  1. Well we have a permanent address in the states for taxes, banking etc. We use my dad's address. But we don't really have a permanent place. We rent in whichever country we find ourselves in. Current country we will be returning to has no education laws regarding homeschooling. I guess I feel safer being more proactive, than following a place that has no regulation......
  2. I only had issues in Hungary. Everywhere else we have been has been fine with my swim wear. Ds and dh have not able able to wear swim shirts everywhere.
  3. For those of you who are homeschooling as expats how do you keep records? Our host country has no oversight of homeschooling. So no reporting or records. We often spend time back in the states. We are back for six months, three are during the school year. As far as I have found my state just requires certain hours a year. Should I register with my state even though we will only be stateside until November? How should I keep records so that if ds ever attends a b&m school he can? Do you keep up with standardized testing to keep records of progessing learning? Ds is finishing up kindergarten, so next year he would need to be registered with my state. I thought of just keeping a list of books read, field trips, and curriculum used. How does that sound?
  4. Loves those shorts! I need new stuff as mine is well worn I may buy those. As a funny aside. I currently use swim skirt and rash guard top. Dh and ds wear rash guard top. When we were vacationing in Europe our hotel asked us to not wear clothes in the pool. We said these were our swimwear. Yeah I am not comfortable in Speedos!
  5. We had a very busy weekend. So today the whole family is doing nothing. The house is a mess, but I am not lifting a finger. Take out for dinner, and Netflix all day. Yep all day my ds is happy mom doesn't care today.
  6. For years I have lost energy in the middle of the day after lunch. I am an introvert. I get tired of the noise and talking. I get physically tired too. I have always been able to and enjoy naps. I am not overweight. I walk a lot, about 3 miles a day. As far as I know I have no issues with thyroid or other health concerns. I am in my late 30s, but I was like this even in my teens and 20s. Any ideas to help get a boost of energy?
  7. Did you just go through the work each day? Or how did you review it? Part of what I want through CC stuff is that it is in CDs and easy that way.
  8. Anyone use the CC memory work cds for use at home? We don't have a community close, and I don't want that anyways. I figure at home I could pick the parts we like and make connections to what we are learning. I am using VP for history so I have that timeline song instead. So is the other stuff worth it? Just wondering if the guide book is helpful for home use. Does the memory work seem like too much or just right? Worth it for home use or does it feel pointless without the community? Thanks.
  9. Well I have seen other signs that raise concerns. But sometimes it just is a feeling you know? And well I tend to go back and forth in my head.
  10. I did tell her what happened when the boys were over. She didn't seem bothered. But she was picking them up and only over for a short time. She was talking to me and saying how the boys pee in their room. But again not in a concerned way, and found it funny somewhat.
  11. I think the US will see big changes in the homeschool world at each state and possibly nation wide. I think the use of online schooling and classes will have a big change in regulations and people sticking it out in homeschooling too. It seems homeschooling is so common now. But I think there are many who want "easy" and will bail when the work load gets harder.
  12. I need some audio recommendations for car rides. Memory work, audio books, music appreciation, anything else. My son is 6. Thanks!
  13. Each lesson looks to be long! Wondering how many lessons people get through in a week? Trying to plan how long a book will take us.
  14. Looking for some been there, done that advice. The primary years (k-2) what would do differently than you did? I often see people say emphasize the 3r. And just get reading well down. And then I see someone say give them a big variety of learning and experiences. And some say memorize as much as the kid can.
  15. Taking the week off of school. Getting stuff ready for garage sale. Which is a lot of work! Going through stuff that have sat for a few years. Call bank Laundry Take a long walk with family. Trying to get out in the nice weather this week. We have a routine for 2.5 miles that we like to do every few days.
  16. We took pictures of large furniture and posted on fb to sell those specifically. Group together as much as possible. And I didn't price each little thing. Just bigger things. I have only priced low to sell everything each time we move.
  17. We did short school this morning. Dentist for ds (no cavities!). Lazy afternoon. This weekend we are having a low key Saturday planned of just being outside. Probably ride bikes or take a long walk. Sunday we are traveling to visit a church not too far. Then the international fair in our city.
  18. Well I kinda get to live where I want..... I have lived in many amazing cities and countries. But if money wasn't an issue at all I would move every 6 months to a year to a new country. Europe is nice for short visits like 6 months. Middle East is great to live in. I have always wanted to live in Australia or New Zealand. I wouldn't be able to pick one place stay.
  19. A former student of mine had this happen after the vax. She spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Now faints often and has incapacitating pain. She is 18 now and the doctors don't think this will change.
  20. Thanks that helps me understand the point. He understands the concept just can't call the number bonds out. So I think we will work a while on these.
  21. We started Singapore US 1a a few weeks ago. I am not seeing a difference in number bonds and addition facts. How are these different to learn? The HIG says to stay on number bonds until they are mastered, but isn't that mastering addition facts? We have used Miquon Orange and 1/4 of red. If I put a rod out my ds can find all the rods that make number bonds. Is this enough or should he be able to say them without the rods before moving on? He just turned 6 btw.
  22. At 6 years old now yes. But not at a trampoline park.
  23. We just flew 15 hours. Ds stayed up watching movies the whole flight, and ended up falling asleep the last ten minutes! He was awake 21 hours! I had to walk a cranky 5 year old to luggage pick up and he slept on a bag! The struggle was real. I couldn't carry him and push luggage!
  24. Turkish Air offers movies, video games for each seat. Kids get a bag of toys and sometimes an activity magazine. Food is great too. It is rated #1 worldwide for a reason !
