  1. I'm not sure about WTMA, but I know Terry Kanner (from PAH) is teaching biology at AIM Academy - Debra Bell. If you are looking for a non-live class, this may be a good option for you.
  2. We found Meredith through Tom Richey - he recommended her for AP Euro tutoring. (Really like Tom Richey.) Dd was taking AP Euro through PAH, but we stopped the second semester due to the reasons described in this thread: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/646598-pah-ap-european-history/ Dd got a 5 on the AP Exam. And, yes, we were one of the UC-success stories - accepted at UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. Taking AP Euro in 11th grade would be great. Dd took AP Euro in 11th, then APUSH in 12th, and that order worked well for her.
  3. In another thread, several people expressed interest in an AP Euro course through the tutor we used, Meredith Noah. She now has a website, and is ready to go for this 2017-2018 school year. Her website is: http://www.noahnation.org/ I can highly recommend Meredith! Also, another AP teacher has joined her at NoahNation and will be offering AP World. She is offering an early bird special, so her pricing for the AP class is quite good!
  4. DD signed up on the test day form to have the score sent directly to the university. Accepted UCD in March.
  5. Not sure what CK12 is, but Terri Kanner, who teaches AP Biology at PA Homeschoolers, is teaching a pre-AP biology class at AIM Academy. New class this year!
  6. DD found out by looking at the UC Davis website. She went to the website for another reason - but UCD had updated her account with the score (APUSH 5 ) since they had already received. Maybe other UC's do the same thing.
  7. Agree with Katilac. I didn't give any credit for piano lessons, choir, orchestra, etc, except for AP Music Theory. We listed them as extracurriculars. Those extracurriculars are important; don't underestimate them!
  8. It is not required for UC's, but because we live in CA, where there is a PE requirement, we included it on the transcript as P for pass. Therefore, it was not included in the GPA.
  9. Meredith Noah is going to be teaching a homeschool AP European history course this fall. She is finishing up her website and it should be ready by the end of the month. I will post a link when it's ready for anyone who is interested.
  10. I did send Meredith a quick email, and she is very open to the idea of doing an online class. I will talk to her more after the weekend.
  11. My daughter reviewed with the Princeton Review study guide and thought it was good. We also bought the Crash Course study guide and didn't find it very worthwhile. I don't think any of the study guides would be able to prepare your son for the essay, at least not like a teacher who knows what she/he is doing. He really needs to have someone grading and giving feedback who is experienced with those essays. Maya Inspektor is wonderful. DD had her for AP Lang and AP Lit and loved those classes. I agree with your assessment of her 100%. Is he not doing APUSH because he already has his US History credit and still needs the world/European credit? APUSH with Mrs. Richman is very, very good. DD definitely felt like she got a 5 after she took the exam a few weeks ago. Plus Mrs. Richman is so genuinely enthusiastic. I'm not sure how to advise you on AP Euro. Meredith is kind of expensive. She had it set up to buy packages by a certain number of hours. I think she should do a special package for homeschoolers in which she provides a syllabus for self-study pacing, has a certain number of tutoring hours, and will grade and give feedback a certain number of essays. You know, I think I will email her and suggest it. :) Maybe someone else on this forum has taken it from another provider?
  12. I think they probably don't fully realize. The class was very small, I think starting at something like 15 with a couple dropping. Most of the other students had taken APUSH already, so were well prepared by Mrs. Richmond to write the type of essay required for AP history exams. For a student who didn't have that background, it was very difficult. (20 minutes with Meredith Noah, and dd totally got it.) Another bummer is that dd put the code for PAH on her exam, so Mrs. Donohue got credit for dd getting an 5. Additionally, it really is a course that could be passed by reading the textbook and doing a study guide (if you know how to do the essays). I know the students had PLENTY of time to do study guides before the exam... Who knows, maybe Mrs. Donohue will be better because she had all of this year to prepare the entire year's assignments, so she is ready to go. (I would be willing to bet she was putting it together on the fly as the year went on, during the year dd took her class.) As I said, she did have some interesting assignments the first semester, and she is a pleasant person. And maybe Mrs. Richman will help her out, as Mrs. Donohue was a graduate of PAH courses herself. Edited to add: during the year dd took her class (for clarification) Edited again to change the AP exam score from "A" to "5" Where is my mind????
