  1. We will be schooling from 8AM to 3PM. I think last year when my oldest was in 7th grade she was doing about 5 hours a day but our days varied.
  2. I used BFAIR with when my children were 2 and 3. They had BFAIR and FAIR at our local library. Big sister was in K for two hours a day and during that time we did 'school'.
  3. My husband got me the Nike+ and I walk a lot. Someday I will run but right now lots of walking. I also go to our base gym and like the elliptical over the treadmill. We plan to buy a nicer elliptical after we buy a house. We had one before but it was a WalMart special that we gave away when we moved overseas What is working for me is the counting of calories and keeping all meals under 500 calories and limiting my yummy treats like ice cream on Sundays and having my cheat meal either at breakfast or lunch. I also keep track of what I eat and activities. I am not loosing as fast as I want to but I am slowly making progress. Instead of loosing my 50 pounds in three months, I am going to six months.
  4. Wow four months later and I still plan on doing the same stuff with only the level of Sonlight being different. We are going to use Sonlight 100 for history and I found the logic books I bought a long time ago and lost but found when I was packing up our stuff.
  5. It was mostly the Girl Scouts. My son's leaders were wonderful but the house commute was difficult. I am just happy to be back in the states with more options.
  6. If I click on the upper left square (toggle off) I can make paragraphs but then cannot use any of the features like changing the color of my typing or size or add a picture, if I wanted to.
  7. Lots has happen since I have left this post and most of it hasn't been good. Long story short - we are no longer with overseas scouts and unless things change my children will not be in scouts. Most has to do with adults acting like the situation was in high school and the other being lied to. We left on bad terms which the kids no nothing about, thank goodness. Right now everyone is on their own and we will see what happens this fall. We will be in a new town and new council. Trying to keep positive for my children. After my son earned his patch and arrows he's ready to move onto the next level and wished not to do any more work, fine with me. As for my girls they still have another year left in their levels and have worked on some of their patches over the past two months with their grandparents. My girls are also finishing up their second journeys. While completing the journeys are more enjoyable with a troop they are doable without one.
  8. Mine stress has more to do with age difference than number of children. I only have three but the oldest is five years older than the youngest and it's hard to do things. Usually it's too old for the youngers or too young for the oldest. Another issue I had at our last duty station was that I had a son. I was excluded from going on events with my girls because of my son. Girls were allowed but not my son and I was asked more than once to find a sitter for him because I had to go too. Those times we all just stayed home.
  9. Not sure what is wrong but I have no problems anywhere else but here for making paragraphs. For some reason when I hit return I can go down a line. anyone have an idea why? makes me a little grrr that when I type something out and want to hit Return I cannot. thanks
  10. Day 1 I would do a test, practice the missed words along with the workbook pages and then test again at Day 5. I started doing this because my son was using RS3 and most of the words were easy for him. I don't remember the instructions saying to quiz/test twice a week.
  11. Already on there. I am sure I have 'spoken' to you and possibly other ladies from here if they are in the Norfolk area which is our starting place. Thanks
  12. I have read most of my daughter's books, she's 13. Most recent book we bought her was a James Patterson book. My husband loves his books and was excited to find that he wrote some for a younger audience. I didn't pre-read this book and let my husband go ahead and send it to her. My daughter didn't like it. I wish I remembered the name of the book but I don't have it with me since we are both in different states right now. I have another book called Santa Clawed by Rita Mae Brown. Never heard of her but my daughter and I like cats and mystery books.
  13. Well after reading the replies with husband behind me, we have decided that NC is not going to happen. We will stick to the VA side. Next will to find a house that isn't crazy high in price that has a decent yard for everyone to play in both children and fur babies. Thanks everyone for the replies.
  14. The properties we are looking at are pretty much on the state line of VA which is why we are thinking of NC. I just know nothing of NC.
  15. Okay so this post could even go under a different forum but Homeschooling is on top of the list of what's included where we move. My husband is going to be working in Norfolk, Virginia and we have people ask if we consider living in North Carolina since we were looking at the outskirts of Suffolk/Chesapeake, Virginia. We are looking a large patch of land with a house. I have read Virginia rules and am part of a Virginia homeschooling email group. Before that last duty station we were to move to Virginia but we got sent to a different base but now it's for sure Virginia. What we are not for sure is where to live. So please any North Carolina families on here want to tell me why it be worth the 45 minute (another 30 for tunnel traffic) to drive from NC to Norfolk base? Links would be helpful too. Thanks ladies.
  16. I don't have a best or favorite history because what I like is different from my husband and we are different from our oldest and then the others really don't care and just want history done for the day so they can play. What has worked for us so far (I have gone up to 7th grade now) is Heart of Dakota's Beyond/Bigger/Preparing (grades 2-4) followed by SOTW (grades 5-6) and now Sonlight (grades 7 and 8th).
  17. I am having my first one done real soon. I am having discomfort but wasn't given anything for it. Unfortatally I will have the work done in state A and have it finished up in state B. Yippee skippee for the military spouse who just happens to traveling all over the US this wonderful issue on hand. Happy you have the meds to help make you feel better until it's taken care of.
  18. The last time I had a fitting was at Victoria Secrets. I like their stuff and you can get nice things there. I don't think they should cater to younger girls but they are a business and they go where the money is.
  19. two of my children us TT and I started out having them use a notebook for writing out problems but now they write in their workbooks.
  20. We are currently on break and will start school back up in May with just some english and math and will start full up again after Labor Day. We follow my husband's deployment/leave schedules. We stopped halfway thru our curriculum, we got to about week 16 for my younger ones and 20 for my oldest.
  21. I have heavy canvas totes from LLBeans. They are the discounted ones because there was something wrong with them like the wrong letters or whatever. Anyways all my totes have served us well. The XL tote will carry 3 gallons of milk and we tend to go thru at least that many a week. I have dollar store mesh bags and lightweight bags also dollar store for light stuff like breads and veggies/fruits. I prefer self check out and would love it if the commassaries would set up a place along the check out so we can bag ourselves.Commassary baggers work for tips and most are lousy at bagging so I tend to tell them to leave my stuff.
  22. I have used Rod and Staff English, Spelling and Health. I bought their history and science once but it's wasn't for us. I prefer something different for those subjects.
  23. I never noticed before and after reading this I gave it a try and I cannot just buy one of those cups but I put in six and can buy it. I have used Amazon until just recently.
  24. This is what I am doing this year and next year. My younger ones use HOD and my oldest uses SL. It has worked out quite well.
  25. I looked at the link and WOW. someone went thru a lot of work to do that. Hope you found the requirements.
