  1. Bobbi Brown is great for the over 40 crowd, as is Chanel. To me, a great non drying concealor, neutral eyeshadow but full lashes and a "your lipcolor but better" lipstick is key. Cream blush and tinted mositurizers are very kind to over 40 skin.
  2. Rats have gotten rave reviews from my friends. I personally hate ferrets. My old roommate had one and it ruined a bunch of my stuff with its smell. It was horrible.
  3. I second Brooks Brothers, I love their shirts on DH. They have outlet stores as well. I also love Nodies, try them the week after Christmas for some great sales.
  4. Thanks to everyone. I have a lot of info to think about and I will be sharing these ideas with my sister.
  5. Thank you for all the advice. He is medicated and he has seen a neurologist for some of his testing. And he does have an IEP and he still receives sped services. I just meant he was mainstream in his classes but he does still qualify and receive sped services....more time for tests, and he is given a bit of a lighter course load. I will have her look into the adult disability option, but he seems to fall into a grey area.
  6. I think you have to be a person who loves slow cooking, either in the oven or on the stovetop. It makes the best roasts, casseroles, soups and stews. You need to be cooking with liquid so it doesn't burn. I love my cast iron skillet, but LC enamel doesn't need to be seasoned and I find that slow cooking with liquid was tough on my Lodge dutch oven. It needed to be reseasoned too often.
  7. A pair of Frye boots, Macbook Pro and a Vitamix blender.
  8. A good website that has great toning Piilates videos (free) is blogilates. Also check out the youtube channel for the Tone It Up Girls.
  9. I love them bc I hate clutter so we consume and move on. And they feel decadent and are usually treats we don't usually get to have. So, win-win.
  10. I have a bear build a bear with army outfit. Boys clothes sizes 10-14, nice condition. Lots of knex pieces, odds and ends.....no guides. Some 3rd-5th grade level books. Land before time VHS movies ( i think i have most of them), and a few other toddler/young elem. age vhs movies. Some new Crayola Wonder packs.
  11. No because I think it causes resentment to ask someone to give up a career they love. My husband has been military and law enforcement for over 20 years. I worry but not to the extreme. Life is full of surprises and the friends we've lost have actually been accidents, cancer, heart attacks and such rather than on the job.
  12. At 40, the money you spend on hair color and a good cut is worth its weight in gold. I do a weekly manicure. A nice nude and a top coat of seche vite and I'm chip free all week. Clothes that fit and flatter. I work out 4-5 times a week, nothing says youth like a perky behind. Lunges and squats and lots of running. A great sunscreen for day (I use the pricey but worth it Shesiedo) and a good cream for every night. This ranges from Retin A, to an AHA from the Drugstore to Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Also chemical peels help. A good mild one is Mandealic acid. Lastly, white teeth and long eyelashes. I use Target brand whitestrips when my teeth look yellowish. And long and full lashes are so youthful. I can't afford latisse but if you can, it makes a huge improvement. Finally,makeup.....less powder and more tinted mositurizers and cream blushes. More fleshy pinks and corals and less harsh reds and browns. Clinique butter surge and Revlon lipbutters are glossy and not heavy. And finally, nothing is as youthful as a confident woman who is comfortable in her own skin, loves life and still feels young on the inside. It radiates from within and you can't fake it or buy it:) PS almost forgot one ofthe most important things! A great fitting bra that keeps the ladies on the northern hemisphere. A trip to Nordstom and spending more for a Wacoal bra can really help. I bought a minimizer that actually fit me perfectly and was asked for a month if I had " lost weight".
  13. Just want to say your story brought tears to my yes. I am sorry for your loss. And a little worried for your BIL who seems to have found himself in an odd situation with this lady. I was very understanding of the situation from your OP, but your update seems like he should be wary of this new woman. But there isnt anything you can do but hope and pray for the best. Hugs to you:grouphug:
  14. DS, 13, was just diagnosed with anemia. Apparently it is diet related (he's a vegetarian) and he's now beginning iron supplements. For about a year now he has been grumpy, tired alternated with hyper and impossible to keep on task and in his seat. I have found out these can all be signs of anemia (he has had a very energetic and high maintenance personality all of his life, so it hard to tell where that stops and the anemia begins). It can also impair cognitive abilities. And yes, lately he has had trouble with memorizing things he could have easily done 2-3 years ago. Has anyone has a similar experience with their child? And if so, how long did it take for your child to return to "normal" after iron supplements?
  15. Due to participating in a very demanding science club, I am in need of a simple, non demanding science curriculum this year. Middle school appropriate, and covering biology, earth science, chemistry. It could be online or a mix of things. Thanks:)
  16. Both of my kids have had tonsils, adenoids out and ear tubes put in. Very simple, home right afterwards and minimal pain. A few days of popsicles, tylenol and they were back to normal in 3 days or so.
  17. Week 5, Day 1. DS just turned 13, 7th grade. First yr HSing, and I am a novice at grading writing. Input appreciated! In 356 BC, one of the bravest men in history was born to Phillip II, King of Macedonia and Olympia, his wife. Alexander began showing his courage at age 10, when Phillip II set out to buy a horse. Bucephalus, an unmanageable horse, caught Alexander's eye. Alexander promised his father he would buy it if he couldn't ride it, but his father had to buy it if he could ride it. Shortly after examining the horse, Alexander decided Bucephalus was afraid of his own shadow so, without fear, he hoisted himself up, turned the horse around , and rode Bucephalus into the sun. From 13 years old to 16, Alexander was taught by Aristotle, the greatest philosopher of the time. Aristotle created Alexander's main thirst for history, medicine, philosophy and much more. Years later, in 339 BC, fearless Alexander set off with his father to claim victory in the Battle of Chaerona. After some time, Phillip II was assassinated by Paulanias, his own bodyguard. This tragedy had minor effects on Alexander's thirst of the throne. At 20 years old he climbed to the throne and had all threats of his reign executed. Immediately, Greek cities began to rebel because of what they thought of Alexander. He quickly conquered the cities back. Even though Alexander was young, nothing stopped him from persisting on and conquering a vast amount of land. Do you think he is much below grade level? Do you think WWS will give the structure and practice he needs for improvement? Thank you. I has posted this in the WWS thread earlier not knowing it was just for sharing.
  18. I read on another MB that they suspect neighborhood boys:confused:
