  1. now that I keep it in the fridge in a clean peanut butter jar with a plastic sppon already in there for a scoop. even works on icecream, and salads. Sorry I can't help with a recipe for bread etc. ~Christine in AL
  2. And my second suggestion is to think what's best in the short term for all the kids involved. I'd get a lawyer. I"m so sorry to ask this, but do you happen to have teaching credentials? I don't , so this is not about your ability, but about appearances. How does it " LOOK" Most judges aren't going to understand homeschooling, they see failed families, not thriving ones, so it could look like daddy gets the kids and "doesn't even bother to enroll them in school" If it were me, I'd enroll them in school, and take lots of pictures of them doing things with family. Especially the daddy. It might be better in the short run to put them in school until the divorce is final. Everything that is done or your BIL HAS done for the last five yeras might be dragged out if this gets nasty. I think prepare for it to get nasty. and hope and pray that it doesn't. Did I mention , I'd get a lawyer. or at least consult one. you are playing a game of appreances and one upmanship here. Good luck. ~c.
  3. When I'm using Flylady system, our life is better. Been off it awhile, your post reminded me. thanks Google " Flylady" I think you'll find it that way. Good luck. ~c.
  4. It works for us, and it's the only curriculum I've not second guesssed. I may also be so committed because I had to work so hard to understand the program. But it is working for us. The learning curve is steep for the teacher, but now I'm set as long as I teach them spelling. Honestly , there are probably others that are just as good, but now that we understand the program, SWR is open and go for us. I'm also thinking that Classical Writing will make more sense to me because they suggest SWR. Good luck. ~c.
  5. Sometimes the good parenting and teaching means doing nothing, wow, that's my hardest bit... well done for not editiing. ~christine in AL
  6. My two were born in Vietnam. When I finished the dossier (s), I wanted to name IT. What a mountain of work , yet so worth it. Blessings and Traveling Mercies. ~Christine in AL
  7. My son grooved on the drawing the cube too. I'm glad you asked this question, because i have been struggling with RS and all the geometry. I'll shut up and keep plugging away. I am thrilled with RS results too, but I have strayed in the past because we weren't covering topics I wanted to, ( Kilograms, etc.) So , now I just add them but I'm back with RS and my kids are glad about that. I think do at least PART of every lesson. ~Christine in AL
  8. Congratulations to you. Thanks for posting such happy news. Blessings. ~Christine in AL
  9. Hi, ds 8 , dd 6 Right Start B&C, Suzuki Piano and Violin ( one each, not both taking both) Song School Latin, SWR, TaeKwonDo, and soccer. sporactic use of SOTW and R.E.A.L. Science, some casual co-op stuff , lots of educational video and reading. And a confusing hodgepodge of other stuff that is making me crazy. ( next year plan to streamline L.A. with : CW Aesop and Primer ) Anybody nearby? ~Christine in AL
  10. thank you to all of you. I didn't know about some of these. this is the look of one hand typing.
  11. How do you help your kids memorize, what do the assignments look like, do they recite? write? Record and listen to themselves? What length piece do you expect of them? How does it fit in the week? Any great sources? ~Christine in AL
  12. So, I could be cleaning up the school room, or getting things organized fro next week, or even the rest of this year, but I'd more fun to eat peanut butter and jelly crackers and learn about something we won't need for 3 years. I was bummed to learn there are 3 main Ancient Greek Languages is this correct? Are there secular, academic reasons for choosing one over the other? Wow, there sure is alot to this being educated thing. ~Christine in Al
  13. Siloam What is yoru schedule for combining Sing. and Right Start ? I am teetering between them and would love to combine them. ~Christine in AL
  14. It might be interesting to them that at 46 I have exactly the same problem. I'm completely not being fed intellectually in my Sunday School class and I'm struggling with balancing my need to grow in my personal knowlege with the need to be part of a caring community created by attending my class every week and hearing what is happening in people's lives. A faith community is more than personal , intellectual growth. but It's boring and I wouldn't be going to my Sunday School class if I had an alternative. I don't know your kids obviously, but as a homeschooler, I'm not sure I would pull mine from a group learning setting with age peers. It seems like a good place to make lasting healthy friendships. At least they can know , it's not just they're they're teenagers. That some grownups struggle with bland Sunday School lessons too. good luck. Christine in AL
  15. As for ar buying the early levels, I suggest you join the Right Start yahoo group and look for the manuals there. I also added base ten blocks to my manipuliatives.. They were not part of the program when we started and the base 10 blocks sometimes made more sense to me than the abacus. AND if you slow down around mid-B that's okay, there are some tricky stategies mid way and most folks slow down at least a bit. ~christine in AL
  16. My kids like the BBC site too. Dance Mat typing. I haven't seent eh 10.00 one from Staples. We do also have Typer Island. has lots of timed challenges that make my two children crazy in diffferent ways. I'd go with cheaper. and the BBC. ~c.
  17. I know you don't plan to publish, I would love it if you would share, though :-) (Christine in Al, who still uses out-dated smiley's )
  18. I'm not sure, but she was going to substitute some beautifully written modern fables for the specific translations of Aesop in the CW. CW looks great to me, but if there's a better, homemade tweak out there, I'd love to see it. ~Chiristine in AL
  19. I was just at someone's blog and she wrote that she will seperate the analysis from the immitation portion for the Aesop book. She will look for other fables to copy because of the quality of translation. How are y'all with the Aesop? ~Christine in AL
  20. This is so great. I am just looking into CW, and am exactly in this boat. Yeah, Thanks. ~Christine in AL
  21. Thanks for all the feedback about this program. It looks really good. I really like Magistra voice and the detail and range of lessons seems like rich land to explore. I tried the down load mini lesson/infomercial. It wouldn't work at first, That threw me. It did take a few hours to hear from LL. I was expecting a quicker response. I worte and heard back. I feel good about using the program. And much better after all these posts. ~Christine in AL
  22. Hi, We'll eventually finish Song School Latin and I'm looking ahead to a next program. Lively Latin looks great, but I've seen some posts about difficulites with the site or with errors, ie mistakes and typos. Our total Latin back ground will be whatever we learn from Latin Song School. I'm not counting on being able to see a mistake. Oh, I"m interested in only a program with a Clssical pronounciation option. I would prefer a secular program, but I'm happily using SWR, so I can adjust if necessary. Any thoughts? ~Christine in AL
