  1. Yes I watched the two recent ones. Boring would best describe it. There doesn't seem to be anything to record. They made the first set of this new spin off real dramatic with Anna. That seems to have run out. I dont know if this can continue. Hope the family can accept their time is coming to an end and find a way to support and simply be family. It will be hard for the kids I am sure.
  2. Yes. My mother sounds like the same as yours. It is so difficult to pray. Sending prayers for your family. Let your dear mother know she may go. That can help at times.
  3. Well this has made me want to try a cup ;)
  4. This is an area that should be addressed more. Those that are in poverty know the struggle. These things arent often found in food pantries (at least not my area) or food stamps or wic. Hard to find when desperate. When youve had to use old shirts to make rags then the struggle is real! As soon as I could afford nice cloth pads I got them so I wouod never run out.
  5. Thanks for the thoughts. I looked at BRT and the first few weeks and it did seem like it would be easy to slow down. I just didnt want to rush through the whole Bible.
  6. Comparisions? This would be for K. But I want a plan to stick with. I like that Bible Road Trip is free that is a big plus! But three years seems like it moves fast. I keep hearing great things about BSGFAA though.
  7. Not as an alarm but in case it hasnt crossed your mind incognito searches probably mean he has been looking at porn. If I were in your shoes all access to technology would be cut quick and a talk over many days about porn and sex etc. This can cause a lot of behavior issues with kids. Secondly, I dont know your religion, but most faiths have moral teachings. Pullout times to just focus on your faith one on one with dad if possible. Pray, learn scripture about specific areas etc. Read some books together that dealsith lying, cheating etc not overtly preachy books but ones that show life. I agree with much that has already been said. Dont give up he is still young!
  8. Yes if the parent knows how to teach. Not meaning that rude, but one needs to know how to teach to read and spell and then one could easily use the Bible. One needs to know how to teach writing and cooy work and easily use the Bible then. It would be more work for sure but it could easily be taken day by day topic by topic. The bible would also easily provide means to science and history topics to search at a library.
  9. Hydrogen peroxide, scrub in dawn dishsoap over that and then scrub baking soda over it.
  10. Wondering if there are any thoughts or experiences? There are aspects I enjoy about Waldorf, however I dont like the whole package. I am looking at pulling some of the things that appeal to me- the art, drawing and movement to help learn lessons. And I love the music and handwork. Wondering if it would be worth it to buy curriculum from Christophers to help me in those areas.
  11. Your story hour is what we like. But it depends on what you want moral stories with Biblical application? Then Odessy. But if you want stories from the Bible Your Story Hour is better.
  12. Looking for a picture book on the Biblical story of Easter. We really enjoy King in a Stable by Jenny Robertson for Christmas anything out there like this for Easter? We like hugh quality art for picture books. Looking for something to last us years of reading.
  13. I feel this family just needs quiet. I loved and regularly watched the show, but I find this very unwise for the whole family. My first thought honestly was is this wise for Jill as a missionary in an area that has been unsafe to disclose? I know most missionaries would be advised to not do this. As well as missions work is very demanding on all areas of life. But they seem to just be doing their own thing without much from an organization or authority.
  14. Yes I like the idea of adding it as it enriches other studies or pulling other studies from the poem.
  15. Thanks for the thoughts. We live in Turkey so my son has ample time to develop his Turkish. We will be working on reading once we get english reading down. I think I may lay aside Latin. I just hear so much about the benefits that I get tempted. And I think French will be our foreign language fof academics. And just work over the years building skills. Thanks
  16. Yes I do know finding what works in our family is best! That is part of the reason I like to read a lot of books on methods and ideas and then take and use what resonates with me best. I do like this thought about long epic poems just trying to think through how to apply it. Cause I just cant see Hiawatha going well over here!
  17. So in spending time thinking through this all I've been wondering some things so please help me think this through Would a longer piece to memorize replace other memory wwork? We currently do short Bible verses, and short poems. Would this need totake the place of short poems? Wondering if it would be beneficial to pick an epic poem to go along with what we are learning in history. Pulling more learning together. Hiawatha just seems too big to tackle first in my mind. Maybe I am not brave enough yet- I dont know. But would memorizing the song of Moses and Miriam (Exodus 15) be an epic poem of sorts? It would follow what I have planned for k. Or is there a better chunk of scripture? I do really like the though of one poem a year instead of choosing many shorter ones to learn.
  18. I once went to a baby shower where alcohol was served! That one surprised me. However I have been to many kids parties where beer was served.
  19. Ok I am at the beginning of our homeschool journey and thinking through our course. My son is bilingual. I am still struggling to learn language. I have decided to work through Latin with school. I would like him to learn another language like French as a formal learned language. And work towards fluency in French as much as possible. However, I also like the idea of lightly learning Hebrew and Greek for Bible study. I know many places people learn many languages. I however dont have knowledge of all these other ones. Am I planning too big? Too many languages? Or have othersucessfully taught many? I know it is easier to learn more once you have one down. Is Latin as beneficial as all seem to say?
  20. So because I saw this post I took my weekend to look into EFL. Wow! Hiawatha at 5 seems like so much more work than I would have even thought for that age! Has anyone been able to follow her poem suggestions? I just can't see that as an easy task. Anyone know of a blog that follows her methods? I feel like I need to get a better picture of what this looks like in 2016. I do really appreciate her thoughts on building the foundation firmly. I tend to want to push acedemics earlier than I should, but stopping to think through the foundation is good. I need to spend time working on focus, following directions and chores this year with my son. I like her thoughts on not pushing reading so much. I just recently reviewed the Teaching the Trivium and I always wonder how to read 2 hours a day! Just doesnt happen here! But reading EFL gave a good remnder that humans were smart before books and the mind can be built through memory. Just wondering if I could pull it off! Need to see what it looks like today.
  21. What do you use for yoga and midline exercises? Also what type of finger and hand exercises do you use?
  22. Ok- I have seen this mentioned here recently. Looking at it I am wondering a few things. What makes this so amazing? Is this offering more than just picking songs ourselves to learn? I like the looks of it. I just cant tell if it worth buying or if we would easily be able to make it ourselves.
  23. Wow! Just looked at Don Potters page. What a resource thank you! As I have been goigling Ive come across so e Waldorf books that seem to be a little of what I was thinking on block drawing. I might see if that is a fit for us.
