  1. Thanks Targhee... I don’t want to let the curriculum rule our lives.... I will stop at least for the summer..... maybe if I go through it I can decide what to pick. Idk. Thank you!
  2. Alisoncooks..... no it’s not a bad curriculum. DD actually picked it out herself.... and doesn’t mind doing it. It doesn’t even take all that much time a day. We just prioritized other things more.... DD has 20 hours a week of gymnastics, and does a once a week co-op which has some homework. Geometry, Biology and Czech get done first since they are high school classes. History was next to get done. Greek and French also got pushed to the side. Writing and literature is one of her coop classes, so we pushed our own English aside. Truthfully, we had planned way too much.
  3. Thank you for your thoughts. I haven’t mentioned anything to my DD... as far as she is concerned she is finishing EIL , it’s just a matter of when. ?
  4. Thank you. ? I don’t plan to buy the next level... but , when I really like a curriculum and it is a good fit , I do continue along with it. I will look through it to see what concepts are covered that we haven’t gotten to yet. I think we actually did more like 45-50% , not 25%.... I had forgotten that we skipped around a bit. Thanks!
  5. EKS..... ?Thanks! That helps! DD writes very well. I feel like there is such a push for understanding literature, and literary analysis nowadays.... and don’t want to mess that up. I much prefer to read and discuss..... and throw in some literary terms . Thanks.
  6. Thank you! To clarify a bit, we actually do school year round..... but in the summer we stick to math, foreign language, and reading. And whatever they want to do. But I do stop other curriculum. Also, high school level stuff continues until it is done. Even if that means my high schooler will be doing it all summer ?
  7. Thank you so much.... I dislike wasting money on curriculum I don’t use..... and I detest wasting time too. ? time is an issue here.... with 20 hours a week of competitive gymnastics practice. DD would be happiest to do lots of science and math, crafts/projects and read books .... but I don’t want to miss anything vital.
  8. Keep plugging through it all summer? continue it next year? call it done, and move on? currently Essentials in Literature 7 is my issue..... we only got about a quarter of the way through it. We like it just fine. But I really don’t want to continue it next year. My DD reads a lot. A whole lot. She devours books...... not sure what to do.....
  9. Thanks Another Lynn..... I will go look up that book! I wish there weren’t so few review out there on Byline.... it is so very expensive...
  10. Thank you.... I have used quite a few writing programs. And literature programs. But I always feel stifled. And tweak them, a lot. We use literature guides orally. When we read and discuss I feel like they get so much more out of it. And are able to write better because of it. But my son likes video lessons...... he likes to replay them while working on an assignment. He wants to do Byline.... which is mostly history based apparently. He loves history. He reads slowly. I guess it’s me who wants more freedom...... and he is going into tenth grade.... next year he will decide if he wants to dual enroll or not.... so I want him ready, just in case. My younger DD reads quickly, too quickly... and reads a lot. But she likes creating her own projects.
  11. As I am obsessing over curricular choices for next year (10th and 8th graders), I am vacillating between buying a formal curriculum, using individual literature guides, or just have them read (keep a commonplace bookj discuss, and write. We will work on timed essays either way. Any words of wisdom as to how to decide? Thanks
  12. Bumping my post..... just incase..... i had planned to use Dr Wile’s Discovering Design with Chemistry. Would anyone know if I can use the text, without doing any labs.... since full labs would be done at co-op? Thank you
  13. Has anyone used this? Our co-op may be offering it as a chemistry lab next year. Thoughts? Reviews? What would be good to add to it to make an honors chemistry class? Thanks!
  14. Thank you 2 girls mommy! Thats very helpful!
  15. Garga.... thank you! That is a completely different type of assignment. I really had not considered doing something so creative. Thank you!
  16. My son is finishing up EIW 9 this year. It covers typical high school level essay writing and a research report. We opted for the Grading Servcie... which has made my son more accountable! He likes it. His only real complaint is that the essay prompts are silly.
  17. EKS.... thank you so much for your response. That’s brilliant! I think he would really enjoy doing that. We do use primarily conservative materials, but we read, discuss, debate opposing viewpoints as well, which would lend itself perfectly to your summary/ response suggestion! Thank you!
  18. Thank you so very much everyone! You have all been so very helpful ?
  19. My son said it takes anywhere between 1-2 hours. He is kind of slow though. Ok, really slow
  20. My kids loved Cover Story.... it is scheduled for something like three times a week for 24- weeks. We did find it to be more time consuming then we thought it would be. But that was mostly because of what/ how much my kids chose to write for each assignment. We took most of the year to finish it. My friends IRL who have used it did not finish in one year. But that is all time management and choices.
  21. Thanks, Lynne... he wants to do ByLine for English... which seems to be historical writing. And has some way of getting a half credit of History with additional assignments.... it looks like a lot of writing. But idk yet. If only do two papers technically for history (with the quizzes and exam from Hillsdale ) if that enough? How long would be proper for tenth grade? My head thinks 8-10 pages..... but I’m guessing that’s too long.
