar book. He says he learned grammar better from GWG. Hth
  13. Thank you so much! I thought it could be enough, but there seems to be such an emphasis on literary analysis nowadays, that I got worried.
  14. My 8th grade boy has found EE completely independent and painless.... he is a history loving kid, science is not his thing. But he enjoys the projects.
  15. Next year DD will be reading the literature that goes with Notgrass From Adam to Us. But I want to add more formal lit. Previously, she has done two MCT literature trilogies. I do have MCT Time trilogy and Figuratively Speaking. Would that be enough? Lightning Lit won't work as she has read most of the books in their 7th and 8th grade sets. I like the looks of EIL (Essentials in Literature), and am considering it as well. Help, please? And thank you.
  16. My son used Elemental science .... he enjoyed it. The labs were fun and doable. We did add in lots of books and How the Universe Works episodes which are amazing. I think it's set up great and very easy to add to :)
  17. Bumping..... I am considering combining EIL and EIW as well.....
  18. Growing with Grammar has that. It is called Soaring with Spelling and Vocabulary. It is pretty gentle, but might be a good complement to a rigorous writing/ grammar course.
  19. I agree that sports is out of control! However, my kids are both athletes. Ugh. So, my son - guitar playing, singer, basketball player, history buff. He at least has lots of interests, so a good balance. But my DD, 12, competitive gymnast. Yes, she started in the cute two year old class. Once a week. Over the years, that has progressed to nearly twenty hours a week for Optionals training. And yes, at five, they can start to bridge properly. But most of their backs are not mature enough of the strain, and they should be taught with bent knees, but proper form. Only as they get stronger, more mature should it look like a gymnastics bridge - which is awful to look at .... their shoulders go way over their hands. But why do we let her sport take over her life? Because she would not have it any other way. She loves it. Now if as a family you are not in the position to make this obscene commitment, do not go down the road of competitive gymnastics, no preteam, no advanced classes. Oh they both do a homeschool archery class as well. That being said, they both know the value of education. And homeschooling has allowed them to pursue their academic interests and stretch their innate abilities. But school comes first, everything else is second.
  20. Oh, that's just, sad. I guess, not surprising.
  21. Thanks! She can write a very organzied thesis driven essay. But her writing lacks maturity. It sounds young. Maybe lab reports will help. But I also don't want to go through bio with her, and assign credit if I don't think her lab reports are high school level. But maybe they will be. Who knows? Honestly, even if she doesn't technically do biology next year, she will be shouting out the answers to her older brother when he gets stumped. So, it would benefit him to have them do it together. Up until yesterday she wanted to do Ellen mchenrys Mapping the body with art, along with reading books, videos, whatever lab kits we are willing to buy... and writing up all that in her science journal. Sigh.
