  1. For previous years, even with the four day schedule, some things were still five days. Then last year they tried smoothing everything from the five day schedule into four days, though reading and LA, etc were still five days. Sounds like this is a completely reworked four day schedule. 2. I'm considering this one from the Thinking Tree. https://www.amazon.com/Make-Your-Timeline-World-History/dp/1517093651/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484625399&sr=8-1&keywords=Sarah+janisse+timeline+book Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. My 7 and 9 year olds have been enjoying Pictures in Cursive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I don't think I've seen Clifford mentioned. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I'm not sure if it's still there, but 6 or 7 years ago starfall.com had free letter worksheets that you could print. They were basic tracing the letter, circling all the letters, etc. I like schoolzone workbooks as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. I don't think I've seen Explode the Code mentioned. There is a set of three books that are pre-reading. They are Get Ready for the Code, Get Set for the Code, and Go for the Code. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. The baby most often is napping during school time, but not always. Also my DH just started a new job this week and is now working evenings, so we are trying to figure out our new daily routine. If it's not the baby, it's checking on the kindergartener's work and telling her what to do, or some other completely random thing. She does have a desk in her bedroom that she could use, and she did for a week or so, but of course she would rather be with the rest of us. She really does fairly well with math and is capable of working independently. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. She did well test-wise with CLE, never scoring below 90. But she disliked the long lessons. If she did her work diligently, it would only take 20-30 minutes. If she dawdled and whined it took an hour or two. Yeah, I'm considering going back to CLE, but I'm also wondering what else is out there that would possibly work better. I do work orally with her sometimes, but she is the oldest child of five, with two others that are school age, so she has to be independent as much as possible. I will have to try this. It should never have taken two hours. The one page I told her she could do the odd problems, and the other page was a handful of word problems. She could have done it in 20-30 minutes if she wasn't constantly playing with her baby brother and just plain not doing her work. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. My daughter has completed CLE 100-200 Math, and then was in public school last year. This year she is doing Strayer-Upton, but she does not like copying out the problems. She has now been sitting here for two hours working on a single page. The work is not too hard. When she just does it, she does very well. I'm not convinced yet that I need to switch, but I am considering it. If I would switch, it would need to be inexpensive, and also available in Canada. So give me your recommendations for fourth grade math. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Does he know letter sounds? I would let him watch Leapfrog Letter Factory and Talking Words Factory. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Get some cuisenaire rods and let her watch the videos at educationunboxed.com.
  12. My daughter is in second grade and we started from the beginning, so I have her do several pages a day. I always look ahead to see how much work is on each page and then decide how many pages I want her to do. Some pages are quite quick and some take longer.
  13. Thanks! I passed all this info on to her. If I didn't have five of my own kids (oldest in grade four and youngest three months old) I would love to take on the job of teaching him. Unfortunately I'm busy enough as it is.
  14. Cool, thanks! We are in Canada, so I'm not sure we can do it, but he will still enjoy the practice stuff.
  15. Thanks! I will pass those suggestions along to my sister.
  16. An example that my sister gave me yesterday... He just did a test (contest maybe?) in school. It was a thirty minute test with thirty questions. The teacher told them that the brightest kids usually don't quite finish the test, and often get some questions wrong. My nephew told his mom that he finished the test in ten minutes with zero mistakes. Now of course, it is possible that he embellished a bit, but not necessarily.
  17. Last school year he was involved in a after school online program. He was competing against high school students. Otherwise I'm not sure that his teachers have ever been able to challenge him in math.
  18. My nephew is in grade 6 in public school, but capable of high school level math. My sister would love to homeschool him, but it just isn't possible. If she was able to give him a program to work on after school, what would you suggest?
  19. CLE has some diagramming resources here: https://www.clp.org/store/by_course/132. Perhaps they would help.
  20. For the language arts I suggest looking at CLE rather than LifePacs. They are similar, but CLE is so much nicer to use. Also, make sure your child takes placement tests for math and language arts. Homeschool materials do not often follow what children learn in public school. Math and language arts are subjects where children can't just jump ahead.
  21. We just bought two kids desks from Ikea. They are height adjustable, so I'm hoping they last a long time! There are three younger ones coming up yet, so I'm sure they will get plenty of use.
  22. There are also directions for some of the pages. There will be a page with a bunch of pictures and it will say "circle the picture that..." or "Colour the picture red that..."
  23. You could get the first book or two of Miquon along with cuisenaire rods. The videos at educationunboxed.com are quite helpful as well.
  24. I would contact CLE and see if they can help you out, as that is copyrighted info.
