I don't even think it was 2 days from when I replied to a thread about how things had been fine so far with 100% school in person to when my ds fell ill. It came on suddenly. Just got his test back today. He is feeling weak with a heavy chest. But, he seems better than the first 3 days. Yeah quarantine! Kelly

I'm trying to see the down side to this. How great would it be to not have all of the campaign mailings, emails, calls, texts, candidates in the state. Half kidding 🙂

Yes! I absolutely felt that way when listening to Dave Ramsey, Dr Laura, political shows. So true...

Yes, I have had major changes in belief. They have come about in different ways. 1. I decided several years ago to not say "I can't understand how someone can believe..." or "I can't understand how someone can be an alcoholic, drug abuser, child abuser, adulterer..." I am not saying I think those are good things to be, but I can understand how they happen. I might not agree with someone's beliefs, but I can try to understand them. It can open me up to see the error in my beliefs, or it can help me be a sympathetic person who helps change someone else. It helps me see the humanity in almost everyone. I have to admit that there are still times I cannot comprehend someone. 2. Someone reacted in a way I was not expecting. After some time I was able to take another look at the situation and see why they reacted that way. It sometimes meant a change in my views, other times it showed me there was more than one answer. 3. Black Lives Matter/Systemic Racism/Unconscious bias- This probably started a few years ago when Philando Castile was killed in MN. I couldn't wrap my head around it. It planted the seed. This year starting with George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Arbey I couldn't pretend that all lives mattered anymore. Something that shocked me one day while I watched House Hunters. There was a black woman buying a house and she said, "I don't want a project." How many time is that said on that show? Every episode! But, I heard " I don't want the projects" and assumed housing projects. I felt so embarrassed by that thought process. 4. Deciding that I'm not hurt by something but others are. It isn't always about me. In fact as a Christian it should never be about me. I will try to err on the side of grace more than anything. I might find all of the alternate pronoun stuff difficult to catch on to or comfortable, but if someone tells me to call them by a certain pronoun I will because it isn't about my comfort. It helps mr be more compassionate and understanding. ETA: 5. I used to listen to talk radio all.the.time. I couldn't figure out why I was agitated all day. I was stressed, on edge... I realized it was talk radio. They were always the victim, yelled a lot, argued... It was affecting my mental health. I stopped listening to it and am much calmer. That's all, I think 🙂 Kelly

I was surprised they didn't send my dd 15 home from school also since she is exposed to him at home. The school didn't even request he be tested. They said to see what the doctor says. I told him to let the doctor know that we want to be as careful as possible so we would be more than happy to test. Kelly
-
Well crap, my ds 17 was just sent home sick with fever, chills, head ache, congestion. ETA: My places of employment don't take these things seriously so I know they will want me to work even if he gets a Covid test. I'm not even sure what they would say if his came back positive. Ugh 😞

Anyone want to join me on a 21 day Complaint Free challenge?
SquirrellyMama replied to Pen's topic in The Chat Board
No, I don't. It is October, which is usually the most beautiful month, and it is 34 degrees with snow coming. I am not feeling "no complaints". I'm cold 🥶 Kelly -
I was snoozing a couple of people because they were sharing conspiracy theories and just being intentionally obtuse. I finally blocked one. I just couldn't take her attitude in the weeks of my father's illness and after his death. My dad didn't die of Covid but was released from the hospital before he should have been because of a large number of Covid patients. Anyway, this person keeps saying that no one dies of Covid, or it doesn't matter if the elderly die of Covid, and will ask if someone was overweight if they died of Covid. I couldn't do it anymore. They are looking for people to work in the school food service. I almost want to get a job just so I can give kids their lunch even if they are negative. I'm sure I would get fired real quick. Kelly
-
And, he did get the regular lunch, he just happened to get an extra entree which isn't covered. He is always hungry. I just didn't know it was low. I used to have it on auto renew but had some issues with the system. If they are going to throw it away just let the kid eat it. Or, set up the system to check kids in at the beginning of the line so they don't take food that they can't have. That's what out set up was in school.
-
I know this has been talked about before, but I find it really frustrating. My son came home and told me that when he went through the lunch line yesterday his account was negative and they threw away his food. He wasn't starving since this was an extra portion, but he is my 17 year old, 6 foot boy. When he told me I thought we were way under. Usually, I get an email warning me when we are getting low, but never got one. We were a whole $1.25 negative. If they are going to throw it away, why not just let the kid eat it. His art teacher gave him a pop tart to supplement 🙂 He is back in the black and can eat as much as he wants. I better keep better track if I'm not getting the reminder emails. Fortunately, he wasn't mortified, at least he didn't say he was. Kelly

Thank you, I kept looking at German sites. I am stressed and didn't think about the US Embassy. Well, sh!t.
-
Has Germany opened their borders to US residents? I hace been Googling but can't find anything after August. I thought I had heard they opened up in September. There is more to behind this question than I have time to explain. Thank you to anyone with information. Kelly

I voted other. I have had the flu twice that were diagnosed. Once in college when I thought I was going to die, I was so sick. So, so sick. The 2nd time wasn't too bad, but I was definitely sick. I have gotten flu shots in the past, but many years I did not. I can't tell you if the years I got them it was helpful or not since I didn't get the flu every year I didn't have the shot. I will be getting the flu shot, because I am convinced it is a help to others that I don't get the flu. Either because I won't be passing the flu on to others or because I won't end up in the hospital with the flu. At least, that is the hope. Kelly

I'm working on the FAFSA, and I just got to the parent's assets question. Right now we have an extra 15,000 in the checking from insurance checks due to storm damage. That money will be gone within the month to fix our damaged roof. In the grand scheme of college payment $15000 isn't that much, but will it hurt us on the application? Kelly

This thread will self-destruct in...

I can't imagine anything on here that I would try to ruin someone over. And, I disagree with people from time to time. Majorly disagree, but not to the point of calling them out irl. I'm sorry this happened. People suck 😞 Kelly -
Agreed, and on the surface you can't always tell the difference. If you get a vibe, I think it is appropriate to listen to it.

I tried to edit my original post and it ended up as an extra blank post.

I think you all are giving too much credit to 12-13 yr old boy cluelessness. I was molested by a 13 year old boy when I was 8. He was not clueless. I have a teen son, so I know how clueless a boy can be. But, if I found out he was filming random people I would have taken away anything he could record with for a long time. If someone had come onto MY property, filming MY young kids I would have been all over that. I don't care if his mom told him not to answer stranger's questions. She should have taught him not to film kids he doesn't know. I would be fine if my questions scared him off for good. Just to keep people from calling me a helicopter mom, I wasn't. My kids rode their bikes all over town, went to their friends houses alone, went to the library alone, blah, blah, blah. I did, however, monitor interactions with older kids. I also monitored the interactions my young teens had with younger kids. I didn't want something inappropriate happening or a miscommunication that was deemed inappropriate. Kelly

My dd 15 has a business making jewelry, bookmarks, upcycling clothing... She was going to start a Square account so she could take card payments. Unfortunately, she has to be 18. Which POS systems have you all used? There are several. Looking for recommendations of real life experience. I also thought about opening the square account for her. I wasn't sure how that would affect our taxes. I assume we have to claim it then if it is under my name? Kelly
