  1. She used pieces from a faceshield that had a coating on it that was anti-fog. I wonder if you used something else if you could use this anti fog spray? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PBCZ7C6/?coliid=I3T6ZSZB2X3B0P&colid=1NMYGEA2P1SKM&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
  2. My friend made one from cloth plus the plastic from a shield. The shield didn't work out because she said it didn't fit right and then when she tried to adjust it, it got worse. She said the pattern came from Ohio State university. This might be it?https://ada.osu.edu/mask-instructions-diy PIcture of her mask below. Maybe this would work? If you know people who can sew?
  3. I don't know anything about this but I watched the videos on Wheelock's to help me with Latin Alive. The videos were on Udemy. I think had to buy two or three courses to cover the whole of Wheelocks and each was 9.99. I liked the teacher--we actually watched some of his videos instead of the LA ones, and when the LA video was not clear, these helped me. https://www.udemy.com/course/wheelock_latin/ https://www.udemy.com/course/latin_language/ https://www.udemy.com/course/wheelocks-latin-chapters-31-40/
  4. So, I have you all to thank for this website, but I was really successful in losing track of it! So here it is again just in case you all lost track of it also. "Lit2Go is a free online collection of stories and poems in Mp3 (audiobook) format. An abstract, citation, playing time, and word count are given for each of the passages. Many of the passages also have a related reading strategy identified. Each reading passage can also be downloaded as a PDF and printed for use as a read-along or as supplemental reading material for your classroom." https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/
  5. I'm so sorry!! That's the worst. It so hard on momma to see the kids struggle. My oldest did fine. I had anxiety issues (thanks PMS!) and the only thing that helped was exercise (chocolate did not help!). My youngest was not weepy but really struggling with focus.
  6. I am not sure this answers the original question, but once I decide on what to use for Pre-A, I looked at what others (providers, WTM forum people, etc.) were using in the sequence after that so that I could have an idea of what sequence other providers felt worked. I guess there are multiple levels to that such as the scope and sequence, how one book feeds into another, and also how the texts are written/structured. For example, between Dolciani Alg and Jurgensen Geo, there are not a huge amount of differences in how the text "looks." So even though there is a different author, it doesn't feel like a whole new experience, if that makes sense.
  7. Just had our yearly. TTG is 8 which is great for him. TSH is shown here. This year he was just barely over the low range. The only reason I am asking is because historically his numbers have been better. Could this just be because of a growth spurt this year? Or what else do I need to keep in mind? He doesn't seem to have any of the classic hypothyroid symptoms that I found online. I did PM his gastroenterologist. Just curious if the hive has experience with this.
  8. I might need to readjust our history for this reason. It was too light last week and so I am consolidating stuff to adjust for his reading speed being faster than I expected, but maybe that is the wrong approach on a week we are adding two more classes.
  9. You also! I also made the mistake of scheduling two doctor's appointments this week (one for DS14 and the other for both). MISTAKE. I think they were reschedules due to COVID, maybe . . . but . . what on earth was I thinking??
  10. We sort of started last week, but this week we added two online classes, so that has really increased the load, if that makes sense. Plus the PMS factor.
  11. (we are homeschooling, btw) I have already redone my schedule for two subjects in less than a week. My youngest is grumpy and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the moving pieces. And I have PMS. What helped you the first time your student hit a full high school load? It will all be okay, right? Chocolate is not the answer, or is it?
  12. I see the book as being very practical -- a "how to" rather than educational philosophy really. Maybe that is just how I read it? But I do find it helpful when I am approaching a new stage to look at her discussion and approach and decide what I will implement vs. not. Confession: we never really did narrations. I guess you could say we "sort of" did them as part of IEW, but never in the way recommended in the WTM or any of the Writing books (WWE, WWS, etc.) We also didn't do the outlining she prescribed. Outlining was part of IEW.
