  1. I'll ask him if he'll consider Medieval Lit . Medieval Lit sounds good! Maybe we'll also look into Classical Studies with Composition and/or Traditional logic via Memoria Press. Or Lit of the Ancient World & Expository Writing/Rhetoric via WTM academy.
  2. DS is a rising senior. He already took AP English Literature and Language. He's doing a senior thesis next spring for graduation. What other English courses can he take? I want him to have four years of English and prepare for college next year. It doesn't help English is his least favorite subject.
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard AP classes aren't counted until high school.
  4. No, you have to choose one. Avoid GED if possible. Can she graduate early?
  5. DS is a senior this year. I finally got this homeschool stuff down, well almost. He took the SAT in the spring, and wants to take the ACT in the fall. He feels like it might be easier to take. He's currently looking into schools including schools out of the country, but still can't decided on where he wants to go. We're working on his senior schedule. Don't know what English courses to take since he already completed AP English Lit and Language.
  6. Is the ACT easier than the SAT? My son wants to take the ACT because he feels like its easier than the SAT. He took the SAT in the spring.
  7. DD took algebra 2 and pre calculus with him. Mr. Owens was very helpful and answers all questions in a timely matter. He's always there if you need help.
  8. There's no harm in trying. She can always go back to homeschool if she doesn't like public school.
  9. DD went to a horrible high school. She's a smart kid but when you're in a classroom with kids who don't want to be there it's difficult to learn. She transferred in 10th grade to a better school but they were very unorganized since it was a new school. On top of that moving from home to home made it hard to stay focus. She told me she was burned out and miserable. Her grades started slipping. She was the one that brought up online school & homeschooling. I had no information about homeschooling. The thought of dd just staying at home all day was unappealing. I looked into Catholic schools for her. Catholic schools in my area accept students after 9/10 grade. Enrolling in a Catholic school would also be acceptable by her caseworker over homeschooling. (Foster kids in my state can't be home schooled) She finished out her 10th grade year at public school. She started 11th grade at another school closer to home. During this time her adoption was finalized and we had an offer to a Catholic high school. Long story short in December of her junior year I pulled her out and we started homeschooling. DD has done really well with homeschooling. She graduates next week! DS attend a private school. Between extracurriculars, school, hw, and actually getting sleep was difficult. He saw DD being able to sleep in and make a schedule that fits her needs he asked if he can be homeschooled too. So I pulled him out during 10th grade. He graduates next year!
  10. DD doesn't want a party. She will go to graduation and prom set up by the seniors/parents at our co-op. I'm also planning a graduation rose ceremony with a nice dinner with close family members and friends.
  11. I agree. Which is why so many NYC kids from these schools get into college and have to take remedial courses. All the high school cares about are the tests and graduating them. Sad.
  12. The charters are just as worse. My younger daughter enrolled in HSA (Harlem success academy) I thought wow this is a good school. They're always in the media about their test scores and how they rank. I soon realized how many lies they put out. That's they care about is testing. Their teacher turnover rate is high. They pick on and weed out kids with ieps.
  13. Well dd is a senior and graduating. I'm planning on getting a banquet of roses(white or yellow) with ribbons, giving a small speech with , and then cutting the ribbons to symbolize moving on and opening a new chapter in her life. She likes this idea. I also think we might go to six flags again. That seems to stick with out tradition :)
