There are other People who read Dutch on the BaW I still have 2 questions about the bingo. The 'banned' field is that a book that was banned somewhere, anytime? Or just specific for the area you live? And the 'Library free space' field, is that like the blanc stone in scrabble? To use for anything you want? If not so I don't understand that description :)

Who's planning for next year?
Loesje22000 replied to almondbutterandjelly's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
:D One can not choose much here, even the math science track still has: Dutch, English, French, integrated Math, Seperated Sciences, History, Geography But they have twice as much hours in Math, Science and Geography as dd will have. (And dd will have more foreign languages hours then the math science track) But I feel sorry for you! It is hard to imagine how our homeschool would look like if we would live in the USA... -
Thank you! I didn't know War and peace comes on the BBC this weekend, so I just programmed the recorder :)

Thanks for all the encouraging words we don't 'have to' read a book a week. Last year I almost quitted the BaW list for that reason  And I give myself more space to read in translation. Although english books are cheaper and easier to get.. I do like the bingo challenge though as I can do that in Dutch too :)

Library day today! I found 'H is from Hawk' in Dutch. But I started (and finished): 'Laughing all the way to the mosque' And laughing is what I did :) The book is translated as ' Little mosque on the prairie' which (obviously) triggered my curiousity. I didn't know it was the name of a TV serie (We don't have much Canadian series on the television)

I'm not good in wrapping ups. But I'll try to share some things. I read a lot of French literature in Dutch. It was good to see that the character of these books are so different compared to English literature. Living in a more France oriented country it was good to do. Next year I'll tackle the list for German literature... Reading English became more difficult during the year so I became more dependend on translations. I loved Middlemarch though :) North and South (Gaskell) was a little too predictable. I hope to find more translations, though, because I like the genre. Besides German literature I plan to pick another book of DH 'all times favorites' list. (Read: another book from a Russian author).

Not done like this anymore - share a memory
Loesje22000 replied to Pegasus's topic in The Chat Board
- waiting until the television would start sending their evening program, of course there was not such a thing like all day television - moving the television to the attic to get Belgian television :) - taking turns reading aloud codes like: 999, 876, 332 to my father who typed them in. After 1-2 hours of reading we had a new computer game... - absolute silence for 30 minutes to hear all kind of strange noices on the radio, recording them from the radio on cassette. And then putting the cassette in the computer desk to discover what computer program it was :) -
I'm also planning grade 9 (we will start in January) but I'm not sure my situation will be helpfull to your problems. We will start with a 32 hour school week (incl. Homework) and try to expand it to our standard of 40h week (incl. Homework) extra curriculairs are not included in this time nor are hobby's.

I'm planning for next year....

I agree! I hope TWTM 4th will be available before I have to send my plans to the government for schoolyear 2016-2017. (I expect governmental inspection in 2017...) -
Big Picture Goals for 2016 with your AL?
Loesje22000 replied to Gil's topic in Accelerated Learner Board
We have 'officially' finished grade 8 now, and have no required exams for the next 1-2 years. So we start grade 9 with more freedom then we have had the last 2 years. I'm not sure what to do with the freedom. The freedom is relatively as we have to be back on track in grade 11, but we celebrate 2016 as the year without exams. :) The only thing I can think now is to improve dd's writing skills. And to get dd an opinion about topics, somehow :) -
Nice christmas present: mailman just delivered the original 8th grade certificate of dd. We are done with exams for a while... :)

I need something new and shiny
Loesje22000 replied to SparklyUnicorn's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
The ' So you really want to learn' series aren't really 'new' , but it might be 'new for you' as I have no idea what you are using now. It is secular. -
I finished four books this week. The Corinne Hofmann books: http://www.amazon.com/Corinne-Hofmann/e/B001IO9IIC/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1450635726&sr=8-1 And a book that is called in Dutch:'Daughter of Iran'. And I sung 2 christmas concerts; one last weekend, one this weekend. One in Baroque style, one more modern style.

Schooling with a frequent houseguest
Loesje22000 replied to Squawky Acres's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My parents come over to stay for a week or longer at least once a year, and don't like it if school continues during their visits. Our compromis is we school to 10 o clock. I can manage 1-3 subjects in that time. And it is the time my dad needs to get fully dressed up. When we stay at their house the same: we work to 10 o clock and no longer. -
That would be nice: Reading along in Dutch :)

Wishing you strength and all the best Stacia! ++++ I live with redbush tea. The only tea that can replace a cup of coffee :) +++ I think I lost my way in all the book plans...

If a child does several grades in one year, it costs more. If a library doesn't contain children books in foreign languages and you have to buy them yourself, it costs more. If one follows the requirements of several countries it costs more. If one has to pay custom charges about shippings it costs more. It is still cheaper then an international or British School :) Luckely 'afterschool activities' 'sports' and 'daycamps' are pretty cheap here.

Giving more points for writing out then for 'right answer', after all the answer could be a 'guess' So 5 points for writing out and 1-2 for right answer. This way dd got a 'fail' on her tests had to redo it. She quickly learned to write out. Sometimes she forgets again, and I use the point system again.

We use textbooks. They are easy to divide in lessons to get covered. Additional stuff, is additional. So we don't have 5 math programs or three language arts programs. En if I don't have time we don't do the additional stuff. I can't do both: organised homeschooling and organised household. So I plan enough schoolvacations for dd to get my house a little bit in order. When I homeschool I do my bare minimum in householding, When I household I do not much homeschooling. Not sure householding is a verb in English too, but I think you'll understand.
