  1. I know that it's hard, you're tired and emotionally drained BUT you only get this opportunity ONCE...your children will never be this age again. Before you all start flaming me: 12 years ago, I was a career woman on the "high road" to a "big-time" bank manager's position. My children were in daycare and PS more than they were home. When they were home, it was dinner, homework, shower and bed -- we had absolutely NO family time. And because I was "career-minded", I missed most of my 2 older children's formative years. It took a MAJOR event with daycare to open my eyes that I'm the best care provider and teacher for my children. Since we've started homeschooling (6+ years ago), I have a much better relationship with my children. We *LOVE* being together and miss each other when we're apart. Yes, the Jr. High and Sr. High courses are a little tougher -- but it is SO worth it. I've learned TONS more homeschooling than I ever learned in PS...
  2. Not in this house -- it's my two youngest. :glare: According to them, they're NEVER at fault...
  3. Liquid soap -- I like the Pamered Chef soap pump. You dilute the soap with water and when you pump the nozzle, it turns the soap solution into foam. I find that a huge refill bottle lasts a really long time and you don't get the soap scum build up with liquid soap that you get with most bar soaps.
  4. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 12 years ago and have NEVER had my doctor offer a diet -- she just started pushing BC, which I refused. I'm curious about the insulin thing, though. I have NEVER, NEVER had a high insulin reading. (if anything, it's the other way -- when I went into the ob/gyn for a sugar test, after drinking the nasty orange syrup, my blood sugar was 50 something!!) I can tell you that when I've tried cutting out carbs/sugar/etc and caffeine, I feel like crap for a few days and then start to feel better. My cycle regulates and things go smoothly. BUT, I've never been able to lose more than 5 - 10 lbs.
  5. :iagree: and I'm a little "disturbed" that pqr would suggest some are lying...
  6. :iagree: LG - I would STRONGLY caution you against bringing this "drama" into your home...it will affect you, your spouse, and your child/ren...there is NO way around it. I've BTDT with my MIL -- we are in the process of "kicking her out". It is not fun -- it was NOT a decision we came to easily. :grouphug:
  7. :iagree: My middle child was sexually abused at daycare...that was 10 years ago and we still deal with the consequences almost daily.
  8. We have a young Barred Rock Cross and he just starting being aggressive this past week. He actually chased my son around the house!!:glare: I've since explained that running will only make it worse the next time... Since then, we've decided to carry a walking stick with us when we go out to the coop. I read somewhere that you need to show them that you're the boss -- get the upper hand on them, if you will. (kind of like establishing dominance with a dog, etc.) Once you've done that, you should be all set...
  9. I wouldn't go "cold turkey" on the caffeine...I would suggest going 1/2 then weaning off slowly. Do you have a BP cuff? I would try checking it once or twice a day and keep a log of the readings. You may find that decreasing the caffeine will lower your BP and you may not need the meds. Another thing to keep in mind is that diuretics mess with your potassium level...you should probably try to drink OJ or eat a banana daily to keep your potassium level up.
  10. I was not abused in any way, shape or form by my parents. However, my husband suffered emotional abuse and neglect as a young child. He was left alone at the age of 8 to get himself up, ready for school, and out the door for the bus. Then, he came home to an empty house in the afternoon -- and was expected to entertain himself until his mother got home from work. During the summer break, he was left alone ALL DAY!! He tells me that he was expected to stay out of her way most of the time...unless she needed him for something. When his mother remarried, his step-father didn't like him and was not a friendly guy. They would go out to eat and leave my husband home...not even invite him to go!! I am SO blessed that the LORD got a hold of my husband's heart during his college years and he is a wonderful GODLY husband and father. He is very determined not to repeat the cycle.
  11. :iagree: Probably going to "put my foot in it" -- please NO flames -- but I don't think that celebrating Christmas and Birthdays can be equated/compared with celebrating Halloween...
  12. I was born with CURLY hair -- a full head of thick, curly hair. (and my oldest daughter inherited the same -- at the present time, her hair is down to her waist :001_smile:) I have found the more you handle it, the frizzier it gets. LESS is more... I do not use a traditional comb...I have a plastic pick with wide teeth that are alternating length. I use it in the shower to distribute conditioner, then I rinse it and use it when I get out to distribute curl cream. I would not recommend a blow dryer unless you use a diffuser, and then I would only use it occasionally. I only use salon products designed for curly hair and/or moisturizing. (OTC products are NOT your friend...BTDT multiple times.)

  14. I really like the NLT for studying...this is how it reads: "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure." 1 Corinthians 10:13 I agree with the previous posters that said that fear is NOT from God...if you're fearful and anxious then you need to keep praying and seeking an answer...it may be "yes", it may be "no"...it might even be "not right now".
  15. I was just thinking about this same thing...only my son is 10! :001_huh: His cursive is BEAUTIFUL -- much neater and more pretty than both of his older sisters. However, his printing leaves a little bit to be desired. I'll be waiting to see what is suggested...
  16. :iagree: It happened to me also...I graduated 8th in a class of over 200 students and couldn't pull a "C" in Western Civ:confused:
  17. Does his card have the "Visa" or "Mastercard" logo on it? If so, it is a debit card and can be used online just like a credit card. If it does NOT have one of those logos, it is probably an ATM card that only works in an ATM machine -- with a pin.
  18. Sorry about being so long getting back to you... Cathy Duffy gave BF an EXCELLENT review... I used CBD to look at sample pages of the TM and then I used BF's website to research booklists, etc. BF has THE BEST prices on total packages!! If there is anything else you want to know, feel free to PM me... Thanks!
  19. Basically, there isn't much difference between the DE and the Redesigned print copy...there are only two that I can think of: 1) the DE is searchable...you just type the item/topic into the search bar and it will show you everywhere that topic appears. (vs thumbing through pages in the print copy) 2) the DE is upgradeable...as books go out of print, the booklist, assignment charts and worksheets get automatically updated. (vs. checking the Loom Disk for updates OR trying to find the OOP book) That being said, unless you can find the Redesigned print copy used, they are NO LONGER AVAILABLE through Lampstand Press...unless you buy the DE and pay extra for the printing service.
  20. I bought some Avery Transfer Paper at Wal-Mart...I designed a logo and printed the transfer using my printer. Then ironed it on a shirt... Just remember -- your lettering has to be done "backwards" so it appears correctly on the tshirt. ;)
  21. schools would be dropping it... as my aunt, who is a gifted and talented teacher in a PS, uses Saxon. She LOVES it, the students get it and have done very well in competitions both locally and nationally.
  22. This is an AWESOME idea!! (My mother took an old dresser and fixed it up for her kitchen...I liked the idea so much that now I'm on the hunt for an old dresser for my kitchen.) I think an island should be a comfortable working height -- maybe slightly higher than your waist? As far as the overhang, I would think around 10" would be good. (that's the amount of overhang I have on my permanent island with bar stools)
