  1. McGraw Hill has a support website for their school curriculum in Spanish. If you look under the "Conexión con el hogar" heading you will see link called "Cartas y Actividades" that have those little printable readers for each grade level. Hope that helps! http://tesoros.macmillanmh.com/national/teachers
  2. Oh! I really enjoyed his book, The Language Instinct. I looked at the rest of his bibliography and it is really interesting. I guess I have some reading to do!
  3. I feel like a crumpled piece of paper after last weekend's Girl Scout camp out!

  4. This is a thread about logic. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/512494-logic-after-orbiting-with-logic-not-fallacy-detective/ I haven't used Art of Argument, but I am going to try it when the time comes. I did not like Fallacy Detective at all!
  5. I should find out today if we are going to Okinawa or not. I'm excited and bewildered at the same time!

    Okinawa?

Hmmm, good things to think about. Thanks for telling me about your experiences. At our current posting, we live in a very small town that has a Walmart and Dollar Tree as our prime shopping choices. The nearest bookstore is 45 minutes away. If I want a "real" city I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes in one direction or 2 hours in another. Despite being a small town, there are no sidewalks and it is not bicycle friendly. The internet is my "mall" now, lol. I know it could be worse, but I am definitely over this place. Our dream location, according to my Dd, is a bicycle friendly town where we can ride our bikes in to do a little shopping, then ride home without fear of death. My son wants to live near the ocean and go swimming every day. I would like us to live off post and get to know the culture. I think I would miss the snow, but Alaska is just too much for me!

    Okinawa?

Well that sounds quite nice! Other than the humidity :glare: But we have lived in some pretty humid places. My hair was so poofy, it looked like I was trying to bring back the 80s.

    Okinawa?

Has anyone lived in Okinawa? What did you think of it? My husband is looking for a new posting and we were hoping to get assigned to Germany, but now he has an offer for Okinawa. TIA
  9. Thanks for posting! Too bad I already have that one. I am eagerly awaiting the next one in the series. Why oh why did I start a series where the story arc isn't finished?? Have I learned nothing from Game of Thrones?
  10. Maybe he could be in some flashback scenes, or as a ghost à la Yoda and Obi Won Kenobi. I think he is adorable too! I loved him in 28 days.
  11. I love that show! Who wouldn't like a space western?? Fangirl swoon...
  12. Finally added a profile pic!

  13. Funny story... On one of our really frustrating days for both the kids and I, they were sent outside to play and I went to take a hot bath and read a book. While I was soaking I heard what sounded like a scream but I didn't hear any more screaming or crying after it so I continued reading. Then I heard it again. I began to worry and decided this needed to be checked out. So I got out of the tub, put on my bath robe and I went to investigate. At this point, I'm thinking there will be blood and perhaps broken bones. I went to the front yard and I don't see them. Worry increases. Then I went to the back yard. There they were laughing and joking. I said, "Are you ok???" They said they were fine. I said, "What was that screaming? Did someone get hurt?" My ds said, "Dd was stressed out so we were primal screaming. We feel much better now!" So they could always do yoga and primal scream
  14. First day of coop tomorrow, and I'm teaching map coloring. I hope there is at least one kid who likes discrete math as much as I do.

  15. Dd to Ds: Three dots are supposed to be a dramatic pause. You paused but it wasn't very dramatic.

      Everybody's a critic!!! LOL!

  16. This is our first week back and it went so much better than last year. This is our second year homeschooling and I decided to make a schedule instead of the "we'll get to it when we get to it" attitude of last year. My kids love it! I didn't realize they were such box-checkers. The subjects they do on their own are color coded differently than the ones we do together. My early bird son gets up and just starts on his work so he can finish asap. My daughter knows that she has to finish those tasks even if she doesn't get started until 10am or works slowly because of her perfectionism. They are learning some personal accountability. :)
  17. We got rid of 4 of our 5 roosters and our hens started laying. I think they were receiving too much "attention" and they were stressed out.
  18. Since last year was my first year homeschooling I felt that maybe I couldn't make things work because I just didn't have enough experience. I have never been to a convention and the used curriculum bookstore is quite a drive so I don't get to lay my "hot little hands" on copies of the books I want to look at very often ;) Thanks for the responses, I should trust myself more! At least for the curricula that isn't working…
  19. I was wondering what others do. I hate to lose out on the money I spent, but it seems that the subjects we don't get done are the ones that use curricula that doesn't "work" for us. Last year I started Elemental Science 3 different times, each time thinking it was us, not the curriculum. So how long do you try to use it before you feel like you have given it a fair shake? It is making me crazy! Sara
  20. Ds is learning the theme from Ode to Joy for the guitar. I played a Youtube clip of it and he said, "That's my slow jam." Lol!

  21. You can find the lesson plans if you google "WYFLES salsa". The search result will have pdfs of episodes 102, 103 etc.
  22. Thank you to everyone who replied! It is really nice to hear from people who have used the curriculum for a while. We started with SM Stds, but all of the separate workbooks made it feel so fiddly. However I loved all of the activities in the HIG, and the harder problems in IP. We are starting with MEP this year and I have high hopes for it. Some blogs that I have found helpful are: http://ohpeacefulday.blogspot.com/2009/06/mep-101.html http://fisheracademy.blogspot.com/search/label/MEP%20math
  23. I went to the Revolutionary War reenactment at Old Sturbridge Village last weekend. It was so much fun!
