  1. I use a cast iron skillet and bamboo utensils for cooking scrambled eggs.
  2. In general, I think it is a "Southern" thing to visit unannounced. I don't think you should read the visit as "pushy" unless something they said made you feel that way. If you don't want visits, skipping the visitor information cards is a good idea, and also, just tell the person who visits.
  3. I'm guessing it would be bad, especially if you added sugar to it. Can you cut the recipe to 2/3?
  4. As a protestant, I have no problem whatsoever with the CLAA saying its beliefs are right and protestants are in error. I would also have no problem if it stated the CLAA would accept only Catholics. However, considering that most of the founding fathers of logic, philosophy and classical education were polytheists, I find it interesting it believes that only Catholics can have a "genuine" classical education. "He who defines the terms, wins the argument," seems to apply in this situation.
  5. We pick up more digital channels than we were able to get on analog, and we live in a remote location. Strangely enough, we're picking up two or three stations that are 100 miles or more away. When we used to get barely watchable channels before the conversion, we now get a very clear picture.
  6. Just a warning that might not have been clear by metrodorus: make sure you look for the "reviewed" readers. I've been following discussion about the readers on one of the Latin e-lists, and apparently there are many poorly written readers on the Tar Hill main site. If you are looking for quality readers and are not sure how to discern them, you will need to stick with Laura's list.
  7. If all of the caterpillars don't hatch out, don't give up on them (unless you have a situation like the above poster). I've had them overwinter before, even in the middle of the summmer, and they hatched out just fine in the spring.
  8. My parents are the worst about doing this to me, and it makes me furious. Please tell her ASAP.
  9. We find swallowtail butterfly caterpillars on parsley plants every year. Usually, they slow down their eating when they are about to shed their skin or make their cocoon. You need to place a stick in the habitat so it has something to hang on. Then, you can place the stick into the container into which you want it to hatch out. Move the container as little as possible until "she" hatches, though I've even taken mine on car rides to a "sitter" while we were on vacation.
  10. I think it is best to focus on one language's grammar at a time when you are first introducing them. I don't think there is any harm in getting her familiar with the Greek alphabet, though. My 7yo and 4yo have been learning the Greek letters and sounds over the last few months.
  11. Wow, this seems to have happened to multiple people. I've cleaned out my cart!
  12. I keep items in my cart all the time, and they have never been ordered "automatically." I take this to mean if you are in the process of submitting an order and your computer locks up, it can still go through. I don't think it is possible for the items to order themselves, so to speak, just because they are in the cart???
  13. I've been printing out daily puzzles from http://www.printable-puzzles.com/printable-logic-puzzles.php. They have easy and hard ones.
  14. I ordered from amazon.com a couple of weeks ago and chose free shipping. They split my order into three shipments, but I received them all within a week. Two of them arrived priority mail. I haven't had any trouble with the main company, though the "marketplace" can be hit or miss.
  15. In the past, they have offered free shipping on anything they didn't have in stock at the fair.
  16. I have to hide any books I plan to use for read-alouds, or else my daughter doesn't want to read it with me (she'll read it a dozen times).
  17. We suspended our satellite service about 3 weeks ago. We have a Netflix subscription (they have all kinds of shows/movies you can watch instantly 24/7) and an antenna/digital converter box. I haven't missed it at all. DH is still going through ESPN withdrawal, though. The only thing I am missing is the DVR service. I may have to learn to work the VCR again!
  18. BTW, I just listed CW as a comparison of the price differences. The OP was looking for Living Memory.
  19. I was excited for a minute, until I saw it was still Lulu selling it on amazon.com and they had jacked up the price to compensate for the lower shipping prices  Still, it might still come out cheaper for international orders. I looked up the Classical Writing: Homer book, and it is about $12 more on amazon. It doesn't say if they are shipping it media mail or priority, but for those prices, it should be priority.
  20. You could also use shampoo in a pinch. I've seen shampoo recommended as an alternative to lingerie detergent. I've tried it, and it works fine.
  21. I taught my daughter (then 5) to swim fairly easily. Admittedly, her stroke is terrible (and she is too stubborn to work on it), but she can swim and pick things up off the bottom of the pool. I found a book about it at the library and followed some of the techniques. It was called Water fun : swimming instruction and water games for the whole family by Maryalice Fairbank Miner.
  22. If you go get a blood test, make sure you get a quantitative one (numbers) instead of a qualitative (yes/no) one. The qualitative tests are sometimes not any more sensitive than an HPT, and the lab usually won't tell you what level they are measuring at.
  23. I tried to report a post, and there was some sort of error at the top of the page after I sent the report. Just wanted to let you know in case the reports can't get through.
  24. I usually look for at least 50% off the amazon.com price to make it worth the risk and trouble.
