  1. Me me me! Raising my hand! DS has it, but we are not at the surgery stage yet. If/when we do get there, I am fortunate to live near the hospital of the Dr who perfected that surgery. Our ped told us he would not recommend surgery until age 12. His PE is benign mostly. It doesn't cause any major problems for him. He has been to a ped cardiologist twice(age 2 and 4), and they gave him the all clear. He does have chest pains sometimes, though. Usually related to physical activity. The sad thing for me is that his friends are starting to ask what's wrong with his chest. I have been explaining that we are all different, and he's just made that way. And he seems fine with that at this point. I would hate to see it affect his self esteem.
  2. Her favorite sentences are ones where an animal sits on someone. :lol: "The fat cat sat on my dad" or "The big dog sat on my mom"
  3. My DD is the same. One thing that works for her is to make flash cards with a word on each one, and we take turns rearranging them and making the silliest sentences possible. She loves this.
  4. We are using these, and DS LOVES them. He asks to do pages everyday. We have the 2nd,3rd, and 4th grade ones. He is on the 3rd grade one now. They are pretty easy, but not too "kiddie" in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/Map-Skills-Today-Grade-Traveling/dp/B001FC4F76/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226427415&sr=8-11
  5. About 3 hours a day. We have lots of distractions here, too. So we school from about 9am until 2pm with many breaks.
  6. :iagree: Yes, what they said. And if you are in ear-shot of the lesson, you will hear the guy say "no, sorry that's not right".
  7. Not creepy at all. I'm just afraid it would die. It eats dandelions, though. And we do have plenty of those in the yard. :lol:
  8. It's a giant leopard caterpillar/moth. It hibernates in winter, so we will be letting it go. I haven't told that to DD yet. She will not be happy. :tongue_smilie: http://butterflies.heuristron.net/moths/leopard.html
  9. It's big, solid black, and very fuzzy/hairy. They want to keep it (we have a butterfly pavilion) and wait for it to turn into a butterfly. It seems very late in the season for it to turn into a butterfly in our areas(va). So I'm thinking it doesn't really have a chance outside, or I wouldn't even entertain the idea of bringing it inside. Is it possible to keep it until does it's thing? I know they eat milkweed, but we don't have any to feed him. What else can he eat? ETA: I found info on what they caught! This thing is amazing, and so pretty! Not exactly a butterfly. http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek020608.html
  10. We love it! I was going to wait for TT4, but decided we couldn't wait for that. So I got level 5, and I'm so glad I did! DS is already half way through that and will need level 6 by Feb. He is really enjoying the program. I usually sit with him, or listen in on his lesson. If I feel like he needs extra practice on something, I will download a worksheet. And we supplement with other math just for fun.
  11. Unfortunately, no. :crying: I've been dwelling on that a lot lately, too. I've had a few BFF over the years, but we've always grown apart for various reasons. I'm pretty shy, so it's hard for me to make new friends. Plus I'm stuck in the house all day with my daycare, and that makes it hard to meet people.
  12. I'm doing the free 30 day trial of discovery streaming to see if this will be something we will use a lot. I want to start the elementary spanish with DS, but I'm confused on how to implement this. Do I have to do a search every time we start a lesson? For example :elementary spanish grade 3-4 unit 1 lesson 1. I did this for all the lessons, and then added them to "my content". When I went to "my content" you can't tell what lesson is what. You still have to click on it.:glare: There HAS to be an easier way, I just can't figure it out. Also, how are you scheduling the lessons? One video per day? One whole lesson per day? What do you print from the teacher manual? thanks!!
  13. DS is almost 8 year old. We have been using SFC, but I'd like to put it away until he's a bit older and can use it more independently. Over the summer he was using our library's free rosetta stone version, but they have since stopped providing that. I have looked at the discovery streaming "elementary spanish" but it's hard to tell how parent involved that is. Any more suggestions?
  14. :scared::scared::scared: I don't know what I would do without mine.
  15. It was fun at 1st, but now I'm dreading this everyday. I really have no interest in foreign language, so it makes it hard for me to teach. But it's very important to me that my kids to speak another language. I don't want to give up on this program. I just feel like I need some more ideas on teaching it. So far we have been taking it really slow (1 chapter every 2 weeks). We make up flashcards for each chapter, and listen to the CD. What else can we do?
  16. I would go for it! As long as the children are enjoying it, I think it sounds like an amazing opportunity.
  17. I have a home daycare, so I'm working and HS'ing at the same time. It can be a juggling act, but it brings in money and allows me to be at home.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I do stress the importance of him showing his work, but I think he feels super smart when he does them in his head and people are amazed. :tongue_smilie: The in-laws and my family too, love to give him complicated math problems and watch him solve them before they can. It's created a math monster!:lol: I'm not sure how to take him down a notch without damaging self esteem. So for him math school work, I usually compromise with him by letting him do it in his head 1st and then showing the work.