  13. My daughter took AP Euro from Hannah Donohue two years ago. You can PM me if you'd like, but I will say here that we had to switch to someone else for the second semester. I will start by saying that, on the positive side, Mrs. Donohue was pleasant, and she had some interesting assignments the first semester. That's pretty much where it ends. She took MONTHS (seriously, multiple months) to grade many of the assignments (her grading became slower over the course of the first semester to reach the point that she was months behind.) Even then, she rarely gave any constructive feedback - usually either none or just a vague sentence or two that could have been written on anyone's paper. There was more than one occasion that dd received remarks that didn't apply to her assignment. Mrs. Dohohue was pregnant with her second child at the beginning of the school year (due during second semester), but never told the parents or the students. Not saying she has to share her private life, but she actually emailed the students in March that she was on the way to labor and delivery, and that she had "neglected to tell them that she was pregnant." The course essentially ended then - she had nothing planned in advance, did nothing for many weeks, and did very little after that. By the time she did anything, it was too little too late. We had already switched to a tutor who is very good, and that I would highly recommend, Meredith Noah. Meredith used to be affiliated with Tom Richey of TomRichey.net, but not sure if she still is. She is a public school AP teacher who also tutors. She has been an AP exam reader, done AP workshops, and knows her stuff. She was very quick at tailoring the tutoring toward what my daughters needs were. She even invited dd to attend, via Skype, a couple of exam review days she had after school and on a Saturday with her public school students at no extra charge. DD ended up getting a 5 because of Meredith's help. If I was going to do AP Euro again, I would do the course at home using one of the traditional AP Euro textbooks, and then hire Meredith to tutor at three points during the year - beginning, middle, and end. If I had a child who had already taken APUSH or AP World, and therefore understood how to write the history essays, I would probably cut the tutoring down in the beginning and use most of it toward the end of the year. You can find syllabi all over the place for course pacing. I'm really surprised that Hannah Donohue is attempting to teach this course again. She often used her toddler as an excuse for why she didn't get back to students or why she hadn't graded papers or why she hadn't posted the week's work on time. I don't know how she thinks she will manage any better now, with two children...
  14. Lol, I put a copy almost everywhere: external hard drive, the cloud, flash drive, and a hard copy in the fireproof safe (which is so stuffed full with documents, photos, etc that I have to pick and choose what to add). Jane's idea of emailing it is a good idea - I have an archive sub-folder for stuff like tha, but didn't think to do it with the transcript. Bummer on the fire safes. I guess I won't rely upon that so much in the future. I had gone as far as to tape the combination to the top with a note saying there was nothing of value so that a couple of thieves couldn't run off with it.)
  15. I found that most of the "course descriptions" on the PAH site were not really what I considered course descriptions. I ended up rewriting almost all of them, although I used snippets from the website to varying degrees. Julie's look good (although a little more concise than mine), but it looks like we formatted a bit differently (I didn't list the info on teacher or that the course was through PAH in the description, but instead listed it on a separate line after the course description. At any rate, I really think the course descriptions matter less than we think they do.
  16. My eye just caught that you have a son at LeTourneau. A good friends homeschooled son just graduated from LeTourneau. His name is Matthew S. They probably know each other. :)
  17. Curious about feedback on this course... Even though dd is graduating, we are interested in listening to it in the car during one of our road trips this summer. Even though I'm a registered Republican, and fairly conservative, I've always wanted our courses to present balanced perspectives. People have written that this series is very far right. Any feedback from people who have done the whole series?
  18. Oh, darn about the UPS store - that is what we used too. Hope the mobile notary will still come!
  19. There is something else you can do. I can't remember exactly now, but it would involve getting a form (available through College Board) notarized today. If you live on the west coast, you have time if you do it ASAP. I don't know about the ID card from HSBC. Does it have a picture on it? I would walk her the whole way in to the registration area, ready to show your own I.D. When we did the notarized form for SAT French when my daughter was in 9th grade, the person checking the kids was really low key and made a comment to the affect that she would have let her in with me vouching for who she was.
  20. I can't say exactly, but my dd did the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) Certificate of Merit program. The program has an approved list of songs and books, and the RCM books are listed. DD used them throughout the higher levels -7,8,9, and 10(advanced), and the levels matched, i.e. a Level 9 RCM book was listed for Level 9 MTAC CM. My daughter did level 10 CM adjudication and AP Music Theory the same year. That was simply the way it worked out. AP Music Theory was definitely the more rigorous of the two. There are some differences between the RCM and MTAC programs, but enough similar to make a good comparison.
  21. Hi Snowblemom - Yes, I understand AP exams completely. I thought Quark's comment about acceptance was regarding her son's university acceptance. When I reread it, I can see that she could also have meant acceptance of the AP score. Quark, if that is the case, you should look at Berkeley's AP acceptance chart because some require a score of 4 or 5 to receive credit. Not sure which ones your son is taking.
  22. Umm... unless you know something I don't, he isn't REQUIRED to do the AP exams as part of continued acceptance. If he was accepted, he was accepted. It is my understanding that the only thing that could affect acceptance is a significant change in GPA, such as dropping to straight C's. Of course, this is provided he wasn't given conditional acceptance, which I know isn't the case.
  23. I volunteered to proctor exams at our local high school (giving back for letting us take exams there) and am doing an accommodated exam. I will try to remember to ask the coordinator what the requirements were and post that info.
  24. Not too much stress here. Since dd is graduating, she is only taking the exams for the classes which will earn her college credit. So, at her university, AP Lit will do her nothing as she already has AP Lang, and AP Gov will give her nothing. She is double majoring, so she they won't even help as electives as she will already have all she needs from one major to the other. She will be required to take three quarters of Calculus and thinks she wants to retake calculus at college (she took AB so it only would have given credit for one of the three classes) So, she is down to two APs! It is a pretty low stress year for us - lower number of APs plus no ACT or SAT or SATII! It is kinda weird. Good luck to all of your kids! I'm sure they are so well prepared that they will do well!
  25. There have been a few threads on this in the last year or so. Here is one: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/559413-high-school-french-need-suggestions/ Maybe a search will bring up some others.
