  1. We have three Old Town Dirigo XT Kayaks the 106, 120 and 140 all bought from the LL Bean Outlet during Labor Day end of season sale. They were used as the LL Bean Kayak School Kayaks before they were sold which made them very reasonable priced. I believe I paid 350 with paddle for my 12' Angler. We've had them for 6 years without a problem.
  2. Thank you for this response. Sorry, I am just now getting back around to responding to this thread. It sounds absolutely reasonable to request a refund and that your preference be honored and the money refunded. Would it be too much to find a different activity for him to do? Even with his twin sister in a different class it is the same sport and the competition with him on the losing end would continue even in separate classes. If he has a gross motor delay have you looked into the special olympics recreational sports? They are wonderful to work with and a friend's daughter is really flourishing in an environment that works with her to be successful and recognizes her success and her personal best. My friend's daughter is on the basketball team (3 on 3 with coaches) and swimming.
  3. I just tested our netflix, we have online streaming only and was able to watch simultaneously on wii, laptop, desktop, phone and iPad without a problem.
  4. It is not an easy decision to make when you start factoring all of the variables into the final outcome. I would go strictly based on the age cut off date for your state. That way when it comes to activities etc they are in their age cohort. Max will by 5 on the cut off date - Kindergarten Dom will be 4 on the cut off date - Pre-K
  5. What are your reservations about him being in the combined boy/girl class? There are obviously reasons that you are requesting all boys or no class at all. We are just starting at a gym and there was never any pressure regarding what class, what time or payment. They don't have a trial option and are great with the kids and teaching the sport properly.
  6. As a hard of hearing adult who was diagnosed with my hearing loss at age 4 I put absolutely zero trust or belief in any hearing screening done by anyone other than an audiologist. I absolutely would not panic or even be concerned at this point in time. I would read up on hearing loss and how it is treated so that you have an idea of questions you want to ask the audiologist. And an idea of if she has a hearing loss how you want to address that. I would also look into your state's homeschooling laws regarding the school system providing services for home schooled children.
  7. We have a toddler, a dog and two cats in a small house, we vacuum and sweep several times a day.
  8. How is being a great-grandchild of an Irish citizen (1/8 Irish of an Irish Citizen) to obtain Irish citizenship different than a tribe using a blood quantum of 1/8 native with enrolled relatives (Tribal Nation Citizenship) to be eligible for tribal enrollment?
  9. We had horrible sleep in crib issues with our daughter (would scream for hours even after we brought her to our room). We used the no cry sleep solution for toddlers. Set up a nightly routine that was relaxing, older kids to read quietly in the living room. It was a rough month until little miss adjusted. Also, it seems counter intuitive but earlier to bed and a better nap time cycle helps at bedtime. Also, what is your little one's sleep clues? Our daughter sticks her fingers in her ears when she is tired. That is when we know she is ready for bed.
  10. I am going to answer this from a different perspective. I am non-native who lived and worked on the largest reservation in North America. Enrolling as a member of the tribe in my opinion is not a matter of benefits but a matter of maintaining cultural heritage something that is dwindling away. Those of Irish decent to a certain blood quantum can apply for dual citizenship of the United States and Ireland. This is no different then enrolling in the tribe and declaring Tribal Nation citizenship for yourself and your children. Tribal Nations entered into binding contracts with the United States Federal Government (treaties) that obligated the Federal Government to provide certain goods and services (healthcare and education primarily) in exchange tribal populations moved onto reservations giving the land they have lived on to the Government to open for settlement and westward expansion of a young nation. Healthcare, Education and Annuities for tribal decedents is not a benefit or privilege, it is a treaty right.
  11. My county thankfully is starting a bicycle improvement plan and one of the improvements is alternate access to the 22 mile greenway trail. Which then would eliminate my having to drive half a mile to then ride my bike 44 miles.
  12. 1 hour is way too much!!! Our DD (17 months old) is in Birth to Three receiving OT services for atypical oral motor skills. We spend 5 minutes a day doing a parent directed activity. The rest of the time in child led with minor modifications, for example she was feeding herself with a spoon. We held the spoon so she had to use her tongue to get the maccaroni and cheese off. She wants a snack we feed her on her right side so she has to use her tongue. We make funny faces using our tongues and hope she mimics us. Instead of looking at two - 1 hour sessions of therapy. I would look into various activities frequently.
  13. FWIW: I *Have* to drive in order to ride my bike and I am a road biker. From my home to a nice trail to ride is accessible only from the Interstate. So yes from my house I have to drive half a mile up an on ramp to the park and ride where I can then unload my bike and ride the rail. If I do not drive to the trailhead then I would be riding on an interstate with is against the law.
  14. As one who has the high end bike, the high tech helmet and clothing those choices are all made for my safety and goals. And YES I am annoying because I know my rights as a cyclist and will not hesitate to use them. That includes calling our local non emergency number with car make, model and license plate number for any vehicles that do not adhere to the rules of the road regarding cyclists. Our police have asked for members of the cycling clubs to do this and they will show up at the vehicle owners home to provide education on sharing the road.
