  1. I have homeschooled kindergarten through 4th grade so far...so 5 years so far!
  2. We listen to the CDs, do the map work, and the coloring page and that's it...no artsy projects because my ds refuses to do them.
  3. Wow, thank you for the in-depth review on this! The heavily-reformed point of view of Omnibus makes me a little wary too. I think it looks like a great curriculum and as much as I love the idea of a "great books" curriculum, I really want something that teaches from a biblical worldview and I think this might be it. Have you looked at "Starting Points"? Because I was thinking of starting with this for middle school.
  4. It sounds like the MP guide might be the best idea for a 5th grader. Thank you for all of your suggestions. So many choices....it drives me crazy sometimes! :willy_nilly:
  5. OK, now that I have a better idea of what Henle Latin entails...my next question is...do I go with the MP guide or the MODG guide? I know the MP guide goes slower but really...which is the more realistic pace? Is MP too slow or is MODG too fast? Are the guides similar in their structure? There are samples to look at for MP but I can't find any for MODG. Basically my issue is this: I plan to put ds in the Scholar's Online Latin program starting in 8th grade and he will continue through all 5 levels. So I have 3 years until then. We will be done with the LC series and ready to move to Henle this fall. So should I stretch Henle book 1 over 3 years or do it in 2 years and do Henle book 2 during the third year? AHHHHH!!!!!!!! I know it sounds like I am planning too far ahead but really, I am just trying to decide which guide to buy for next year (and also considering MP's online class). If you've read this far...thanks!!!
  6. Thank you for that link! I wonder if any teacher keys have been produced since the beginning as that seems to be the major complaint?
  7. I have pacing questions regarding Henle Latin as I am a little confused right now. On the Memoria Press website it recommends doing Henle Book 1- units 1&2 for one year. Then doing Book 1- units 3-5 for one year. Then it mentions that they carry Books 2, 3, and 4 but it doesn't say how long each of these books should take on average. Can someone give me an idea on this? Editing to add: I just foun dout that there are actually more untis beyond unit 5 in book one, which their website never mentions, so now I am really confused!
  8. OK, I didn't even realize that there were units beyond 1-5 in book one as they are never mentioned. We will be doing the middle school pacing as ds will be in 5th grade (but has had PL, LCI and LCII already). So I guess I should plan on more time for the rest of the units on book one!
  9. Both of these programs teach a biblical worldview and assign a literature, history and bible credit...at least that is what it seems from the samples. Can anyone compare these two or give opinions on either?

  11. We also do both. MUS is our primary program and we use Singapore's CWP books to supplement.
  12. I think the manual is pretty self-explanatory and I plan to use it in conjunction with the theme-based lessons they sell. I couldn't make it past the first video anyways....zzzzzz.....
  13. Definitely a P Zoo fan here! It is the only thing that has helped my ds learn to spell.
  14. That makes sense...thanks for clearing that up! I am looking forward to the new edition of your book....
  15. I am totally sold on the LCC method...it makes a lot of sense and is how I want to structure our day so we are slowly making the switch. We are halfway through LCII and I am confident in using Latin to teach grammar as well. My question is this: do any of you doing LCC keep a separate spelling program? Or do you just have your kids spell the Latin words and that is it? We have struggled with spelling all along. My ds is a fabulous reader and I thought that would translate to his spelling but it didn't. We tried a few different programs and nothing was working. This year we went with Phonetic Zoo Spelling from the folks at IEW and suddenly he is learning to spell! Now do I attribute this sudden leap in skill to PZ? Or to his growing maturity? Or to his growing reading abilities? All three? And if it is due to PZ alone, will doing only Latin for spelling and giving up PZ be a good idea? I like the multum non multa idea and want to limit the number of subjects we do but do them deeply so I don't want to keep an additional spelling program around just for the heck of it. OK, rant over. Any ideas?
  16. My oldest ds used 100EZ lessons and it worked like a charm. My youngest has used the LeapFrog videos to learn all his letters and sounds (I can't recommend these enough) and is now reading Bob books and he just turned 4yo. I don't really feel the need for all the bells and whistles of some of the other programs.
  17. We went last summer and we LOVED it! I would highly recommend it.
  18. What a great quote! That is exactly how I feel. I don't want ds to be a mile wide and an inch deep. I want to streamline our subjects but go really deeply into them.
  19. We are LCC-ish and love Latin...but...that doesn't mean everyone does or has to. For example, we don't do dictation...at all...ever...and that is sacrilege as well but it isn't our priority. If you want to do French, do French and don't feel guilty!
  20. Lately, I have become more of an LCC girl. We do Latin, Math, Writing and Piano every day. All other subjects are once a week.
  21. Favorite novel of all time: Beloved by Toni Morrison Best book I've read lately: Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
  22. OMG...I was truly ROTFLOL at that one! ETA: I actually saw the Superhero moving this past weekend and in the context of the movie the clip from the OP is even funnier!
  23. My sentiments exactly. Memorization of facts that are the pegs on which you can hang later learning is important. Rote memorization of lists just for the sake of memorizing makes no sense to me. I never memorized all the presidents and I am an intelligent, educated professional so I think my kids will be fine.
  24. We used Saxon 5/4 and it made my son cry every day. Math was the worst part of the day. We switched to MUS and have never looked back. It is the perfect curriculum for us!
