  1. Do you use a ruberic of some sort, or do you figure it out per paper? BTW regentrude, your posts on this are so helpful. I appreciate it!:001_smile: Dorinda
  2. We were posting at the same time. That is SO helpful! That's what I was thinking too. Just out of curiosity, do you do any grammar in High School before you're done? Or just on an as needed basis?
  3. Our main Curriculum this year is Ambleside Online year 6 Rod and Staff 7 for Grammar and some writing IEW the Elegant Essay and WWTB for other writing That is great. It gives me a place to start! Oh no! Your course description was perfect! I don't know why it's so difficult for me to wrap my mind around this? Maybe because I've never had to answer to anyone? We're going by MO law because that's where we'll be eventually this year, and they say 100 hours = 1 credit in a subject. They also say 600 hours has to be spent on the following courses, "reading, language arts, math, social studies and science." So that threw me too. I'm figuring reading and language arts would then combine and be 200 hours since there's so much to cover. I've printed out threads talking about MO, but it's kind of Greek to someone that's only requirement has been to keep a calendar with 180 highlighted on it in case someone ever asks. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions are MORE than appreciated! Dorinda
  4. Here's my question part two :001_smile: How do you grade English in Jr High and High School? Does your grammar count as much as your writing? We've been separating everything out so I'd have one grade for grammar, one grade for vocab etc. How are you determining an English grade for your student? Thanks! Dorina
  5. Yes, I will be moving to a state where we have to report. Also, I think those who wait until it's absolutely necessary are behind the power curve. I'd rather learn now, while I have the time, and give myself two years to develop a plan, and tweak it, than wait until this time two years from now and be under the gun. Thanks! Dorinda
  6. I'm trying to wrap my brain around this transition. I was wondering if someone would be able to help me. I know in High School, an English credit would encompass Grammar, Composition, Oral communication and Literature. But what does it look like in Jr High? Do you think it's OK to split it in half in Jr High? Maybe have two courses, Grammar and Composition, and a separate Literature course? Or do you think it's better to combine at this stage? :bigear: Thanks! Dorinda
  7. Thanks Carmen! OK, so I ordered FLL 3 for youngest. I think she NEEDS the foundation it will give us for 4. Even if the first couple of units are too easy, it will do her good. For my oldest, I'm dropping TLP, but keeping it for ideas for me (discussion questions) And, I really like the idea of using WWTB for a break in the spring. Thanks Lynn! Off to ask a different question on another thread! :tongue_smilie: Thanks for all your help! Dorinda
  8. Hey Marychance! Welcome and BTW, I love your pic. I've been think it for a couple of days. :) We have homeschooled from the beginning and intend to homeschool to the end. We do it for a number of reasons, but the main one is, obviously, it works for us.:001_smile: I might come back later and expound, but since it's Saturday. . .OOPs! Sunday morning, I can't trust myself to explain it coherently. But Welcome! Don't be scared off by some of the other threads BTW. We love a good debate here. Blessings! Dorinda
  9. I'm not talking about the Indy fundy, I just meant Sovereign. Sorry I wasn't clear! I meant what you're saying, but being the good Baptist that I am, I've been drinking a little and I don't think I'm coming across clearly. :D STOP IT!!!!!! You are killing me!
  10. OUR Baptist church does not support boycotts. Baptist churches are independent from each other. Each one is sovereign. Just because SOME Baptist churches boycotted, doesn't mean all did or all agreed with the boycott. That's all I was saying. And, here in NM, it wasn't the Baptists that boycotted, it was the independent evangelical churches. I hate generalizations. I am still not offended it's just hard to explain over the internet without sounding defensive.:001_smile:
  11. It was a number of Evangelical groups, not just Baptist. I'm not offended, but I feel the need to defend my church since we ARE Baptist and we don't support boycotts of ANY type. :001_smile: :iagree: Maybe we should just ban them for shaving chickens?
  12. You will have better luck at homeschoolclassifieds.com I buy things and post things on the For Sale Board here, but the majority of my sales happen on homeschoolclassifieds. Blessings! Dorinda
  13. In the theme of Matthew McConoughay, The Wedding Planner is on Netflix! ps I purchased Ghosts of Girlfriends Past at my local used video store. tee hee!
  14. Hello Ladies! We did FLL 1 and part of two for 1st grade. She wasn't ready for 3, and I assumed I would put her in Rod and Staff in 4th grade (what I did with her sister). Instead, we did part of Primary Language Lessons, and Rod and Staff for 2nd. Then, for 3rd, we did BJU. DD learned and retained absolutely nothing and has a loathing for R&S that has made me realize we shouldn't try it at all. So, I'm going to put her in FLL, but I need to know if she should be in 3 or 4. I was going to put her in 3, but I saw 4 at Barnes and Noble today and now I'm not sure where I should place her. TIA! Dorinda
  15. I know others don't care for HSLDA, and see them in a different light, but I don't and that's what I would do. Like I said before, if you've never lived in a hostile school district, you probably won't get it. I live in a district that has made it us against them and that's why I would react in this way.
  16. You did it again! I dare you to post a third time!
  17. That's so interesting! Do you have Forks over Knives? I bought it thinking it would help us out with my dd's food allergies, but she can't eat a lot of the things in it. What made you decide to take the journey? :bigear:
