  1. We are starting a section today in History on Ancient Greece and mythology...anyone have some book favorites I can pick up from the library? Our interlibrary loan has over 108 items to choose from so I need some recommendations. I'm not a lover of mythology so those who enjoy it, please pass on books that your kids have enjoyed! thanks!
  2. $100?!?!?! I'm not sure my husband would even let me have the kids groomed for that price!! I think with a Golden it makes a difference to have a pro do it...with our Labs, it's nice-a treat for me as I am the one to bath them.
  3. I wish that I could afford to have them groomed 2x a month...they are Labs and outdoor dogs so it is hard to justify the expense in the winter time. We bathe them in a kiddie swimming pool when it is warm but I never get the job done quite as good as the groomer. She charges $24 per dog and my husband thinks it is a waste of money when the one Lab jumps in the lake the minute we get her home. The other one is a roller and loves to scratch his back on the ground....but I love how they feel, smell and how much fur she can blow off of them!
  4. We usually do the IOWA and up until this year, I have ordered them thru Piedmont. However, this year, they are not available thru them. I found another resource thru the Hive...Triangle Education Assessments. I just ordered the test prep for the IOWA today. I have always tested even when kids were small...always get nervous and sick with fear that they won't test well. So far, we have been blessed with amazingly good scores without using test prep. That being said, for some reason this year, I decided to order a test prep from BJU and we have been working thru it and yikes...we are not doing so great! I don't understand why as we have had a great school year and lessons are good. I ordered this one today to see if it helps give them even a little more practice. I'm sort of stressed though thinking about it. They are in 7th and 8th and my husband wants to consider a private Christian school when they are in 9th and 10th and I want their test scores in middle school to stay high as previous tests. Anyway, sorry for the rant but check out Triangle Education Assessments website. We usually test second week in May.
  5. I'd say T.J. Maxx, Marshalls if you like unique...you may not find many of a pattern but I like to have different patterns to mix/match. I also like Target...Pier One but sometimes prices are a bit high!
  6. I take a whole chicken and boil it down...pick off the chicken and take the broth and make a zippy mushroom soup that is out of this world. Think I found it on Ree's Tasty Recipes site and then I modified it as I do most recipes to suit us...that means add cream cheese or sour cream, wine and Slap your Mama seasoning!!!
  7. I always say we going to do that...it lasts about one movie and pizza and then we are all ready to do something as we all get restless....guess we don't fit the slug mood! But is sure feels good when you doing it!
  8. I know what you mean...I feel like sometimes that I am not being or doing enough ever! I think our society/media shoves this down our throats constantly with the unrealistic images that they show us on TV, magazines etc. I think it is honestly so unachievable but yet we as women keep trying to do it all and not break a nail, forget to shave our legs and scrapbook, journal every moment of our kids' lives!! Honestly, I think this must be a woman thing but it doesn't cross my husband's mind ever! He does what he can do and at the end of the day, he's okay with that! I do what I can do and try to simply enjoy life with my husband and two boys and the dogs! I try to remind myself that at the end of the day those things that didn't get donewill not really cause a major crisis. Pick and choose your battles as they say and I feel like it is sometimes truly a battle to remind ourselves to be good to ourselves and compare ourselves to the women around us! The women that I admire are ones that openly admit to saying "I am only one person and I can only be so much and do so much! I am who I am!" As far as cleaning house, craft projects and all the things that take away my time from laughing over a great movie, playing wiffle ball with kids, and husband...well, when my kids are grown and off on their own life's journey, my days will be way tooo long and I will need all those projects to fill the hours. My mom and dad are retired and their house is spotless...quiet, everything in order and in its place. I wouldn't trade places or dirty toilets to be in their shoes. I honestly love where I am right now on this ride in life!!! Glad to know there are others out there that keep it real!
  9. My husband and I were snowed in there in late October near the convention center downtown. There was a great place within walking distance from our hotel called "The Old Mattress Factory"...we ate there 3 nights plus lunch 2 times and it was great every time!
