  3. Hi, everyone, Mrs. Upperman has decided to take a break from teaching in order to take care of her family. We were waiting to have all our science instructors lined up before we announced the change. We certainly didn't meant to cause any frustration or confusion. Emails were sent to all families signed up for Mrs. Upperman's 2018-19 courses today. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact me directly at julia@welltrainedmind.com Thank you again for your understanding and patience. Warmly, Julia Kaziewicz Collier WTMA Dean

  9. The Well-Trained Mind Academy is now wrapping up its second successful academic year! We've increased our class offerings, brought on incredible new instructors, and our students are so excited that they are meeting on their own outside of classes to write plays and attend science fairs. To keep up this momentum we are looking to expand our learning community by reaching out to co-ops and homeschool groups; we'd love to tell them more about our courses and tutoring options. If you are in a co-op or homeschool group, or you know of a co-op or homeschool group near you, please consider sending me, Dean Kaziewicz, a personal message that includes the name and contact email for the group. I will send a welcome email to the group that includes information about our school, upcoming courses, and an invitation to join The Well-Trained Mind Academy's mailing list. Thank you all so much for your consideration!
  10. German I covers what a traditional introductory high school or middle school class covers. Some students begin language instruction in middle school (especially those who continue on to prepare for the Advanced Placement German exam), so we've indicated that German I is a middle school offering because we've designated the course for grades 7-11. The material is appropriate for high schoolers, and we hope to see your freshman student in German next year!
  11. We are adding the following classes to our middle school offerings: SOTW Early Modern Time SOTW Modern Age Introduction to Music Theory & Appreciation for the Logic Stage (Full-year course) French I German I Classes will be posted for preview during the week of Feb. 1!
  12. We will be offering AOPS Pre-algebra, AOPS Algebra I, AoPS Geometry, and AOPS Algebra II. I hope one of these classes fits!
  13. I'm sorry that you are having trouble! Please email me directly and we can sort things out. Send over a screen shot of what you see and we'll go from there. julia@welltrainedmind.com
  14. We have removed "Basic" from the title. The classes we offer are U.S. History and Advanced U.S. History (supplement to the regular course to prepare students for the AP exam). Report cards and grade certificates will reflect the updated names. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
  15. I just asked our AoPS math teachers to look over your question and send a response. More soon!
  16. Our 2016-17 registration will open in February. We are working on the schedule now. If you have a specific question about timing, please email us at Info@wtmacademy.com
  17. All AoPS classes are full for the 2015-16 school year. However, not only will we be offering AoPS Pre-Algebra and Algebra I for 2016-17, we will also be opening sections of AoPS Geometry and Algebra II!
  18. Hello! Yes, we are still offering AoPS--I don't know what happened to all our AoPS course listings! This is a website glitch. We are on it! Until then, here is the syllabus for AoPS Pre-Algebra https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mNah4RnDAg1p_QjtaYIYg7QXtj4deBd-ol8E_zwpmbI/edit?usp=sharing and the syllabus for AoPS Algebra 1 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bar66AI7jhbs7paOiFw9fw3KfGTxitaekfYwKYE-clM/edit?usp=sharing
  19. Yes, parents can access assignments through "My Grades." When a parent wants to view the comments on an assignment, he/she can select "View Attempt" or "View Grade Details" and then choose "View Attempt." Here is a tutorial on YouTube to help with viewing and downloading assignments and comments: View, Download, and Print Feedback on Graded Paper in Blackboard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkX-QDw6tgI If you are using Apple Preview, you will still choose to download the assignment and click on "Download Annotated PDF." The file will go to your downloads folder. When you open the file, you will see marks - highlights or red marks. If you double click on any mark, the comment will pop up where you have double clicked. ADDITIONAL NOTE: If a student's submission was pasted into the text box, there will be no comments to download. Blackboard pairs with a technology called Crocodoc which allows teachers to write/post line comments on word docs or PDFs. If an assignment is pasted into the text box, a teacher can only use a rubric and/or the comments box to provide feedback.
  20. Downloading and viewing comments on assignments graded in Blackboard: If the student wants to download a document, he/she can click on the download button that appears at the top left of the submission. In order to see instructor comments in the printed version, the student should choose “Download annotated PDF.” Choose the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader when prompted and then choose to save the document to the computer or open it immediately. When the student does open the document, the comments made will show up in boxes on the document. If the comments cover the student’s writing, they can be moved by dragging them out of the way. The comments can also be minimized by clicking on the box in the right hand corner of the comment. The comment markers appear as red marks on the document. Clicking on the marker will bring the comment back. To print the document with comments click on the print menu or icon. On the print screen, look for the summarize comments button. After you click the summarize comments button, choose the layout called “ document and comments with sequence numbers on separate pages.” This option marks the place of the comments in the paper with numbers and creates a list of of all the comments with corresponding numbers following the body of the paper when it is printed. Let us know how it goes!
  21. Yes! Students can join year-long courses with room for additions at the start of the spring semester. We will be announcing spring registration in November.
