  1. I was on the PHP website but I didn't see anything stating whether CD's of the workshops would be available at a later date. Has anyone heard anything? I'm so bummed that I can't go...
  2. I don't have experience w/ the other mill mentioned but I love my Nutrimill! I've been using it for the past 6 months; it's easy to clean and grinds very well. It is a little noisy so I just do my grinding out on the back patio.
  3. This is totally off topic but I can't stop but envisioning the old MTV show "Celebrity Death Match" and a little claymation SWB giving this other author a good old fashioned beatdown! I don't know why because I never really watched the show... We all know that SWB is much to classy for that however.
  4. If you like Christian fiction, our bookclub really enjoyed The Hawk and the Dove by Penelope Wilcock (one of my all time favorites) and The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers (we just read the 1st two.) All are great books for discussion.
  5. Bill, I love all your cooking advice. You need to write a WTM Cookbook! :lurk5:
  6. I tried the recipe that I found her on the boards but the lentils had a split pea soup consistency. The flavor was great but the picture I saw looked a little "firmer." I wasn't sure which lentil to use to I picked up red lentils and soaked them for about 20 minutes before cooking them. I'd like to try them again so anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong? http://www.recipezaar.com/Honey-Baked-Lentils-58598
  7. So it's not just my son?? I dread picking up math again after a break (like these past 2 weeks.) The blank stares, as if I'm speaking in an entirely different language drive me crazy. I get frustrated then go to the old standby...say the instructions LOUDER so there's a chance he'll suddenly remember the material again! :D
  8. Great article! I was an only child so my mom just cannot understand my 3 boys. She is convinced that they're destined for reform school. They don't always jump up and greet her and are usually arguing/fighting or causing chaos somewhere in the house. I try and explain that it's really just normal boy behavior but she still doesn't believe me. We have tea with her about once a month (to give them a little culture) and that seems to appease her for awhile. :D I should pass this article onto her...
  9. I was just thinking of recommending Fahrenheit 451 for our upcoming bookclub. I've never read it but I'm looking forward to...
  10. Ok, I've read Spy Car's directions for making "perfect" rice but I just can't visualize how he determines the water level. If I put my thumb at the level of the rice, then move my index finger up the the level of the rice, aren't both fingers at the same level?? Am I suppose to add water?? I know...I'm somewhat challenged but I'm a visual kind of gal! :D
  11. Our family is in the process of looking for a new church and recently visited a small Nazarene church just down the street that was recommended by a friend. We enjoyed it very much but neither my husband nor I know much about the Nazarene faith. We come from a non-denominational background and have heard that there might be some doctrinal differences from what we're used to; the potential to lose one's faith & female pastors were two things mentioned. At this particular church, all the pastors were male except for the Children's Ministry lady who they called the "Children's Pastor." I'm not trying to start any philosophical debate; just looking for some input. We did look at the church's statement of faith and beliefs and it appeared to be very solid. We also have a message into the pastor to ask a few questions but being Easter week, we probably won't be able to speak to him until next week.
  12. Unless you're coming out in June; then all bets are off! :D
  13. You can get discount tickets for Legoland at Costco (possibly also Sea World.) Keep in mind that if you do go to Legoland, entrance to the Aquarium is an additional fee. The waterpark area is free however. The rides are geared for little kids and aren't that big which makes the wait time extra long (because they can't get many kids on the ride at one time.) Personally, I think older kids get bored there easily. Sometimes the local grocery stores will have coupons for discounts to Sea World so that's worth looking for.
  14. This is the plan so far: Math U See Delta supplemented w/ CWP GWG 3 WWE 3 SWR for spelling SOTW 2 & 3: we'll finish up 2 then move onto 3 Explorer's Bible Study Still deciding about Latin; possibly Lively Latin?? Science, Art & other electives at coop.
  15. He says it's boring. He's able to memorize the vocabulary and prayers just fine so I know it's not too difficult for him. That's why I'm wondering if it's just not engaging enough?? I don't want to let him off easy and stop doing it but I don't want him to hate it either. I've heard good things about Lively Latin so that's what got me to rethinking LCI.
  16. Latin curriculums seem to be the topic of the day! My son is almost through Prima Latina and has basically complained the entire year. He's been taking a class through a coop with a dad he really likes. He complains however when I mention his coop class and at home when we're doing follow up work. I'm getting ready to purchase next year's curriculum but I'm having second thoughts about moving him into Latina Christiana. He generally doesn't fight or complain about doing school so I'm wondering if he really just doesn't like this particular curriculum (even though I do.) He can definitely handle the work and I know SWB wrote that if your student complains or cries everytime you're using a curriculum, it might be time to change. Has anyone had any similiar experiences or moved to another curriculum that they really liked?
  17. I meant to add that I've never had one day with either of my boys where they cried or complained about doing math! Latin yes...math no...so yet another reason why I think MUS is awesome. :D
  18. That's exactly what I'm doing w/ my oldest boys; MUS supplemented w/ CWP. I have been very pleased w/ the results so far. My oldest is breezing through multiple digit multiplication. We've had a little hiccup or two but not really a problem. We watch the dvd together and the beginning of the lesson. My oldest is more of a "Sociable Sue" and my middle is definitely a "Wiggly Willy." There is no flash to the workbooks however; just black and white but my boys could care less. If you do a search, Sue from St. Pete has a very good, in depth review of MUS. I say definitely give it a try!