  10. This is what Chili's El Presidente' margaritas do to me!!!
  11. My son was diagnosed with Apraxia when he was small. Our parents-as-teacher advisor suggested I had him tested because he was not talking in a language that we could understand! It was babble mainly! He also had issues with texture of foods, cuffs and tags on shirts, going down slides and swinging, ball pits etc. So, we tested him, found an amazing speech therapist and also had some occupational therapy as well(they put him in swimming pool filled with beans, or sand--different textures. They also put him on a big swinging board. All this before he would go into speech. Fast forward-he was talking non-stop, fantastic vocabulary and he is now a normal 14 1/2 kid! Find a good speech therapist...you'll never regret it! Oh, and we never did do anything with his diet.
  12. Hi back at ya, Krista!! I feel so sorry for J as I think he has my lack of math skills...and put the two of us together is major frustration on something tricky for him. I feel totally inadequate!
  13. Oh, and I'm looking a nice pair of skinnies. What do you have? Any fave brand I have a favorite couple of brands....Buckle has 2 brands..BKE and Big Star...both of these are great looking jeans! Also, they carry a jean called Rock Revival that I love but they are about twice the price of the others. Check these out!
  14. where did you buy them? Are they cute looking on the feet? You know the cute factor with flip flops is a must!!! I say that because my husband can't stand that I wear flip flops constantly in the summer no matter the activity!
  15. For those who excel in math, please help... what is an easy to understand way of solving 21 is what % of 6? A.3.5 B.35 C.350 D.3500 E.NG my son is having a brain freeze on these types of problems and we are driving each other crazy---he just can't seem to get it. thanks
  16. My son absolutely loved the Anybody series...read all of them. He is now on the 2nd of the Peter and the Starcatcher series---really is loving it! In fact, I've started the first one as he keeps telling me about the books. I'm also going to see if he would enjoy the Inkheart books. Talked with a woman at the airport who was reading the series and she highly recommended them! Loved the movie and she said the books were much better(of course!)
  17. I don't know what kind of filtration system you're looking at, but we've been really happy with our BioWheels. :) Some tanks come with those already in the kit. BioWheels...I'm assuming that Petsmart or Petco carry this? We live 70 miles from Belleville, IL and that is more than likely where we will purchase the aquarium. I have heard it is a rather lengthy process to set up and we are still debating as to the location. My husband thought out classroom would be ideal but I think I would prefer living room so we would enjoy it as a family--he doesn't spend the time we do in the classroom- and plus I think nighttime is the best time for viewing the aquarium. Do you recommend one that comes everything you need in a basic kit if they offer that or is it better to buy individual filters, lighting etc? I know in some products when you buy a "kit", the components aren't top of the line and we want to be sure to get better quality parts.
  18. My son turned 13 yesterday and we have decided to purchase an aquarium for a family gift! Can anyone recommend a good size? We are considering one ranging from 30-45 gallon. Where did you buy your tank? Would you recommend acrylic? I saw on a website that they are easy to scratch? If you have any recommendations on size of tank, brand etc or even best place to buy, I would appreciate it. We are thinking that this will be a good investment but after looking at all the accessories you can buy on Petsmart site...wow! this has the potential to be costly! Any advice?
  19. My sister-in-law says "EYE-talian" and "casa-dilla" for quesadillla which really makes me crazy. Another one is " boot-te' " when she is referring to her butt! Her 3 girls say it all the time as well. Can't stand the use of Ax for the word ask!
  20. would it be something that my boys need to do independently or would they watch the online lesson together? how much time do you allow for your science? We are using Rainbow Science and we are in the yellow section now so I was thinking of doing the Life Science for something different. Also, is this something you pay for monthly or is it a yearly subscription? We finish school in late May and I don't want to sign up for something that we won't use this summer but I'm paying for it. Do you normally sign up for this in the fall at the beginning of a school year? thanks for the comments!