  13. We used Latin Alive, but the previous version, so I didn't want to muddy the waters with input on that when things might be much different. I can tell you that it was pretty fast paced, and although my youngest had already done Latin for Children A through C, and I was told we could technically skip Latin Alive 1, he still struggled through Latin Alive 1. I think it is partly how his brain works. My oldest pushed through LA1 and LA2 and did well, but some parts were really tough, and he is a very good student. Neither liked the videos. I did, but they did not. If I had it to do over, I would have looked at some other curriculum, but once we had one year done, I didn't see the point of switching. I only intended for them to finish two years. My youngest only did the one year, and he is switching to Spanish this year. It wasn't worth it for me to struggle through the second year with him.
  14. I would probably go for the Macaw or the Dragonfly edition if you want used. It will be cheaper, and it is more likely that the support materials like workbooks will still be paper. I bought everything off Amazon or used booksellers, but I am using the Dragonfly edition which is older than what most people on this thread are using. I think the OP was looking at the newest edition @TheAttachedMama did you find anything resource wise?
  15. I have the dragonfly edition, and that makes a difference (I think?) in what print materials are available versus online stuff. It's an older edition than the Macaw (and whatever the current is). What we are using is the: Student Text, Reading and Study Workbook, and partially, the lab manual. I also have the Chapter Quiz/Test volume with answer key, but I will not be using it (using other tests, as noted below) I also have the Teacher's Edition, but at the moment, I don't think I will need it because I am not assigning questions from the Chapter reviews and we are not doing any labs from inside the book. My friend used the lab manual labs (there is an annotated teacher edition for the lab manual) but I was not thrilled with the labs so I am using labs from Biology Corner's website. I plan to do a lot of dissections--the lab manual only includes one or two I think. So for what we ARE using, my kids read the text and as they are reading, they complete the study workbook. When it comes time for a test, they will use that workbook to study. The only things we are using in the lab manual are basic lab skills stuff like how to use a microscope (which you can find online) and stuff about measurements, making tables, etc. For tests, I am using tests for units that my friend wrote and generously shared with me.
  16. Like the prior poster, I think you are confusing the two grammar products. There is First Language Lessons 1-4 for elementary/early logic stage and Grammar for the Well Trained Mind picks up after that in 5th grade or later (with adjustments for the younger students)
  17. I've seen hardly anything, but I follow Mike Rowe on FB and a reader asked him about it and requested to send electricians, etc. out. He responded that Matthew 25 was out and responding. The comments from locals were really sad to read. It sounds so devastating. I was encouraged by reports that electricians, etc. were driving in from other places. There were some interesting comments about the Midwest's self-sufficiency (in a good way) and how they just sort of don their boots and get to work during something like this.
  18. I suppose if you wanted to be difficult you could call the local health department. (I probably would) I'm so sorry!!
  19. You are correct. I apologize. I inserted this text above for the OP's benefit which is for the Introductory Physics text. "Students should be enrolled in concurrent algebra I to use this book, which is standard track mathematics for 9th grade. We make our exercises challenging, requiring students to utilize multiple concepts and skills to arrive at an answer, but nothing higher than basic algebra is required for this text. This book does not use trigonometry; for our advanced physics text, please see our other book, Physics: Modeling Nature."
  20. The Derek Owens course is reported to be based on Giancoli, which is an algebra-based physics. Corrected comment on Novare. They DO follow physics-first but the Introductory Physics does use some algebra. From their website: "Students should be enrolled in concurrent algebra I to use this book, which is standard track mathematics for 9th grade. We make our exercises challenging, requiring students to utilize multiple concepts and skills to arrive at an answer, but nothing higher than basic algebra is required for this text. This book does not use trigonometry; for our advanced physics text, please see our other book, Physics: Modeling Nature." I can't answer whether this would count as a more advanced physics. @regentrude Could you possibly help with this question? OP, there was recently a question about Saxon versus Derek Owens. I would check out that thread as well. (Saxon was not recommended). ETA: On WHA site, the second physics in their schedule is AP Physics, using these texts: College Physics for AP®Courses* OpenStax* Hardcover - 9781947172173 Digital - 9781938168932, Gregg Wolfe et al.