  15. Lots of good prayers going your way. I was devastated with my pregnancy I was miserable sick and went to the ED on Sunday, was told I was not pregnant. On Wednesday I tested at home and had a very faint line like that also at 10 dpo. Went to the clinic my quant was 25 (the minimum amount to get a result on some home pregnancy test). Next quant was 54 again very low because it was so early. The 54 triggered a result on the electronic pregnancy tests. Then the last one was over 1,000. They wanted me to keep going until the quant was over 1,000. Then two weeks later I was scheduled for an ultrasound to check on implantation location and heartbeat.
  16. I also would love a preschool sub forum. I think a huge question to ask of posters in the pre school area would be their plan for the school years in a non judgmental way but also a way to gage the optics of the poster. I have a 16 month old, she does not talk, but does sort by color and size her veggies at dinner and eat them in size and color order. She loves to have stories read to her and play. Our school years plan is homeschool. We are also looking for a program that exceeds our state curriculum which includes 4 year old pre school standards. So while many and we agree say focus on the play and discovery based learning the state if we wish to follow mandates certain skills. Our state common core enhanced standards state in real general terms that the child will write all letters with minimal assistance, spell common words, recall details of various readings and count to 10 with an understanding of basic math up to 10.
  17. We use Plano tackle boxes with the removeable inner compartments for storing all of our mindstorm and technic sets. http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/fishing-products/
  18. YES! Please let him combine his technic and mindstorm pieces. Our Lego League team actually seeks out and purchases technic kits just for the pieces we need to build bigger better robots and attatchments. Search on YouTube for Lego League robots and see what the robots look like that might help you feel a little better with what he is trying to accomplish by combining the two.
  19. Anyone including daycare providers and babysitters can refer a child for evaluation. It sounds like if you are watching her for 11 hours a day her mom has not had the opportunity to be home when they schedule an evaluation. It sounds like she needs an evaluation ASAP. Infants and Toddlers (Birth to 3) will come to the house after 3 the designated pre-k programs in the public school will conduct the evaluation. The earlier this is looked into the better chances to make improvements rather than allowing this to continue until she is school aged.
  20. I had PUPPS with my pregnancy that lasted until 2 months after delivery. I was not a happy camper. Ask your OB or request a Dermatology appointment. The only thing that helped was a cortizone cream, steroid injections, and a tea tree oil wash to at least bring the itching down to a annoying level. Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPS) is a rash that affects approximately one out of every two hundred pregnancies. It is the most common of all pregnancy related skin rashes and is most commonly compared to hives. It comes on suddenly and can be extremely itchy. PUPPS starts in the stomach region but can spread to the extremities. Thankfully, PUPPS has never been found to have any lasting effects to the mother or her unborn child. The worst thing about this disease is that it is more of nuisance than anything else. It is ugly, itchy, and uncomfortable.
  21. In our home we have very limited screen time. The first thing that does need to happen in order for the screen time decrease to work in our experience is there needs to be none. After two weeks of no screen time the kids had found other things to keep themselves busy that when there was screen time again they weren't interested. Where are the screens in your home? Their location and ease of access we found has a direct connection to if they are asking for screen time or not. Our main living area is one level kids rooms, our room, living room and kitchen. The only TV is in our bedroom. The second is down in the basement.
  22. Is there a homeschooling 101 that explains the spine and core concepts for building a curriculum? I've been reading on the boards that some are using history as a spine, other literature?
  23. Yes, there are areas outside that are considered "under cover" which are determined by the command of the base where they are located and are signified by a small sign stating covered - no salute. These are an exception rather than the rule. It is also probably a safe bet that weddings are not held in these areas.
  24. I am very confused by this posting. If the wedding is today why is the protocol of his cover just coming up now? Someone needs to listen to the groom. There is protocol that can not be broken and can have severe consequences for him if they are. While in uniform and not under cover all members must be covered. The uniformed service cap is referred to as a cover. In simple terms if I look up and see the sky then I must have my cover on referred to as being covered. If I look up and there is no sky, inside a building, parking garage, etc then I do not need to have my cover on. In this situation if an outdoor wedding and his cover being off are an issue then a gazebo or other structure should have been used for the ceremony rather than just being outdoors. My husband and I have been married for 4 years, I have been in the uniformed service for 6. He is amazing and has listened and learned protocol, he can prepare my uniform for me, knows what spare pieces I keep in our bedroom closet and makes sure that when I am on travel spares of everything make it into my suitcase. He has even assisted me while accompanying me on official travel with preparing a stage at a conference with all of the high ranking flag officers flags as well as the usual American, State, Department flags. He does all of this quietly from the background. Without him I would not be able to accomplish half of what I do. I hate to sound so negative but as the previous poster stated sorry honey but you gotta leave thinking your opinion counts at the alter too. Marriage into the uniformed services is an adjustment that goes a lot easier when the spouse or soon to be spouse recognizes there are things you just can not control or change. The big three are: 1) uniform protocol 2) orders (or in many cases the lack of orders) 3) demands of the uniform (I am on call 24 hrs a day/7 days a week) I would highly recommend that the new bride be gifted the book "When Duty Calls" by Carol Vandesteeg. This book addresses numbers 2 and 3 of the big three list. Preparing for the separations that go along with being married to a uniformed service spouse.
