  1. Following!! I'm in a similar boat!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Oh my goodness! It's like you are describing my situation with my 6 year old!!! Absolutely everything you've said is what we are struggling with!!!
  3. YES!! What â˜ðŸ» said!! I, too, need lots of hand holding, and AYOPS does that beautifully!! Join the fb group! The authors are VERY accessible and will answer any questions you have very quickly! It truly is the best! Absolutely worth every penny!
  4. thank you so much for this! I was especially curious if Mr. D taught using a mastery method, which is what we want! Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Does anyone have experience with either of these? My DD11 is finishing up Singapore 5B and we are trying to decide between Chalk Dust Basic Math and then continuing with CD for Pre-Algebra and beyond OR do Singapore 6a/b and then move into Mr. D Math for Pre-Algebra and beyond. Any advice?
  6. Please direct me to a different thread if this has already been discussed. I am looking for a good simple cursive curriculum for my DD9 to do this summer/fall. She has excellent manuscript, but she would like to learn cursive. I've considered HWT but it's not very aesthetically pleasing. I'm considering New American Cursive, but does it actually teach the student the strokes or is it just trace and copy? What about Rhythm of Handwriting from LOE? I don't want anything too involved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)
  7. Following... Curious as well :)
  8. Following- I'm considering CLE LA for my fourth grader too
  9. HomeschoolMinder!! It's amazing, not pricey, easy to use, and has extremely helpful support techs! www.homeschoolminder.com.
  10. My 3rd grader is doing CAP Song School Latin and loves it!!! We got the DVDs and student book and its completely independent!
  11. Hey there- I know it's been several years since you posted this, but I was debating between Trail Guide to Learning and HOD, too, and I'd love to know what you decided to use.
  12. Quick question- I know all the other acronyms, but what is TC?
  13. PS- I will say that some of the Bible portion of BLHFHG might be a little old for the Kinder, but we do a ton of family devotions and such, that it didn't really matter. The bible verses and concepts were excellent!
  14. I used BLHFHG last year with my K and 2nd grader and it went great!! My Kinder was older (already 6), but as long as you use individual/separate programs for Math and Phonics/Language Arts, it's totally doable!!
  15. My kids (5 and 7 at the time) absolutely adored Trumpet of the Swan!! I would pick it in a heartbeat!
  16. Quick question- we are wanting to start SSL1 with my upcoming 1st grader and 3rd grader together- should I purchase an extra student book?
  17. I noticed that you are skipping Shurley 3- can you explain why you are skipping a level? I just finished Shurley 2 with DD and was planning to start Shurley 3 for third grade, but now I'm wondering if I should do 4? Any insight would be great! Thanks!
  18. We are using MIF with CLE for third grade next year. This year we used MIF with Abeka and I just used MIF as my core and used Abeka worksheets to supplement. It worked ok but I really love how CLE is a bit more student self-led. We've never used CLE before but we've heard such good solid reviews. So I'm looking forward to combining both. I guess we'll see!
  19. I am planning for my upcoming third grader to use Heart of Dakota's Bigger Hearts for His Glory, along with Shurley English for grammar. I love the look of CAP's Writing and Rhetoric, but I'm wondering if it will be overload for my DD with all of the dictation in Bigger. Does anyone have advice or experience with using these together?
  20. hey there- i know it's been a while since y'all posted on this topic, but i am debating between continuing with AAR or moving to LofE for my DD 1st grade year next year. I really do love AAR and she has loved it, too, but when comparing what her big sister learned in Phonics via A Beka, I agree with specialkmom that AAR doesn't seem as comprehensive as it should be. She is in the middle of AAR2 and has just finished AAS1 and moving into AAS2, and like I said, we love it, but I feel like there's something missing. What did y'all decide to use?
  21. I've also considered BF Early American, but DD is very much a visual and kinesthetic learner, and I was afraid BF would be more for the auditory learner. Can you give me your experience with it? Or compare it to the others I'm considering? Thanks so much!!
