They (Amy), is absolutely wonderful! She is a down to earth homeschooling mom just like the rest of us and has such a big heart for other homeschoolers. Thanks for sharing your story. Makes me like her products even more (if that could be possible LOL ) BTW, Hey ((Brittney))!

I coudln't recommend this curr. highly enough. :-) LOVE IT! I have used it with my kids and in a co-op setting. They provide many different schedules to use the book that would best fit your families needs. You can do it once a week and have it be a year long things, or do it in 6 weeks (and there are other schedule choices). Just LOVE IT! :-) ~Tina in WA

Five in a Row (revised vs. org. editions)
Tina in WA replied to Tina in WA's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks for all your help! I knew I could could count on you all! ~Tina -
Does anyone know the difference between the revised and org. editions of Five in a Row? Someone told me the difference was the cover. Is that the only difference? Thanks for you help! ~Tina

When you go to a particular section, just click on the upper right box on your tool bar and a drop down menu will appear, click on find on this page and enter in the item your looking for. Unfortunately that will only bring up the words in the titles, not the words within the post. Other than that, I know of no other way to search vegsourse. Hope someone else has a better idea. :)

I taught it using altier last year. It worked wonderfully! I taught 2 age levels: age 6-9 using level 3 & 4 and ages 10-13 using level 4 & 5. If memory serves me correctly I think we meet 27 times during the year and each class was 1 hour long. I would highly encourage you to purchase your paper from some place where you can get it large quantities. I purchased mine from Miller Pads and Paper during a summer convention. If you try to purchase it locally, you may not find anywhere that carries large qualities at a price that makes it cost effective for a co-op. I purchased 2 different sizes (9x12 & 12x18), because some projects use smaller sizes, but the larger size is used most. I made sure to do one of the clay projects as well. This way the kids used all different types of mediums. :) Kids had a blast and I didn't have to worry about much lesson planning since the video did all that for me. Just making sure I had the needed materials available for each lesson I choose to use with the children. Again, Atelier works GREAT in a co-op setting! If you have any other questions about using Atelier in a co-op setting, please feel free to contact me at any time. :) Have fun! ~Tina

We just became victims of our economy.....
Tina in WA replied to momof165's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I am sorry this has happened to you guys. I will definitely keep you in our prayers. I caught a little of Dobson's show last night (Financial Survival)and they were talking about these types of situation. I haven't heard it all yet, but I do plan on taking the time to listen. I thought I'd share it with you in case it is something that could help. It is from a Christian POV. Praying for you! -
Do you need the Teachers book for Writing Tales?
Tina in WA replied to Jules's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Yes, mam. :) -
Sequal books to Eragon...
Tina in WA replied to WTMindy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I was thinking... now where did they talk about having sex in the book? And what is written in the quote above is exactly it. It was very casual and not descriptive of the act itself, but wanting to look out for the honor of the one he loves. I agree with the violence comment as well! We loved all 3 books so far and can't wait for #4. :) I have children aged 8 to 13 and we listen to them on audio as well as have book copies. My 8 year old got bits and pieces of the book while we listened to it in the car. My 9 year old dd could care less for them and would much rather read horse books, etc. But the two older children enjoy this series immensely. -
Do you do GWG with your child? Are there tests & review?
Tina in WA replied to KIN's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
There is review in each lesson and at the end of each chapter (you "could" use this as a test) there is a larger review section. GWG is very easy for the teacher (aka mom) to jump in and read what is going on with the child's work if they are doing it independently. I correct the work with my child when they complete it. Sometimes (ok most of the time), I read the lessons with my children. They aren't long lessons and they are easy to understand. I spend no more than 5-10 min reading with my children. Can I just say again... I LOVE GWG! :) -

Need Opinions of Grwoing with Grammar....please!
Tina in WA replied to sweetsouthern's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
The writing we all are referring to isn't copywork. We are refering to formal writing. Therefore, writing(really formal writing) and copywork are 2 separate things. Copywork can be used for handwriting (practice letters), some use it for spelling, memorization of poems/quotes, etc. Writing (again formal writing) is teaching how to write sentences (punctuation, etc.), narrative papers, creative writing papers, etc. I think what your refering to as writing is more penmanship/handwriting practice. I "think" penwrite (don't know as I haven't seen this program before) would be more for penmanship/handwriting then formal writing (how to write a pragraph, etc.) If your 4th grader isn't ready for a formal writing program yet, don't worry about using one right now. My son wasn't ready until he was in 5th grade (and that was in the middle of 5th grade). Once they are able to write out a sentences/paragraph without much trouble, then introduce a formal writing program like Writing Tales. (one example is: you say a sentence or two and they can write it properly w/o help.) If you think GWG, spelling, and copywork are fine for him right now, just use those for now. Again, don't introduce a formal writing program until you feel he is ready for it. When his is ready, I believe WT is a gentle program to use. -
Need Opinions of Grwoing with Grammar....please!

Maybe it was Amy who recommended WT that I was remembering... UGH... I can't keep them straight! LOL :) Either way, Writing Tales and GWG go together wonderfully, IMHO. :) -
Need Opinions of Grwoing with Grammar....please!
Tina in WA replied to sweetsouthern's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I agree with Rebecca, you will need something else for writing. I love, love, love GWG, but I use Writing Tales for my 6th grader (and Spelling Wisdom for spelling) to round out grammar for him. If I remember (and am not mistaken), I have seen Tami recommend WT for a writing curr. I Love it because it provides the basics for grammar in short lessons that are easy to understand, AND doesn't require a lot of my help to get it done. -
I ordered mine with other stuff so I don't know for sure for just 1 item. I just did a mock order and mine was $9 too. :( I recently ordered 2 things (but 1 had 3 dvd's and a notebook) and the shipping was $7. It wouldn't hurt to ask if the shipping is correct on that item.

May not be exactly what you're looking for, but if you are looking at finance regarding business, I just purchased this and it looks wonderful: Your Business Math Series . I will be using it with my 11 & 13 year old. ETA: We will use the Pet Store one and see how we like them and perhaps do more. :)

Can you recommend a Latin Curriculum???
Tina in WA replied to Tree House Academy's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Latin in the Christian Trivium, but they don't recommend Latin until 12 years old or so. DD is in year 2 and really enjoys it. She is taking the online class this year and she really enjoys it. ~Tina -
Is Prince Caspian equivalent to say, Star Wars?
Tina in WA replied to cathmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
When in doubt, watch it first and then decide if your child should/could watch it. :) -
Here is a link to my blog explaining how we choose our homeschooling name: Jetihoja Academy

We did this for several years in a homeschool group I was involved in. Each child displayed their projects and as a group we allowed the child to explain their project if they desired. Then it was snacks and roaming to look at entries again. We closed with an award ceremony: each child got a certificate and a coupon somewhere (DQ, skate rink, etc.) We didn't have judges.

who here has used Home2Teach online classes for 9/10 year olds?
Tina in WA replied to Karie's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have used it for a few years now with my 8th grader. She really enjoys it and I have to say it has really helped her is other area's of academics where writing or reports are concerned. I haven't started my 6th grader with it yet because he got a slow start to reading. I think he will be ready to start in the fall though. We will definitely put him here if I decide to do a online writing class for him. HTH's~Tina -
