  1. This will be our 5th year HSing. My DS is 10 1/2, and is going into 5th grade. He just completed TT7, so we will move on to the next level of TT for math. But I need to figure out the rest. My concern is that I work (from home mostly) 50 hours or more a week. So I can't have anything that's teacher intensive AT ALL. It needs to be something he can do on his own. He reads at a high school level. And has all his grammar down pat. He does need work at composing a good story that's more than one page, though. We have used Writing Tales the last 2 years. Anything we use will need to be secular. So I am open to any type of curriculum, for any subjects, that teaches the child (like TT does). Thanks for any help!
  2. Thanks! I will do that. We tried k12 last year, and it just wasn't for us. He is a pretty good independent learner.

  4. Ooops! Wrong board. so sorry.
  5. This will just be supplemental. And I'm open to reviews on any subject....math, LA, science. Just looking for something fun, and engaging.
  6. DS is getting ready to finish up Writing Tales level 1. He is in 3rd grade but doing 4-6th grade work. Would the "town" series be good for him? We really enjoyed writing tales, but are just looking to switch it up a bit.
  7. I see no shame in improving anything about yourself (physical, mental, spiritual) if it makes you feel good.
  8. We pay $70 a month here.....and I thought that was expensive. Yikes! I agree that it should be much cheaper.
  9. Craigslist for buying and selling, or freecycle to give and get for free. I do both. If the clothes/shoes are in new condition, I will try to sell them. But otherwise, I put them on freecycle.
  10. I would offer to ship it if she wants to paypal you.
  11. DS wants to name ours Big Brain Academy. Can you tell he is a Wii fan?
  12. Oooo! That does look good! *I must resist. I must resist. We don't need another science program. I must resist*
  13. This is what I have sent in for the last 3 years.....without a problem: Learning is a lifestyle in our home and every moment is an opportunity for learning. In addition to this lifestyle of learning, Jacob will be doing 3rd grade coursework in the following subjects: Math, Language Arts, Geography, Handwriting, History, Science, Spelling, and Spanish. In his studies we will make use of the library, field trips, videos, computer curriculum, and other resources that we deem useful.
  14. Oh, okay. I thought the person meant that whole curriculum was new. We used it last year when DS (highly gifted *tested with WISC IV*) was 7. We will not continue with it this year, because we both tend to get board easy, and like to switch things up. The only thing with that program that didn't work great with DS was the story writing requirements. He was getting frustrated with it. I switched him to Writing Tales, and he did a complete 360. We will be sticking with that program for a good long while.
  15. It's been around for a few years. And I think it's a great program. We used the 7-9 last year and really enjoyed it :)
  16. We have had one for about 1 1/2 years. It's cute, fun, and super easy to use and upload. My only complaint is that you can't zoom. DS loves it, and uses it all the time. I would recommend it for kids/teens that want to make videos, but not for parents who want to capture home movies.
  17. I used http://www.olsenbooks.com/index.html Writing Tales with DS for the last half of this year with amazing results. He went from barely writing a short paragraph (and not being happy about doing that). To writing 2 wonderful pages with ease, and no complaints. And all of this in about 5 weeks. I was showing my mom DS's writing just the other day, and she was amazed at the transformation too.
  18. :D Me! I have one on my lower tummy (blue birds), one one my lower back (butterfly), and I'm almost done with my HUGE back piece (an owl).
  19. We are doing WT 1 and FLL3. DS really like WT, and his writing has improved 150%. We both find FLL quite boring, but will stick with it.

  21. I did it for the last 2 years, and I started out charging $125 week for mon-fri, 9 hours a day. After the 1st year I raised it to $150 per week. I charged high for my area, though. $100 per week is average for home daycare in my area.
  22. This person is planning a homeschool trip in oct and nov. Cost looks reasonable to me. We might do the nov one. http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/travel.htm
