  1. For a high school student, I would not attempt myself or suggest to others to put high school kids through American History in one semester. Government, yes, but not history. If you're not comfortable teaching Amer. History with whole books, there's nothing wrong with finding a decent text and going with it. I can't post it right now but I have several main resources to use for both subjects. I'll try and post them later but if you don't see it by this evening, post me a reminder on the board.
  2. Thanks, Eliana. This is great! I'll safe your information for when I'm ready to make purchases. And it was my own fault that you misunderstood. I wasn't explaining well, what I was wanting.
  3. Thanks guys. Reason I wanted an anthology was not for homeschooling but more for a lit overview for myself. Then I could draw ideas from it to read whole books. And I really wanted to see the works mentioned in chronological order to make it easier for me to follow the Russian history as I read.
  4. Karen, I've used-- Prentice Hall and Norton. I found my 3 PH texts for little or nothing from a homeschool used book sale. I have their World Lit, American Lit and British Lit. The study questions and writing assignments in these texts are excellent for high school. Now if you want the "big guns"--- I received 20% off the B&N reg retail price at our local store for a 6-vol set of Norton World Lit. Very cool set. For study material I had to snail-mail a written request to Norton for the 2-vol te set that went with it. Wonderful, wonderful questions, esp the essay variety.
  5. Jean, I will keep your family in my prayers.
  6. It shouldn't be a problem unless your ds doesn't have the necessary prerequisites for each of the sciences. One of my dd's took two math classes simultaneously in high school. This semester she's taking two Poli-Sci classes in college. (She's majoring in Poli-Sci.)
  7. We used Great Source at home. In fact, it was so good that my dd used it to help her through her CC Gov't course, where they used an awful text.
  8. Surely, somebody must be familiar with caring for oil paintings.
  9. Just purchased an oil painting yesterday from our local "starving artist" sale. Knowing little about oil paintings I'm assuming that it needs to be framed without glass over it. If that's correct, why should we not cover oil paintings? And if we aren't to cover them, what's the best way to keep them dust free and clean? Thanks...
  10. Anyone? Even if you only pack a messenger bag with things that you need to do while in waiting rooms and such. What items do you keep in it?
  11. Does anyone have "Flylady's Office in a Bag" along with her "My Control Journal"? http://www.flylady.net/pages/FlyShop_BOIB.asp Is it all that convenient to use? If you don't use this, what do you use to keep stuff together so you can carry it around while running errands and make good use of your spare time while in waiting rooms or where ever you find yourself waiting? Would a messenger bag be as organized? Or would Flylady's Office in a Bag fit inside a messenger bag where you could carry other things that don't fit in the Office in a Bag? I need more organization and I'm looking for ideas before I spend my money. Thanks..
  12. Since your ds is already 18yo, I would forgo the path of dual-enrollment. He's old enough to begin earning college credits as a regular CC student. Here in MI we can earn an Assoc Degree at CC and then transfer to 4-yr univ as a third year college student since the MI univ's are required to accept MI Assoc Degree. See how it is where you live. Our girls took some CC courses which they never studied at home and both of them did fine. Sciences, btw, were minimally covered in our homeschool because neither of our girls are into science, yet both of them have done and are doing well with science in college. Our oldest went straight to 4-yr college with only a high school Chemistry class and a home studied Biology course under her belt. Our youngest only did Biology at home and is now taking Anatomy at CC. Where we live CC is a notch above high school level but in many courses, is a gentler step before univ level, which makes it a good stepping stone.
  13. If English is your dd's least favorite subject and since she's already in R&S 7, I'd consider tossing R&S aside and letting her complete her grammar studies with a 1-vol text: Warriner's English Grammar and Composition - Third Course. emmanuelbooks.com sells it. All you'd need to purchase: Gently used text- $20 Answer key- $5 Your dd could do this 1 vol text and be done with grammar studies. If you want her to continue doing yearly grammar through high school, consider having her do the following texts in this order: Voyages in English, gr 7 (also from emmanuelbooks.com) Voyages in English, gr 8 Warriner's English Grammar and Composition - Third Course But Warriner's would be a good stand alone text to use even without going through Voyages beforehand.
  14. Yes, write it down NOW! About 15 years ago I got a written version of my dad's story, going all the way back to his parents and grandparents. It's a very precious written work to have.
  15. My LD dd entirely skipped over having to take SAT or ACT. By the time she graduated from high school, she had already completed her first semester of college courses. That was our plan for her from the get-go-- to eliminate her need for SAT or ACT. She is not a good test-taker.
  16. Oh, gosh... thanks guys. :thumbup1: This will give me enough places to check out before I make a purchase. I'm wanting a messenger bag to use as a purse and I want to buy one that is durable... one that will last. Thank you, thank you!:)
  17. Jenne, That looks like a nice bag but I guess I'm wanting to find a selection of messenger bags that are more wide, than tall... and of course, well made. A couple years ago there was a thread about messenger bags and several sites were mentioned. I lost everything on my computer since then so I don't have the company names or their links anymore.
  18. What are the best 2-3 websites to purchase a messenger bag? Please post links. Thanks...
  19. Both of my girls are in college now where we've seen World History and World Lit taught from time to time. We opted to expose our kids to World History/Lit while they were still in high school and under our covering.
  20. Does she still have a website? If so, please post link. Thanks.
  21. Oh man:mad:! I have "Amy in Orlando's" recipe, actually only part of it, for her CP Italian beef sandwiches. Does anyone have the recipe to post here? Thanks.. TIA
